Now apparently in some states you can be arrested for cheering too loudly. I've heard of this happening at sporting events, sporting events are supposed to be loud, hello? but graduations?

What's wrong with us? How did a simple thing like a cheer become arrestable? What manner of laws are we getting stuck with while the media harp on the latest scandal either politically or by Hollywood.

Certain states of laws for playing music too loudly in your car, that I could go along with, sorry apologies to anyone just a pet peeve of mine, but the best is a fine and ticket, police don't bother with that, that's way more annoying then cheering. They should concentrate more on that, loud music has caused neighbors to flip out on each other. I'm just saying.... Why aren't police looking for real criminals?

TextA mother in South Carolina was arrested moments after she cheered for her daughter as she walked across the stage to accept her diploma.School officials had announced before the ceremony that anyone cheering or screaming for those graduating would be escorted from the building.

If they announced before the graduation, then why did she still do it? It was an attempt to get her 15 minutes of fame. As soon as she heard that anouncement, she saw her oppourtunity.

Yeah but come on what kind of up tight a-holes would ban cheering at a graduation?... Geeze!

So they arrest her instead of just kicking her out? That's taking it a bit far even if she was warned and made a dumb choice.

Did they warn that they would be escorted from the building or they would be arrested? Those things are kinda different

American retardness at its finest.

Did they not say that they would be escorted not arrested? On what grounds was she arrested afterall? Any legal ones?

Disorderly conduct. That charge is so open to any kind of interpretation they want that it's scary

Stupid. First, why would they allow no cheering whatsoever? Second, why would they not just tell her to shut up or get out, if they were insistent upon being so uppity about it? Third, this country is becoming so intolerant of anything and everything with no room for discussion. Good for mom for cheering.

A zero-tolerance no-cheer policy at a graduation ceremony. How pathetic.

You see this is just the dumbing down of america and taking away of the competition for doing good.

No more scoring on sports because we dont' want the losers to feel bad.

Lowering the school grading scale so those who dont do so good feel better.

Don't cheer for YOUR kid because maybe someone else doesn't get the exact same cheer.

Wouldn't want them to feel bad huh.... this is so lame.. when my kids graduate I will cheer release balloons and throw a party... I love my kids and the schools can kiss my round bottom lol

i somewat agree.. But how far does this, "i make a statement befoe ad if you break it youre gone" go? If I hold a function and I tell evryone, "if you laugh when looking at m, I will shoot you.". Then they laugh while looking at me ad I shoot them.. Well.. I told them, dont do that. They knew the consequence.

That link was rather sparse with information about the incident. Perhaps she freaked out when told to shut up. I would be pretty surprised if there isn't more to this story.

Look, I have been to 2 Grads this year. The whole Yelling and Screaming when someone walks across the stage needs to be stopped.

The whole thing takes away from the seriousness and honor assocaited with graduation. The poor kid/student behind the one being yelled for misses their "fame" when their name and info can't be heard due to the noise etc.

This is not a sporting event.

I am sure for many it is a dam wonder how they got up to that grad stage etc... but don't let the world know it-by acting like morons etc. Guess what patent---- It isn't about you.....

now, arrest? I can't say that is the answer-I think more pre-education leading up to graduation. Maybe some signed paperwork of the understanding of rules etc.....

According to Daily Mail, police refused to comment on the incident but said people who became disorderly while they were being escorted out of the civic center were arrested and detained. Police say they charged Cooper with disorderly conduct, but Cooper said: "Disorderly conduct? What's the disorderly conduct? How was I so disorderly you know any different from just a happy parent? I didn't resist arrest, nothing."

Here's an article with some more meat. I have a feeling she was acting out when she was being escorted.

Also;

I could take you know if I did something, but like I said, yes they said you'll be escorted out no problem. I'll be escorted out. I'll go nicely because I'm gonna cheer.

So then don't whine when you mess up your kid's graduation, along with everyone else that had to watch your trashy self be taken out.

Part of me agrees with what you said, but still when in this country has it become against the law for people to cheer? Looks like to me all they want is a bunch of dumbed down robots, whose sole purpose is to work and pay their taxes, so the elite get richer. Is there where we're headed?

Are you serious? She was acting like an ass and ruining the event. I'd be willing to bet she got unruly when asked to leave and that led to her arrest. Somehow that equates to the dumbing ( ugh ) down the masses so the 'elite' make more money?

Speaking of asses I suppose I came across as one in this post. Sorry. Need coffee.

I do feel special....

My honor students kicked your kids butt...... AT EVERYTHING!!!

My honor students probably sold your kid drugs.

My honor students will go on to be great while yours holds there hands out to you and uncle sam.

My honor students know they have to try hard to suceed and they also know when they acoomplish their goals I will be there to show them my support.

When my honor students fail I don't baby them, I tell them to stop crying get up and try again.

Yeah I feel special because I have great kids because they get up and try again when they fail.

Yeah I feel special because I take great care of my kids and when I get old they will be everything they ever want to be.

Yeah I feel special.

Your forgiven.

I can certainly understand the need for coffee. As a person who depends alot on the caffeine kick myself, I don't always come across as too coherent until after the traditional 1st cup of coffee in the morning.

We, or is it us? (Oh, well pick which one that fits at the beginning of the sentence. Grammar was never my favorite in school. :lol
Coffee drinkers should stick together.

Yes, I know I was surprised myself there was so little to it. Even though I never heard of warning people to not cheer, I have heard of holding the applause, at certain functions, though. But to be arrested for it , well maybe cops are trolling for money because of state budget, who knows, the real reason.

you got that right. Now you have to watch what you say, how you say, and who you say it to.

PC is the worst thing to have happened to this country. Nearly everybody that follows that is sue happy looking for the right time gain your 15 minutes of fame, line up with some sly, smooth talking attorney, and presto: extra income tv news, talk shows and finally if your attorney's really good trial and subsequent payouts. That's my take on things call me cynical.

By the way, whatever happened to sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. What are they teaching these kids and teens now.

It's a pretty sad state of affairs that people can't cheer their own children at a graduation. Kids put in a lot of effort into their schooling and SHOULD be celebrated.
