But.. the US new an attack was coming and didn't do anything. Also, our government has been giving money and weapons to alqeada in the mideast to fight in libya and syria. How can they still openly support financially and militarily the group they are at war against?

This has to be one of the most wonky things I've read on here in awhile! On what grounds does this make sense? I knew the judicial system in this country was all over the place, but this is a whole new level of unbalanced.

Honestly I see this as a new way to spark hatred towards Iran.
Possibly even promote new warfare because of unpaid debts...*ahem.
This is akin to blaming Iraq for 9/11 but the attackers were Saudis.
Or did we not actually fall for that already....[facepalm].

I read a story last night at work..lol.. No I dont remember the link sadly, but it said the reason thAt Iran got hit with the fine was the bad guys who did 9-11 "passed through Iran" on their way to commit the 9-11 crimes.

To me this was pretty thin gruel for such a heavy fine.. What I read, only reason stated was they passed through Iran to do the crimes.

Some guys sneak through the border, OR paid somebody off at the airport gates to let them through..ok.... maybe find out who broke the law at the airport and prosecute them according to Iranian law..??

And someone mentioned, so Saudi Arabia gets a free pass??? Hmm..lol.. Man, logic is out the window on some of our news these days, or decisions made by "judges"?? "Some" of these judges are beginning to remind of those Nazi German judges you see in the old B&W documentaries eh?

A shame something MORE SOLID than that couldnt be pinned for such a heavy fine. More BS, more war propaganda in my opinion.. at least in Irans case.

Your own source states why Iran was named -

Iran was blamed by the US court partly because some of the hijackers passed through the country on their way to carrying out the attacks.

While Iran irritates the crap out of me I dont see how the hijackers going through Iran makes Iran complicit in any manner. If so then it means we would need to hold European countries, as well as Canada in addition to the US, responsible since they passed through those coutnries as well.

The ONLY thing I could see that would justify it is if Iran new who they were and what they were planning and failed to stop it (again an argument that can be made against the US government as well as European countries as well).


As for the award if I am reading it right its not a criminal case, but a civil case. Civil law in the US is different than our criminal law. The standards of evidence are lower, preponderence of the evidence as opposed to beyond a reasonable doubt, and if by jury it only requires 9 out of 12 jurors (in general, there are some exceptions - like personal injury) instead of a unanimous jury (12 of 12 in criminal trials).

Facts straight? Nope. John McCain, is that you? It does make sense though...the US are very quick to blame other countries while doing the same thing elsewhere.

Perhaps Iran could appeal this decision and in the process of that appeal
cause a re-opening of the official 911 investigation.
