Do you understand the stresses of running a country? Do you understand the difficulty of trying to slow down the inevitable crash of a country? Obama has tried, but again, he was sworn in at the wrong time. The USA would still have fallen under RP.

Also, it isn't Obama's fault that RP is out, you can blame Romney and the rest of the crew...

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware I was talking to a former president of the united states, please share your experiences, and which president were you number wise?

Hey all...

I am writing this in regards to the current political race in the USA. I am writing this from an outsider's perspective on your situation and the candidates in general, so please hear me out.

Give him a break? Our mass media gives him a total pass and does everything they can to defend him. All the things they used to savage Bush on, they give Obama a pass on. From Gitmo, to high gas prices and high unemployment. So, you think he should get even more slack than a mass media that's basically his personal propaganda machine?

This forum used to be FULL of Gitmo threads. What happened to them? I remember when Gitmo was "the reason the world hates us so much". It used to be full of threads ranting about the Patriot act and wiretaps. What happened to them? People on ATS used to rage about high gas prices and the deficit. Now those same people are silent. Explain to me what you think happened. It's obvious to me, but I'm interested in how you rationalize it.

How can you watch that and tell me Obama is not being given a total pass?

Im from Australia so this isnt really my thread however i will provide some advice looking from the outside as an observer. The best candidte to vote for is the one who supports, champions and upholds in priority of order,

1. American constitution
2. Rebuilding a healthy sustainable economy with a firm manufacturing base
3. return education system back to no 1. world benchmark.

War monger? Are you kidding me? How many drone strikes has Obama carried out since he's been in office and this includes flying into Pakistan to do this...Remember his doing away with Guitmo? His issue with detaining combatants for idefinate amounts of time? How quickly we forget...Are you saying we had no hand in Libya? Are you saying we had no hand in what amounted to the 99% percent attempting to step up to their Irananian president? How many people were killed in those small demonstations of democracy and we like most every other skirmish have a hand in it...they are called Psyops and while I don't want to go into another war let us not be so naive to think that this guy is a peace loving president...sure we had ground troops come back from the war but our security personnel was ramped up including more private contractors...if you are saying I'll take the lesser of two evils I may agree but they have their agendas and it does not include the middle class..read Obamas book...

Your post really doesn't say much, other than he is just ok. America doesn't need someone that is just ok, we need someone great. If you went to the hospital for an emergency, would you want the doctor that is just ok, or would you want the best doctor they had? We have to stop handing out "participation awards" to people like Obama. He has'nt really accomplished anything in the last four years praiseworthy. He has kept only a handful of his campaign promises. Words don't mean crap without action to back them up.

...but if you actually looked at Obama, his expressions, his body language...he believed in what he was saying...

This is why he is just that bad. He believes his own propaganda. He believes he's actually doing good, doing the right thing. He believes in the Patriot Act, the NDAA, in "the strongest military the world has ever known."

That's what's so scary about him, and why he's not just a threat to the citizens of the U.S., but a thread to every citizen of every nation.

I too support Obama in this election, and consider him to actually be a relatively good president.

But the lesson learned from this election cycle, is that a movement must start among the American people to challenge the two party system and address political financing (elections, lobbyists).

I believe that the USA should vote for Obama. Put up with him just one more time, the world will be better off.

This is just the old "lesser of two evils" theory.
If this theory worked, we'd have less evil with every President, but unfortunately when your choices every 4 years are Satan and Lucifer, there is no greater or lesser - just evil.

The corruption of the establishment is so far gone that people are getting used to settling for the "better choice" rather than the right person for the job. This is subversion in action.

Romney's job is to maintain the illusion that there is actually a competitive race happening.
Obama's job is to be the untouchable black president, damage the free market system and move the country towards more government control.

edit on 7-9-2012 by DeReK DaRkLy because: ...

That makes me want to vote for Obama.

Yes, he isn't perfect.
However, the alternative is scary. What the West turned into under Bush was scary. Romney does not have much of a personality (just like Bush didn't) so he could be possessed - take that literally or the way of lobbyists go.
The West under the neocons (who basically dislike democracy and equality and freedom of religion just like thier fated enemies, Islam fundamentalists) was swinging towards a state not that removed from an Adolf Hitler (he kind of lacked the reported verbal charisma though). We would lie, cheat, torture etc. to promote OUR corporations versus theirs... All morality left at the doorstep, Big Money plus paranoid fanatics win.

The same equation: financial capital unbridled and unfettered plus the military industrial complex can yield fascism of a sort. (In this case, not persecuting Jews.) We did arrive at a sort of "pink fascism" (with the word "pink" not meant as a reference to the left being identified by some with the color Red, but as in pink glasses - illusion glasses.)
The ideology of the new neocons does not matter, we would be up against the Muslims, the Europeans, the Russians, people with brown eyes, the 99% whatever.

I add my perspective that the life of an average American was slightly better until the Reagan-Bush deregulation (which brought in China as the measuring stick of the world.)
So how much better is globalism with China at the helm than the last decades of the Cold War with Brezhniew? For an average American? Yes, you could be scared of atomic bombs which never fell because Brezhniew was too senile to push the buttons. But your cost of living went up and your security down.
Chinese debt is increasing, goods are rolling in every hour.
From an American perspective, wages approximating one dollar per hour and total repression is what you are competing with. I'm telling you: the measuring stick now is China. That is the single state we owe almost all our debt. And that we buy the cheapest products from. So competition will tell me outsource to China.
(I love China but not the neo-maoists - for the same reason I hate neocons.) They are very similar.

Romney would be gearing up the rusty US war machine all too soon.
If we wait until we can enter another world war, already started by others, and if we can enter it on the side of the better crowd... we can win again.
However, if we start our own world war, as Romney Ryan no doubt would, from next March on: we will lose... like Nazi Germany did.
Obama is small cogwheel but he can stop that, temporarily derail that.

Mark my words.

Your post is spot on. Obama inherited a depression from GWB and for the last 2 years had to deal with an extremely obstructionistic GOP in Congress who's sole agenda is to see Obama fail even at the expense of your average US citizen. They have openly come out to say this.

In addition, they have waged a 4 year long smear campaign against him and to the detriment of the democratic party, the dems did not respond in kind so people just start believing in the GOP lies.

I guess the good news is that Romney as a politician cannot hold a candle to Obama. The bad news is that Obama's reputation has taken a major hit in the last four years due to circumstances where he has little control over.

Obama is going to have to hustle really hard to get the votes needed to win this election. I hope people realize how F'ed your average joe would be if Romney won the presidency. The dems will have to go out in force to motivate the masses to vote. They will need many moments like this DNC to get their base out to vote because if not, this is an election that Obama can lose.

Hey all...

I am writing this in regards to the current political race in the USA. I am writing this from an outsider's perspective on your situation and the candidates in general, so please hear me out.

Many people here would prefer Ron Paul to be President (as do i). Unfortunately however, our wishes have not been fulfilled, and everything seems to be all but lost. Romney or Obama? This seems to be the question of the day...

People rag on Obama for driving the USA into the ground, but the truth is, it was already heading there. Your crash was inevitable...it was unfortunate that Obama had to bear the brunt. Many people here criticise Obama on aspects such as the work force and homeless/work-less rate. Tell me, could you do better? All of you are sitting there looking at Obama, criticising him for every thing he has done, yet you yourself have no idea how hard it would be to change things in a country that was already crashing.

I have another point to raise. Many of you are very unhappy regarding the bills Obama has signed into law. Things like the NDAA, limiting the freedom of the people. I have one thing to say. Take it on the chin and move on. Australia has had similar laws for a decade, nothing bad has happened, it isn't the end of the world. I think a lot of you are over acting...

Moving on to Obama's latest speech. I believe it was great, he captured the emotions of the people and raised interesting topics. He knows how to get a crowd moving.

I agree with Obama and the points he has raised. I know a lot of you would be rolling your eyes at this, but if you actually looked at Obama, his expressions, his body language...he believed in what he was saying. I could actually see a glimmer of hope in his eyes...his eyes reflected in the lights, he was pretty emotional.

With this, i ask of you. Would you really want a warmongering psychopath who is Romney over Obama? If Romney wins, i have no doubt that we'd go to war, i have no doubt that your country will get driven further underground. Romney is not the USA's messiah. He is not the only way out.

I believe that the USA should vote for Obama. Put up with him just one more time, the world will be better off.

I have to disagree. I understand you are looking in from the outside. But in here, where I am Obama is a total failure. I grant you we were already heading for economic problems when he got the job. But he has done little to nothing to make things better. And to answer your question now, no I don't expect that I could have done better. He did bail out the auto industry, supposedly to save millions of jobs. But now GM (government motors) is building their new plants in China. So where are the jobs? He said he would stop the wars. He didn't, started more. He said he would close Guantanimo. He didn't. Said he would be the most transparent administration in US history. His is the least transparent and most secretive in all of US history. Said he disagreed with the patriot act, he renewed it. Then he signed the NDAA. I could probably go on, but there is no need really. When America needed Obumbles, where was he? On vacation, at our expense. And he always had to travel separately from his wife. Adding even more expense. Blah blah, the USA doesn't want or need a king and his court. We want a President that actually shows up for work and does his job...

I heard Putin is going to vote for him in Chicago...and Miami....and New York...and LA...and San Francisco.

Actually I need to change my original answer to your question. I am pretty sure I could have done better. Having read most of the replies, I am, at once, invigorated. Is it too late to file papers for a presidential run? Seriously. How much worse could I do???

Getting rid of a terrible President is not a bad thing.

Reagan had to overcome much more than Obama had to, and he did it in his first term.

To be fair Clinton overcame the mythical mess left by HW Bush (with a lot of help from Republicans)

If a President is a complete failure (like Obama)...GET RID OF HIM....let someone else do the job.

Yeah you have a choice between a crap sandwich and a crap sandwich with cheese on it, come on the crap sandwich with cheese is not that bad... Sigh!

Sorry I refuse to endorse liar/crook number 1 or liar/crook number 2. Not playing the game anymore... The world will not better off with either of these crooks as they continues to rape pillage and plunder it for their banskter and corporate benefactors.

Its amazing people actually still listen to what they say to and actually think there is value in voting for rhetoric and lies that never get implemented...
