Hollande calls on Syrian opposition to form govt, says France would recognize it.

www.washingtonpost.com

PARIS — French President Francois Hollande called on Syria’s opposition to form a provisional government, saying Monday that France would recognize it once such a government is formed.

The announcement from Hollande, in a speech to France’s ambassadors, amounts to an attempt to ratchet up diplomatic pressure on Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime amid escalating bloodshed in the country.

In my opinion, Hollande is a bit rushed up in his ideas. Assad hasn't left power yet, there isn't a empty spot to form a government yet.

Telling the opposition to form a government, without solving the issue around Assad's grip for power, is only going to make it worst.

Later in his speech, Hollande tells that the possibility of Syria using Chemical weapons would be a plausible reason for outside intervention.

But isn't the West forcing Assad to think of that option, when they start organizing someone to replace him before he even leaves the government he has?

Hollande also took issue with Russian and Chinese reticence about reaching tougher language against Assad’s regime, saying “their attitude weakens our ability to carry out the mandate conferred on us by the U.N. charter.”

This was my favorite part. It seems everyone has to jump on the wagon of a definitive resolution, and that resolution is to give power to the current Opposition in Syria.

I believe Hollande's stand and speech is very dangerous. If you (him) are already stating that a country like France will recognize the opposing government without knowing who is in it, then you might be signing the agreement to have, yet another, political nightmare in future years.

Politicians never learn.

What is it with the West's desperate rush to replace secular dictators in the Middle East with Islamic radicals?

One has to wonder how the West's security is furthered by allowing Islamic fundamentalists to seize power.

And what would France do if an insurgency started in their own country?

I'm betting it would involve tactical strikes and water cannons.

Because they will strive to attack us in another 10 years which repeats the process.
Assad had no intentions of attacking anyone. Nor did Gaddafi.
We need a consistent enemy that we are in the process of creating, on multiple fronts.
Eventually we will wage the war all over again.
