During Decisive Endeavor, my first deployment, 4 years prior to the Cole attack, the ship I was on during that operation (USS Saipan) was nearly hit by the exact same style of attack while in port in Turkey. Thankfully, while we were tasting beer in town, Turkish troops destroyed the small boat and a national incident was averted. All of it was swept under the rug by Clinton for the same reason Obama is sweeping stuff under the rug; neither wants to live up to their failed policies.

Things have been escalating in the ME since Carter and every POTUS since Reagan has made it worse.

citing the Military Commissions Act passed by Congress. Pohl's denial left the Obama Administration with a choice: continue the prosecution of Abd Al-Nashiri, alleged mastermind of the Cole bombing, or drop the charges against him. President Obama has decided to drop the charges.

He was an anti-war candidate. Upon election, he inherited two wars.

And started 4 more…..

Where did all the airstrikes happen the past 4 years?? Oh, that’s right: Libya, Yemen, Pakistan and Somalia.

Strategically, to immediately pull out of a region without preprations is unwise. Have you read any Sun Tsu? (suntzusaid.com...) If the US immediately (and "immediate" would take months when there are thousands and thousands of troops involved) pulled-out, casualties would have been enormous. You can't change OVERNIGHT a situation that took YEARS to create. So, President Obama is a hypocrite because he wanted to save the lives of US military in a proper pull-out of Iraq? Again, he succeeded in the proper pull-out, saved lives and receives no credit from threads like these.

Proper pullout??

It’s only proper to pull out after the objectives are met and that hasn’t happened, has it? Who the HELL is firing at us if the war is won?

In fact, it's hypocritical criticsm. It is hard to be objective when you've already made up your mind that you don't like the guy and will criticize *everything.*

Obama owns all of it…..it was on his watch and at his command. Stop drinking the Kool Aid, bro!

He did not "start" four wars. He applied calculated responses to situations in the world. He did not start wars in Libya, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia. Do you realize that al-Qaida was in those countries? And those were precision operations, not "wars." You are painting broad strokes and over-simplifying the reality of conducting a war on terrorism (Global War on Terrorism ring a bell?). Happens to be that terrorists aren't confined to one country or region. See, if he had NOT acted during Libya, people would be throwing their arms up in the air saying he didn't do enough. If he hadn't taken out Bin Laden, people would be saying that he hadn't conducted a proper war on terrorism. He acts, it's too much. He doesn't act, it's not enough.

Objectives being met? WHO, exactly, set the objectives? What objectives are you talking about? Was Saddam Hussein not taken out of power? Was the government of Iraq not left to govern itself as it sees fit, free of a dictator? And who are you talking about that is shooting at us? They sort of can't shoot at US troops in Iraq, because there sorta aren't any US troops of note in Iraq. That sorta happened last Dec/Jan-ish, right? In that sense, yeah, it was a proper pull-out.

You said it: he owns it. He got our military the heck out of Iraq in a quick, safe way. No more people of ours dying there because Obama pulled them the heck outta there. He owns it. Yep. He made the call to take out Bin Laden. I didn't say he took all the credit nor did I say that he did it himself. He made the call as Commander in Chief and his military experts conducted the successful op. He owns it; he did it. Unlike his predecessor, he focused more on the Global War on Terror instead of personal vindettas in Iraq.
