I heard about this on the radio. It looks like some Sheriffs are meeting about federal overreach of power. I am glad to say I live in one of these counties. I am also glad to see local authorities are beginning to see what the federal government is doing on a local scale.

To quote the website:

The Western Slope Conservative Alliance is hosting a special Sheriff's Roundtable during which a number of sheriffs from Western Colorado and Eastern Utah will discuss the Constitutionality of their local powers. The forum will be open to all citizens who are concerned about the overreach of the federal government into state and local matters. Discussion of the National Defense Authorization Act, Martial Law, and the intrusion of government Agencies will be on the table. All attendees will be given the opportunity to pose questions to the sheriff's about their Constitutional roles.

Due to prior commitments, I will be unable to attend. When I find out results of the meeting I will let you know.

Western Slope Sheriff's Roundtable June 13, 2012

It is nice to see our local authorities standing up for the Constitution.

Wow! That is really great news for the people who live in those jurisdictions! Sadly, my Sheriffs department in the county I live in, seems to have already been federalized.. Seriously, all they do is deliver court documents and transport criminals.

I am surprised that Sheriff Richard Mack isn't on the agenda though...

S&F not many people care about this kind of news, but I most certainly do!

Yeah, the location of this meeting is interesting to say the least. I'm sure that most of the Sheriff's in this area are Masons. However, if they are willing to take a stand to uphold our Constitution, then they have my support.

County sheriffs could be, and should be, indeed are supposed to be our buffer against Constitutional overreach by the feds. There have been a couple of cases where federal agencies have overstepped their authority and threatened to use force, only to be met with answering force from the local sheriff. That should be the rule, and not the exception.

The problem seems to be that sheriffs and local police are being subsumed through federal (DHS) grants, which presumably come with very strong strings attached. As broke as the states and counties and cities are, anything looks like a lifeline. Law enforcement, like anyone else, is going to grab onto it. And then they're bought.

Wonder if TPTB planned it that way...?

Grand Junction is a very small city, I believe the masonic lodge is the largest meeting room in the city except for city hall (Executive Branch).

It looks funny, but I think it was actual logistics that resulted in that space, rather then conspiricy.

God Bless,

P.S. I am good friends with one of these sherrifs, if I can get a report out of him I will post what was said.

Pretty soon we will be hearing about all the human rights violations these people have been "under investigation" for, for "years". Nothing will come of this they will be removed if they actually get their voices heard.

DEMOCRATS REVIVE BILL TO STRIP SHERIFFS OF POWER

Link

Democrats in Delaware have resuscitated a legislation plan that would declare sheriffs in the state have no power to make arrests after a GOP proposal on the dispute was abruptly withdrawn by sponsors. Unlike police chiefs, who are hired by government officials, sheriffs are elected by the people and historically have been recognized as a highest-ranking law enforcement officer in a county. In Delaware, the office of sheriff is a constitutionally created position similar to the secretary of state or attorney general and demands, “The sheriffs shall be conservators of the peace within the counties . . . in which they reside.” The initial legislation, HB 290, was proposed at the behest of Sussex County officials who took issue with their sheriff, Jeff Christopher, who is attempting to restore the office to its constitutional role. The bill stated “‘Police officer’ as used in this code shall not include sheriffs and sheriff deputies,”

sheriffs have no Constitutional authority other than what they have as citizens of the United States. they are creations of the states. in much the same manner as when a municipal police officer is just a regular person once they leave the jurisdiction of their municipality. i think people take those badges to seriously or not seriously enough...i don't know which.

surely these sheriffs realize that the slope they are on is a slippery one. 'well regulated' militias have authority under the Constitution being necessary to the security of a Free State.

Sheriffs going against the Federal government would give 'well regulated' militia a reason to remove them from power immediately...

its so annoying that people are increasingly being led towards actions that will most certainty unravel society for no other reason than personal opinion and political grandstanding.

The western slope conservative alliance? Big red flag right there.

I'd rather have the federal government have the final say on everything, instead of a group of sheriffs that are part of a conservative alliance.

Exchanging one set of corrupt power hungry criminals for another set. What's the difference? If they abuse their authority on a small scale....imagine what'll happen when they take all the power.

I'll have to respectfully disagree. Their constitutional authority comes from their oath of office, same as any other agent of government. They have no constitutional authority? Is that a joke?

State Constitution perhaps...not the Federal Constitution.

Sheriffs are just regular people outside their county; at the very most they are treated cordially within their States. Federal Agents are Law Enforcement Agents where ever they may be in this land.

That's what the Sheriffs are so upset about. They want to determine if there are some greater powers they can achieve and there are not. their job is to serve summons', write traffic tickets and babysit shoplifters.

Leave defense to the men.

What doesn't make sense is some guy in Arizona thinking he can challenge the President of the United States.
