My family's triple demonic possession after praying for a dead loved one. Help me find answers

That's not very nice.. His family is Christian and faithfully so why are you responding this way.. If demonic entities attempt to control members of one's family it means that the level of faith and strength of that faith is strong and that much more intimidating; If demons are attacking members of your family it's because your family has a particularly strong relationship with God and Christ, and the demons clearly ENVY that relationship; This experience should only make you and your family's faith that much stronger, so don't listen to this guy, and remember that the Catholic faith is the first faith to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ; All denominations created thereafter are beautiful as well,

Why can't a Christian be possessed?

Also...if a Priest has a close relationship with Jesus and truly is a man of God; he can be of great assistance.

Your uncle praying 'negatively' probably had a whole lot to do with things. It was like an invitation was issued. Also, having had ecstatic experiences myself growing up (Pentecostal), I've felt simultaneously elated in a 'sea of love' type feeling, but also not in control of myself when 'speaking in tongues'. I couldn't stop things. It is very easy for unsuspecting people to be 'demonized' by spirits in those types of circumstances.

Are you still affiliated with the Pentecostal faith?

If that were to be, then I would need to find an explanation for the demonic voices they both had.

I respect your opinion about there not being a god, or afterlife, but that is not what I am here to discuss. This very well may have had nothing to do with god, afterlife, or any religion. Perhaps this was indeed schizophrenia... Or maybe some inter dimensional beings messing around. Maybe my whole family thought it would be funny to play a joke on me. Hmm. Maybe. I will entertain and consider all explanations. I'm NOT here saying "OMG this happened, therefore it is proof that God exists" nope, I just want possible explanations and chance to share my experience. I know some really knowledgeable people are here on ATS might be able to offer their version or explanation. Whatever it might have been.

Unfortunately this is nothing like ergot poisoning so that's out. That tends to lead to death of the person, or at least a part of them. Since you've made no mention of any gangrene or subsequent deaths, let's call that a no-go.

Likewise for "stress induced schizophrenia". What is that now? The kind that temporarily affects family member in turn - but only certain ones - and then disappears without a trace. You can have stress induced relapses, but not stress induced occurrence that slides from one person to the next. Again, that can be struck from the list of possibilities.

Of course, I'm no authority on such things but I have read a great deal about these two things in particular for very personal reasons.

I do hope you find out what happened. Keep us posted.

thank you. what you say here is what many of our family think also happened. Its actually my 14 year old cousin that started it. she seemed somewhat of an odd person since i met when her mother got together with my my uncle Albert.

I do also think some type of exorcism was performed. But i was not sure because no one in the group was a priest they were just very heavily involved in studying the bible and church.

I didnt know this. definitely things i will keep in mind in my quest to find out more info. It does seem now that my cousin Fern was or had been already possessed, maybe she did not even want to be there to begin with? I want to ask her more, but i want to see if other people think that her burning the papers with our names on them and burrying them had anything to do with it so i can know before i ask. For all i know, she probably made all this happen on purpose with that. i dont know about those things.

I want to tell you God and Jesus do exist. I have been to Heaven and talked with Jesus and seen the light of God.
I have also been used in exorcisms. Demons do not like me.
Saying that, I was also born with 3 demons at birth, they are called Generational spirits when a baby is born like that. The Hawaiians use to believe if a baby had a birthmark, they had a Gen. spirit and they used to let the sea have them.
I found out at 18 that my maternal family comes from Romany Gypsies and most of my maternal side were Catholics. I see no problem with Catholism, only that you need a relationship with Jesus, no religion is needed.

I have been on courses to exorcise demons and I will tell you this, stress lets them out to play. Your family was in a high amount of stress and the brain chemicals were out of balance, even extreme feelings of wellness/joy can bring them out.

I suggest that your family has undiagnosed Generational spirits and you need to go to God or to a knowledgeable person who will find out how they got in. Demons are like lawyers, they are extremely knowledgeable in the legal aspects of possession. Someone in your past let them in, it could even be centuries ago.

Taking the communion actually protected your mum, she should thank God for that. But she must of believed in it, you can't do it like a superstition. This is what the demon hated, they hate all who believe in and love Jesus and want to kill them.

I know this, as the 3 demons were constantly talking in my ears. (many would say 'schizophrenia' but I had been checked for that at 14, with all my family. As my maternal family had a paper written on them by Maudsley Hospital. If I tell you what for someone could use it, to find out my name, so I will not do that. I was found to have only the symptoms of OCD and GTS.)

This is where many christians argue; Christians can be possessed, as in a 'demon is attached to your Electromagnetic field' but if you give your heart to Jesus they can NOT be found in your heart. This is why the heart was weighed in Ancient Egypt, to see if it was light or heavy= what you worship. (I call it possession as they are possessing the body's EM field, like a land deal, they own part of you.)

I think your family's heart is for God and Jesus but because of some demonic legal issue, a few of you have been attached with demons. They are like parasites, do not fear them, as this gives them worship.

This is how I got rid of mine; Many people were sent to me during my teenage years, to pray over me to release me from the prison I had been put in. Then at 26yrs, just after the birth of my first child, I asked God to kick these demons out, whilst I was washing up. I sneezed three times and the internal world suddenly went quiet. The demons had been talking for 26 yrs to me and I had got used to them, like being in a noisy party room. They were obscene but I did learn alot.

This happened easily for me, as I went straight to the source and I had been to many courses, and been actually involved in several exorcisms, some single-handed..

Everyone is different and that is why you will need to contact a knowledgeable priest but make sure they believe Jesus came as the Son of God and rose three days after He died. (As I have heard of some people actually giving the victims demons instead of exorcising them!!!)

I don't believe it had anything to do with the actual Prayers of Novena.
Although I had been taught in Pentecostal church as a teenager not to pray for the dead. But I now think that means not to pray to speak to the dead, as you don't know who you are going to get. (As in Saul and deceased Samuel.)

so much info. thank you. I checked this site, and it says one of the uses for novena prayers is for mourning, which i think is what they were doing. Im sure they were just doing the rosary thing every day plus other smaller prayers. i doubt they were praying directly for my great grandfather, but i will ask for more info.

since we have not had any incidents like this since, should i worry too much or should i just let my uncles and cousin decide what to do with their lives, or if it happens again. i wouldnt know what to tell them other than what you suggest.. which is to seek the help of priests, but i would think they have already done that.

what you say about the birthmark... i have read about that too. coincidentally, my daughter has a pretty large red birthmark on her shoulder. but im not sure about what they say about them.

eta: im sort of limited in asking for help, since this did not happen to me. Asking a priest would be more appropriate for my uncles since it happened to them. they would know how to answer questions about their life that i wouldnt. but i guess i am the only person still wanting to talk about it, interested, and seek more info. maybe because i once doubted the existence of God, and now i believe. Maybe this didnt affect anyone else this much because they believed since the beginning... and greatly.

As in the Days of Noah when the FALLEN ANGELS walked on the earth, this is coming back. People who have a demon attached, will be under their control, this is why your family need to be cleared of demons.

As you are the father of your daughter, you have the option to do this for your daughter, which I would strongly suggest you do, for her sake in the coming time.

Your decision but remember we will be held accountable at Judgement Day on how we looked after His precious children.

I am not trying to fear monger, as I believe fear can lead to suffering, but I have been shown in dreams a small part of what is coming. And I am just trying to warn you.

Thanks for sharing your amazing story, it sounds like it really shook everybody up that night. Just some basic things I can tell right off is it sounds like you have a close family or at least at time of this novena. There are a few things to look at here.. first is the person that was being prayed for, was he possibly tainted by darkness? If not openly he could have been harboring a dark side or have committed some great sin that had never been atoned for and thus it falls upon his family. Also the fact that your family is so close and the leadership of the family being religious is generally an invitation to the darkside.. why do you think there are many priests and "holy men" who succumb to even more depravity than most citizens? It's because of the oath they take and their fervent belief systems, these entities want to test it. Your cousin Fern's slightest doubts about love and good tidings was just the opening this energy needed to manifest. It's not as complicated as hollywood or religion would like to make it - so called demonic activity has to with actions and reactions, openings and closing. All one can do is clean out - beliefs and weighty emotions in the mind, toxins in the body and waste and excess in the environment.

Yes our family is very very close. and Now with all the facebook and skype we are reaching out and getting closer with distant relatives across the country.

We all are open to the possibility that Fern's negative thoughts about the nice comments and feelings by Cari was the trigger. We have discussed it a couple times and we feel like everything you said was the case. Bear in mind, that we have absolutely no experience or knowledge in thinking so, yet we still came to that conclusion. Hearing this from someone else just affirms what we thought, so thank you for that and for taking the time to read it.

As far as anything bad that my great-grandfather did, i would not know. i never even met him. I might be able to dig around for some info, but it would take some work. i will post some updates if i do come across any more info.

Can you tell me more about "cleaning out" and about the toxins in the body or mind?

Interesting thread and story! I don't know too much about these things to be honest, but one idea came up a few times that I had to ask about... What is this whole thing about demons/entities harassing and even possessing those who are more extremely devoted to God more often than others?

1. Is there any specific evidence for this kind of thing (Biblical or historical) and 2. If this is actually true, then why even bother with extreme devotion? I believe in a higher power for sure, but I choose to believe in one that strengthens me from these sort of attacks the closer I get to Him, not the opposite. The agnostic in me says that if this is true, then it is evidence that the whole faith is a (metaphysical?) construction of the mind-- the more powerfully you believe, the more powerful demons become as well as God in your life.

I'm not sure. But I think I should be more clear. My Uncle Albert and her daughter Fern aren't devoted Catholics. I don't remember seeing my uncle Albert at church much at all, much less my cousin Fern. Now that I think about it, neither my Uncle John other than at weddings and when I did my first communion he is my godfather. My uncle Jose, the one that prayed negatively, would be one of the devoted ones in my family.

This was just a guess at why it was so strong and so sudden.. it could have just been Fern's disconcert with the goodwill of the other family members that spurned this on but in my experience there's always more to the story. There's a reason why the majority of recorded possessions happen to adolescent, younger women. As far as digging up something about your great grandfather good luck, it may be impossible if the secret is that dark it's more likely to stay hidden.

In the buddhist tradition they talk a lot about making one's bed each day and sweeping the leaves from the path that leads to your doorstep. Really these are metaphors for the daily task of living right which is tedious, boring and all around difficult. Cleaning out starts with the simplest of things - good diet, regular exercise and giving and kindness toward other humans, particularly those weaker and less fortunate than yourself. Hi, unexplainable things do happen. From my reading on the subject I think that the most likeliest intepretation would be that your cousins behaviour, when she wrote out that spell, is what is likely to have caused this activity. Theres been many accounts of people who have done white or black magic and have been possessed, it is thought that they are both the same thing and even a naive spell such as that you described would suffice. From a psychological point of view, the only explanation would be that your teenage cousins behaviour, screaming etc and saying that the dog was inside her, influenced your family who then intepreted the whole thing within a religious reference. However, as your family are all christians this is quiestionable, as each of your family members would likely to have held on to the view expressed on here, that '"a Christian cant become possessed". Famous exorcists in the church who have written on the subject etc, hold the view that a christian can become possessed, by reasons not of their own doing, for example if witchcraft against them is involved, I also believe that it's thought to be common for many family members to become affected when the one person has initially experienced diabolical activity. You could give a written account of what happened to your family annonymously, to a local priest and get his thoughts on the subject, or another priest if not your local priest, there is often one priest within the diocese who is trained in this matter, it would be useful even I suppose for the research that the church does on the matter. If your family experience further problems, my advise would be to contact your local Bishop directly!
