Who here has watched this HBO "hit" and not been very impressed?
I umm, downloaded both seasons last week and spent many hours watching the episodes over the course of a few days.
At first, I thought it was going to be a decent show but as season one progressed, I became less and less interested in it.
Even so, after the last episode of season 1, I was still interested enough to move on to season 2 but it didnt get any better, in fact, it just got worse.
On of my problems with it is that the story line splintered off in so many directions that youd have to almost resort to taking notes to keep up. Who the hell wants to do that?

Then theres the constant sex scenes. Now, Im a male and by no means a prude but the constant sex scenes are un necessary and also a distraction that I believe are only in there to keep some people interested, showbiz knows, sex sells. I wont even get into the pedophilia/ incest aspect of the show, which I suppose caters to some other demographic

All and all, I'd give it a 3 out of 10 and thats being generous.

Read the books.

Amazing fantasy books.

Also the series (books) really got me thinking about the Generational family lines...

How generations of people could work for the good of the Family names, and not for themselves...

I think we have forgotten how it used to be, how father and son to grandson would work for the Betterment of their families position.

Sacrifice all to better the family...

Kind makes me wonder why we have forgotten how powerful these dynastic families can be...

Yea, when I realized that it was based on a series of books... well I cheated and went to the wiki page and read the summaries, that was after I lost interest in the show itself.
However, the summaries that I read, just confirmed the opinion that I had about the show. The story line sucks, the soap opera style BS sucks and the killing off of several of the most likable characters sucks.
But hey, thats just my opinion.

Meh id hold of criticism till you actually read the book in question.

Ill admit its a depressing series, its like they kill all hope as soon as it pops up.

But again I am an avid reader of Sci-fi and Fiction, compared to the crap out there it stands far above most.

The series is a science fiction fantasy re-enactment of the War of the Roses

en.wikipedia.org...

Each faction has a claimant to the throne that they believe is most legit. The winner, of course, gets to be king but the family is also showered with fame and fortune. the losers end up dead, exiled and broke

Tired of Control Freaks.

I started watching it, as I love those types of movies/shows...

But by the 6th or 7th episode, i tried thinking about what was going on during the past few episodes, and its just nothing, stacked with good visual effects, and the hope to see the khaleesi naked again

Wasnt much story to me

We liked the series pretty good, mainly we were drawn in because of that time period. The vast locations and multiple plots going on only added to the intrigue.

As far as the sex scenes go, that is nothing compared to what you'll find in the series Spartacus. Those scenes are border-line soft porn. And the sets are pretty basic where as in the Game of Thrones, they were shot in various locations and a lot more complex story line through out.

I'm an avid reader & I flat refuse to either watch a movie where I had just read the book, or in this case, I will not read the books now that I have seen the series. The books always out do the movies and I don't want to be disappointed.
Hollywood always has to put their own twist into a movie so it hardly ever runs exactly with a book.

I've heard the books are great but I'll have to wait a while before I decide to read them, other wise I'll be comparing them to the movie like I did with the Lord of the Rings.....

I am amazed at how closely the show follows the books. I read the first one, and then the show came on, so I'm watching instead of reading. Bad me!

C'mon man! The show isn't that bad! I mean, it's got DRAGONS!!! And baby ones at that, that sit on pretty kaleesi's shoulder...

Seriously though, it is kinda slow, but Peter Dinklage's character Tyrion Lannister keeps me coming back. I haven't gotten but a few episodes into season 2...

No need to say "bad me". I'm glad you gave a good review. Some that have read the books weren't as satisfied.

You just gave me more incentive to read them sooner than later.

At least when I do read them, I'll have faces to put with the characters. Not to mention the scenery of the different locations.

Just wish we didn't have to wait so long for season 3....

What a great actor! I've seen him in a few roles.

I was away for a week and had HBO. Watched the entire Game of Thrones series. I'm in love. Completely captured by it. Only downside is that I was spoiled with 20 episodes and now I have to wait along with everyone else.

Spartacus is much better imo.. The only downside (sadly) is that the actor that played spartacus, died of cancer soon after filming the first season.

While I watched Game of Thrones I also started Boardwalk Empire. Which I think is equally badass and I'm hooked on that as well. I searched for a thread here and unfortunately saw a spoiler. I'm only 6 episodes into the first season.

The bluray boxset comes with a family tree that became indespensable while watching the series. I can see certain people losing interest because of the complexity of the show, but that's why I love the show so much! Each character is so well portrayed and fleshed out. There is no such thing as a flat character here, and there is so much mystery and intrigue. Characters constantly surprised me and some would often incite so much hatred towards them *cough* Joffrey *cough*

I think you should rewatch it and then you'll catch things you might have missed or not understood before.

By the way, I just finished reading the first book and I loved it! I was so utterly astounded how close the show is to the book. The only difference I noticed being Tyrion being much more bad-ass in the book and all the characters being about 5 years younger in the books. I actually prefer them being older in the show. If they used young characters, I dunno, it just wouldn't have the same effect. I would be too distracted watching 13 year olds get married and being expected to have babies.

Just caught up with 'The Game of Thrones' during watchathon week.
(we don't get HBO so it's the only way I could see it).

I thought the series (season one and two) had too much gratuitous sex. Luckily, being on demand, I could fast forward through all the sex scenes and get to the meat of the story. And I liked the story itself.

Favorite character - Tyrion Lannister. (yes .. I like a Lannister best
)
