AN armed mob protesting over a film they say offends Islam has attacked the US consulate in Benghazi, set fire to the building and killed one American, witnesses say. The attack comes on the same day as a similar group of hardliners waving black banners attacked the US embassy in Cairo and tore down the US flag, but it was not immediately clear if the two incidents were co-ordinated.

The Cairo protest was sparked by outrage over a video being promoted by an extreme anti-Muslim Egyptian Christian campaigner in the US, clips of which are available on the social website YouTube and dubbed in Egyptian Arabic. The video depicts Mohammed as a fraud, showing him having sex and calling for massacres.

"Demonstrators attacked the US consulate in Benghazi. They fired shots in the air before entering the building," Libya's deputy interior minister, Wanis al-Sharif Sharif, who is in charge of the country's eastern region, told AFP. "Dozens of demonstrators attacked the consulate and set fire to it," said a Benghazi resident, who only gave his name as Omar, adding that he had seen the flames and heard shots in the vicinity.

This is serious.

The US is getting smashed in the Middle East. The 'rebels' in Iraq and Afghanistan are only getting stronger in the last few months. Hilary Clinton cant visit Egypt without people throwing shoes at her car and chanting "monica".

The media does not tell the truth. The US is hated. The US are losing.

The 'protests' on US Embassies have more to do with the peoples hatred for the US than some offensive film.

It didn't help, that our Commander and Chief's, first and only comment regarding the event, was to apologize for not being sensitive enough towards Muslims.....

I'm sickened by what has happened in both Egypt and Libya. Now, the murder of an American Consulate at our Embassy in Libya, can be glossed over by Obama's lame, and quite frankly, irresponsible apology to the Muslim Brotherhood. Hope he has some better words to offer to the Family of our slain American Consulate.

It would help if he apologized for not ending the wars and then actually did end the wars.

It would help if Americans went back to America.

And America should get used to bowing down to China and the rest of the world.

Get used to it you arrogant people.

The US does not rule the world anymore.

The US needs to pull its head in and stop acting so high and mighty.

Get used to bowing down. Get used to saying sorry.

Israeli-American behind Cairo protest film: report AFP September 12, 2012 The US Consulate in Benghazi is seen in flames during a protest by an armed group said to have been protesting a film being produced in the United States September 11, 2012. An American staff member of the US consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi has died following fierce clashes at the compound, Libyan security sources said on Wednesday. Armed gunmen attacked the compound on Tuesday evening, clashing with Libyan security forces before the latter withdrew as they came under heavy fire. Reuters Email the story Print the story RSS feed US: A film at the center of anti-US protests in the Middle East which killed a diplomat was made by an Israeli-American who describes Islam as a "cancer," the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday. The movie, "Innocence of Muslims," was directed and produced by Sam Bacile, a 52-year-old real-estate developer from southern California who says Islam is a hateful religion. "Islam is a cancer," Bacile told the newspaper of his crudely-produced film, which depicts the Prophet Mohammed variously sleeping with women, talking about killing children and referring to a donkey as "the first Muslim animal." He was speaking after protesters tore down the US flag at America's Cairo embassy in protest at the film, which earlier was said to have been produced by expatriate members of Egypt's Christian minority resident in the United States. An armed mob also attacked the US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi and set fire to the building, killing one American. Bacile told the Journal he was responsible for the film -- an excerpt of which has been viewable online since July -- saying he had raised $5 million to make it from about 100 Jewish donors, who he declined to identify.

If the US was not in the middle east then nobody would protest this stuff. The US needs to leave the world alone. We dont like your government any more than you do. Less actually.

I'm equally outraged and would add that Obama and Clinton are in one hell of a pickle here. They both came out early and often in support of the revolution in Egypt and I distinctly recall it being revealed after the first success with Mubarak's removal that a major part of the funding came from a Google employee with more money and time than sense to not play International politics.

Libya? err... Kinda bad there too huh? Libya wouldn't have rioters to kill Americans if Obama hadn't been hand in glove to the UK and EU in taking Gadaffi out and removing the legal Government that no one questioned before 2011 (or while the Europeans and English were peddling Gadaffi weapons for the previous few years). Now what can they say? This is a horrible turn of events? They have to almost trip over their own feet to miss the "OUR" implied in 'turn of events' where Libya is concerned. It would be hilarious....if it hadn't already gotten people killed.

Just wait until they overthrow and replace the Syrian Government...I think Syria will make Egypt and Libya look downright peaceful.

I’m sick of the term “BlowBack”. The reason why though is because it is not the American people but the Government that we elect that plays these games, only to get caught flatfooted.

People need to realize that while the West is not involved in a “Holy” war, these people are.

Unless there are reforms made within the Islamic world, there will eventually be genocide. Which side to be wiped out remains to be seen…but the time is drawing nigh. I think it will be the west due to "Political correctness."

At least that is the way I see things at the moment.

If you think America will bow down to anyone, you are sadly mistaken. Look at history if you want to know the outcome of American provocation. Hiroshima and Nagasaki ring a bell. Just because the current administration is apologetic means nothing, the next one will not tolerate any anti-americanism. BTW, the Egyptian government wants US influence because they continue to accept US aid.

You are sick of it because you know it is the ugly truth.

We bombed those Islamists and Al Qaeda terrorists to power in Libya. Now we have another Sharia state in North Africa.

Because killing innocent civilians as payback has always been the American way!

America is not the world police, stop pretending that you are.

Withdraw your military from around the world, stop creating wars and fix your economy before it’s too late for you to recover.

The world can see that America is out of control and totally financially ruined.

Yep, you got that right.

No argument from me. I just dislike the term as it is overused nowadays.

One step in the right direction to fixing the financial problems in America, would be to completely withdraw all financial aid to all territories outside of the U.S. borders. The United Nations...all of them. Not one more red cent to aid any other country than our own.

I can tell you this, a holy war is coming and soon I think. If Dearborn Michigan is any example of what we can expect to come then this isn't a possibility it's an inevitability. This is from 2009, and it's just getting worse. Keep in mind this could be coming to your neighborhood next.

So you're cheering for this downgrade of the US in general? Interesting.
Well.. I guess if the world collapses, atleast the OP will make it out alive and sane.

edit: who thought this was a good idea anyways? Lol.

Don't know if it's been posted yet, but it now is coming out that the American Ambassador and 3 Consulates were killed in the Libyan Embassy assault. The Libyan security that had been hired to guard the Embassy, gutted all documents in the Embassy, and turned them all over to the crowds storming the place. This is so bad my friends....so very bad....
