"How so" -- what? What are you asking me?

Was in reference to this:

Otherwise, you're just spreading disinformation.

I asked how so the only thing the op did was link an article for discussion and her thoughts on it.

If you want to discuss this issue, fine. But if you're just here to throw out some political bait, as usual, I'm not going to waste my time responding. The subject is: Obama Campaign Contribution Website Invites Fraud

Fail to see how commenting on current events is "bait" and I wonder if I go to the Romney tax return threads I will see a similar comment about "spreading disinformation".

The relevance to the thread topic is apparent and calls in to question of "spreading disinformation".

And it put this conversation in to context which should be done.

This is hillarious...

Anyone familiar with online Credit Card transactions knows that the BANK THAT ISSUES THE CARD WILL NOT ACCEPT PAYMENTS WITHOUT AN ADDRESS THAT MATCHES THE CARD.

NO...You CANNOT donate via credit card with a Name or address that does not match the card.

NO CREDIT CARD COMPANY WOULD PROCESS THE TRANSACTION

Here...

Credit Card Payment Processing--How It Works

.............

The Issuing Bank (or Credit Card Association):

◦validates the card number and expiration

◦checks the amount of the order against the available credit
◦checks the billing address provided against the billing address on file
◦validates the CVV number (if provided)

help.yahoo.com...

The author "Scott W. Johnson" owns the blog you cited and he is a consistent far-right propagandist.

Banks DO NOT process anyones transaction without verifying name and billing address.

What he is accusing the Obama campaign of is IMPOSSIBLE...which is why he didn't go as far to say he checked with his CC card company and confirmed the payment was made.

But what the heck...It bashes Obama...just hold your nose and swallow....AGAIN.

From your link:

Address Verification Service (AVS): With AVS, the billing address provided by the buyer during checkout is validated against the billing address on file at the customer's card issuing bank or credit card association. The AVS response is added to the authorization response and appears in the Order review page.
Merchants can set Risk Tools to flag or accept orders based on the AVS response returned by the issuing bank and First Data. AVS allows merchants to reduce the risk associated with online or phone (card not present) transactions.

From OP:

The Obama campaign was able to take these donations because it had turned off the standard Address Verification System that screens credit-card charges for matching names and addresses.

Scott Johnson began this story in 2008 with a nypost.com story
Matthew Mosk also penned this story for the www.washingtonpost.com... in 2008

So no MSM is covering it now. What a surprise. They don't what to knife their candidate.

If you need new dirt, welcome to it!
Obama ’08 campaign failed to disclose $2 million in contributions, FEC audit finds
www.washingtonpost.com... l

The campaign failed to disclose 1,312 contributions totaling $1,972,266 that were transferred from a fund used to raise money with the Democratic National Committee.

I have been looking into this....

This guy in Sweden just donated to Romney and has the screen-shots to prove it

Romney campaign accepts donations from foreign socialists!
david.steadson.com...

Earlier today a friend of mine on Facebook posted a link to this blog post - Obama Campaign Not Using Verification System – which then references a blog post on Powerline, a well known website for supporters of the US Republican party, titled DUBIOUS DONATIONS ILLUSTRATED (ILLEGAL CONTRIBUTOR EDITION).

From the Powerline article
Trying the same experiment over on the Romney website likely would not work, because the address verification system would determine that there is no “Illegal Contributor” living at the State Penitentiary associated with the credit card.

.............

“Likely“? Wouldn’t it be relatively easy to test? So I did. I went to the Romney campaign website and clicked on the donate link. I put in my credit card number, expiry date, and CCV, and donation of $1. I didn’t put in my own name and address in though. Instead I put in -

Name Steve Jobs
Email [email protected]
Phone 1-800-694-7466
Employer self-employed
Occupation entrepreneur
Address 1 Infinite Loop Cupertino, CA 95014

The Romney campaign response?

SEE SCREENSHOTS HERE, Thank You email, reciept etc here....
david.steadson.com...

He donated to Romney with a fake name and did so from Sweden

PS I’ve emailed the Romney campaign and advised them of the donation and that they should refund it in order not to fall foul of campaign finance laws.

PPS The email, a reply to their donation email and where they suggest corrections be sent … bounced -

He explains that the AVS system is required for merchant transactions that involve products and services, and that donations don't typically have those same fraud precautions.

It appears that it might be possible to donate to the Obama campaign with an innaccurate address...but ditto Mitt Romney and he has the screencaps to prove it.
