According to this new poll, I am shocked actually,

Not surprisingly, when broken down by party, Democrats place the greatest trust in the mainstream media with 58 percent feeling a-okay with their news coverage, but only 26 percent of Republicans do. What is interesting, though, is that after independents’ trust in the media fell below the 50-percent mark in 2004, it’s only continued on a downward trajectory, and only 31 of independents today are feeling good about about the media painting a fair, accurate, and complete picture of the current political scene.

What has me really raising my eyebrow (the left one, to be specific), however, is how people replied to the question of whether or not they’re paying particularly close to this presidential-election news cycle.

48 percent of Republicans are following presidential politics closely, but only 39 percent of Democrats

Well that explains a lot.

I suppose you're not familiar with the GOP's cable news channel FoxNews

I believe that intelligent people see these news outlets for what they are:

-MSNBC is blatantly liberal

-FoxNews is blatantly conservative

-CNN is just sensationalism. They'll say what they need for ratings.

I'm not surprised at all. The media is mostly liberal, and you can always tell a liberal and their bigotry against conservatives when they rally against FOX News. You see, liberals believe that only their voices should be heard, that's why they whine about Fox news all the time, because it gives a voice to other opinions and beliefs that aren't liberal.

IMHO.

Isn't this self-evident?
Republicans much prefer FoxNews, because all other news is against them, so they need to create their own?

So, yes, in comparison, it's quite okay to watch.. well, "normal news" for the rest.

I'm glad you included that all that BS was your "humble opinion."

Odd isn't it for people that preach tolerance and acceptance?

Correct ... I'm predominately democrat and I don't trust mainstream media automatically.. if a story is meaningful to me I will research and find multiple sources to verify the information.. or go straight to the source to find out whenever possible..

However..

I don't question everything I read.. I think generally speaking you can expect them to be mostly accurate .. you just have to take into consideration which way that particular news source leans and then expect that it's exaggerated in that way in some fashion....

My conservative friends tend to bash every news source out there as "lamestream" media but then they praise the gospel of fox .. I have to gently remind them that fox is one of the biggest "mainstream" media sources on the planet.. they seem to not think of fox as mainstream.. perhaps they think of it as their media messiah instead?

The record distrust in the media, based on a survey conducted Sept. 6-9, 2012, also means that negativity toward the media is at an all-time high for a presidential election year. This reflects the continuation of a pattern in which negativity increases every election year compared with the year prior. The current gap between negative and positive views -- 20 percentage points -- is by far the highest Gallup has recorded since it began regularly asking the question in the 1990s. Trust in the media was much higher, and more positive than negative, in the years prior to 2004 -- as high as 72% when Gallup asked this question three times in the 1970s.

This year's decline in media trust is driven by independents and Republicans. The 31% and 26%, respectively, who express a great deal or fair amount of trust are record lows and are down significantly from last year. Republicans' level of trust this year is similar to what they expressed in the fall of 2008, implying that they are especially critical of election coverage.

Independents are sharply more negative compared with 2008, suggesting the group that is most closely divided between President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney is quite dissatisfied with its ability to get fair and accurate news coverage of this election.

More broadly, Republicans continue to express the least trust in the media, while Democrats express the most. Independents' trust fell below the majority level in 2004 and has continued to steadily decline.

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me because the same exact thing happens in the reverse.. it's not a syptom of liberal bias, it's a symptom of political bias in general.. towing the lines, regardless of party affiliation.. they BOTH do what you described.. my friend, who's a huge fan of Fox .. will bash every other news outlet out there without even reading it or listening to it .. he won't fact check anything.. if O'Reilly or Hannity said it .. it must be true.. lets not bother to verify anything.. do not question the master =) .. He refers to every other outlet as mainstream media but doesn't realize Fox is one of the biggest mainstream outlets in the world, certainly the country..

I watch Fox.. but I don't isolate myself to Fox.. I watch it for the entertainment value and because it gives me a solid view into the other side of the aisle .. I think it's healthy to expose yourself to both because ultimately they tend to both be leaning too far from the center to be 100% accurate.

I think anyone who isolates themselves to just fox.. or just msnbc for example.. are ill informed at best..

As I mentioned, I don't take anything any outlet says as fact.. they are all operating with some kind of agenda, usually politically motivated.. ( almost always ) .. so it's important to have fact checking skills..

You're posting this on a forum of far left wingers who have no problems with lying, biased media as long as it's working for them. They won't care about this, nor anything else you can produce to show our MSM has become nothing more than the propaganda arm of the Democrat party.

They will however rage over Fox. In their minds, the only bias and spin that can be allowed is THEIR lies and spin.

Relying on the MSM for news is like subscribing to a porn site.

There is better stuff all over the place for free.

There is this dinosaur segment of the population who still reads a morning paper and still watches the major network nightly news with generic anchor and that's their news.

Too little, too late, too biased.

I'd also like to point out that Fox employees many liberals who appear on many of their shows. Now look at every single other outlet. It's all liberals, all the time. The networks that did have right leaning people on their shows, fired them all.

I don't understand how anyone can take a group of people and assign attributes to them en mass with a straight face..

It's like saying something as silly as "all fat people love bacon" ... I was once fat ( 300lbs, now 180 ), I hated bacon...
I tend to lend liberal and I am a huge fan of truth.. so I take offense at that kind of rhetoric.

These days I'm more centrist in my beliefs.. and actually would have voted republican until my choice dropped out.

Ps. There are quite a few more conservatives here than you think...

I've always believed that their preaching of tolerance is a sham, and really means that "you have to tolerate me but I don't have to tolerate you" nonsense.

Tolerance is tolerance. You don't get to pick and choose.

But I don't want to derail this thread.

Except it really doesn't.

The majority of all media is liberal. Here's some articles for you to consider:

www.cbsnews.com...

en.wikipedia.org...

newsroom.ucla.edu...

This is just a small sampling of the information to show that the media really and truly does have a liberal bias to them.

I want to know why the media is so in the tank for Obama, there is a real conspiracy here, IMHO.
