Oh my god, is this even feasible? Can that be verified through other agencies?

20 meters, I can't even imagine

Suddenly this is looking worse than I thought, at least for people near the epicenter.

I think it`s possible because of the topography of the place, not sure although.

Here in Japan in Hokkaido (1993) an 7.7 caused a 32m tsunami.

Look at the aftershocks! They are following the fault (just to the left of it)... BAD sign. Hope this thing doesn't rip like the Sumatra–Andaman event.

Wonder if those smaller red 'quakes' could in fact be rock slides under the ocean and are false positives?

You may be on target with the quake line. see below

link

She said the earthquake occurred along a "fairly long" fault - "a plate 200 kilometers long" in a subduction zone, where one plate slips underneath another. Such quakes lift the sea floor and tend to cause tsunamis, she said.

Is the tsunami warnings just pre-caution or have people seen them for 100% certainty.

from globe & mail report

Gary Coons, the MLA for North Coast, said residents in Sandspit reported a large swell of more than two metres about 90 minutes after the quake. “I don’t know if there was any damage – nobody is down at the docks right now, they have gone to higher ground

"It was a pretty wild earthquake. It lasted for five minutes. My dishes are pretty much all destroyed," she said. "It started rumbling like a big huge machine trying to come through the back of my wall."

I'm watching the news right now, and no injuries have been reported yet from Haida Gwaii, so thankful for that.

Had very uneasy feelings tonight. /restless uneasy, frequently watching the USGS earthquake report. Ever since I heard that ladies prediction I've had a bad feeling. One disaster looming on the East coast and one potentially catastrophic event on the West.

Take care and stay alert. I don't think this is over.

Remember ATS members....The first waves are usually the smallest.

They can come in 4 or 5 different waves....Be careful up there!!

Just curious, but is it at all common that another earthquake could happen on an even larger scale after this one. Like is there ever a large quake like this that is a precursor to an even larger one
?

I'm on the mainland (just outside of Vancouver) and we are keeping alert.

Does anyone know what the timeline was for the earthquakes in Japan to when the tsunami hit?

Just checking in from the NW corner of Washington State. We did NOT feel it here...located about 30 miles south of the Canadian border. (500 miles from epicenter)

I am getting a bad feeling about this one, based on the epicenter of the 7.7 and the location/depth of the after-shocks. Word is, this is looking like a thrust vs strike-slip. Let's pray this isn't a precursor.
