I think the misconception that men are tougher comes from the aspect that men take more risks.

We're stupider. Ergo, we get hurt more.

Women are smarter, they get hurt less.

I suspect that if men took the same level of risks as women, we would all live in beautifully interior decorated caves.

If women have a higher tolerance to pain than men, why then are doctor's offices full of women?

Their internal biological makeup is more complicated than a mans with possibly more to go wrong.

That's not it, because that would result in shorter lifespans than men. They just go to the doctor more, because they aren't busy acting tough.

I bled for a year once, I've removed hundreds of surgical staples from my own body, I've stitched my own wounds, I've even removed a German Shephard from my hindquarters, but I don't have anywhere near the pain tolerance of my wife, guaranteed. And I'm not talking about child birth or cramps, I'm talking about daily activities.

How about some of the men here try holding a baby carrier with a 15 lb kid in it, and a purse on the other shoulder, and just stand statically for some period of time. I guarantee, even though I weigh almost 3 times what my wife weighs, and even though I lift weights, and run, and practice martial arts, I cannot hold the baby carrier as long as she can. I can't even bounce back and forth on my feet making a baby sleep as long as she can, because my feet hurt, my arms are on fire, my lower back cramps up. She feels those same pains, but she ignores them and bounces the baby for hours, when I can barely do it for minutes.

Women feel pain, and they know when to see a doctor, and when to ignore it. Men act tough. That is the only part of the study I agree with, but if it comes down to hanging onto a cliffside to save your own life, the women will all outlast the men. If it comes to carrying your baby, purse, groceries, keys, uphill, with the cold wind in your face, the women just do it, while the men complain about it and look for a closer parking space!

Women endure.

Men act tough, women ARE tough!

I am a woman, and know exactly what you mean. Thanks for this. I gave birth to 4 children, and that includes one set of twins. I separated from my husband before my twins could even walk. Held down a full time job, had walking pneumonia at one time, and still worked. I used to walk around with a 15lb baby strapped to the front and the back in the grocery store!

This thread is silly to me, to say the least. I am sure all people, men and women are capable of dealing with pain on an everyday basis. It shouldn't be a contest.

It's all in how you deal with it at the time. It's mind over matter really.

By the way, I gave birth to all my kids without any drugs at all. I did self hypnosis, and took lamaze classes.

And your indigestion complaints are still pissing off your wife.
While she cooks that boar.

Maybe they have longer lifespans because they aren't stressing over who is bigger, toughest and can take the most pain?

Hey, so you were typing this from your toilet, or did you wear depends to catch that stone? From what I understand eating bacon on the toilet while using one hand to shoot at wild bore can be quite dangerous? Haven't you read the statistics proving this?

Tell him Sissel.

He should have just saved time and health issues by throwing the package of bacon right into the toilet.

What am I saying?!?

So for 50 years you tested people tolerance to pain? Because life experience does not equal research, unless your doing research during your life.

I suffer from cluster headaches, aka the suicide headache, which is more painful that childbirth according to women sufferers who have also given birth. Cluster headaches are more common in men. Luckily, for my sanity, they don't last more than an hour.

Most men are big babies themselves when it comes to pain. They
get a little scratch and they feel they need a king kong size bandaid.

Or they bleed out because they won't accept medical attention.

*laughs* Total BS

A friend of the family has run a tattoo chain for over 30 years.

Men will get pale, moan, and pass out getting a tattoo. They see it all the time.

They have never seen a woman pass out.
