Was Jesus the only to be crucified and resurrect? I have read accounts of people claiming that there have been many who were born of a virgin and started a religious following.

But not everyone was born with a future of reading comprehension and reflection. Don't worry about it.

It isn't 'rumors' that civilizations dating much earlier than the time of Jesus had very similar beliefs. It's not hard to find, just google it. There have actually been quite a few 'virgin' births of supposed higher beings that could heal people or cause other miracles or whatever. The story of the virgin birth goes way back.

From Greece comes the virgin birth of Adonis, who was resurrected after being killed by a wild boar. Adonis was revered by the Phoenicians as a dying-and-rising god, and Athenians held Adonia, a yearly festival representing his death and resurrection, in midsummer.

From the Americas comes a remarkable story of the god-man Quetzalcoatl told by the Aztecs and Mayans. Not only did he have a virgin birth, but he was associated with the planet Venus, the morning star, as was Jesus. In addition, the religion built around him used the cross as a symbolic representation. Like the myths around Jesus, Quetzalcoatl said he would return to claim his earthly kingdom.

Mithra was a Persian god who was also a virgin birth, but was more than just a tribal god. Mithra was born in a cave and had twelve companions. Mithra's birthday was also on December 25th. Both religions celebrate the resurrection at Easter. Much of what we know about Mithracism today came from the Christians. The prophet Zoroaster was also born of a virgin. Perseus and Hercules all experienced virgin births after being fathered by yet other gods. Horus, Mithra, Dionysus and Krishna were all born on December 25th., their births were announced by "stars", attended by 'wise men', involved humble birth locations, entailed the massacre of innocents and fleeing for safety from enemies, and so on and on.

A Roman savior Quirrnus was born of a virgin. In Tibet, Indra was born of a virgin. He ascended into heaven after death. In India, the god Krishna was born of the virgin Devaki. Virgin births were claimed for many Egyptian pharaohs, Greek emperors and for Alexander the Great of Greece.

Thanks for the contribution-

I'm just trying to understand what separates the christ from the other "mythical characters"

For instance- did these others walk on water etc etc
Thanks again

Horus

Born of a virgin, Isis. Only begotten son of the God Osiris. Birth heralded by the star Sirius, the morning star. Ancient Egyptians paraded a manger and child representing Horus through the streets at the time of the winter solstice (about DEC-21). In reality, he had no birth date; he was not a human. Death threat during infancy: Herut tried to have Horus murdered. Handling the threat: The God That tells Horus’ mother “Come, thou goddess Isis, hide thyself with thy child.” An angel tells Jesus’ father to: “Arise and take the young child and his mother and flee into Egypt.” Break in life history: No data between ages of 12 & 30. Age at baptism: 30. Subsequent fate of the baptiser: Beheaded. Walked on water, cast out demons, healed the sick, restored sight to the blind. Was crucifed, descended into Hell; resurrected after three days.

Zoroaster/Zarathustra

Zoroaster was born of a virgin and “immaculate conception by a ray of divine reason.” He was baptized in a river. In his youth he astounded wise men with his wisdom. He was tempted in the wilderness by the devil. He began his ministry at age 30. Zoroaster baptized with water, fire and “holy wind.” He cast out demons and restored the sight to a blind man. He taught about heaven and hell, and revealed mysteries, including resurrection, judgment, salvation and the apocalypse. He had a sacred cup or grail. He was slain. His religion had a eucharist. He was the “Word made flesh.” Zoroaster’s followers expected a “second coming” in the virgin-born Saoshynt or Savior, who is to come in 2341 AD and begin his ministry at age 30, ushering in a golden age.

Dionysus

Dionysus was born of a virgin on December 25 and, as the Holy Child, was placed in a manger. He was a traveling teacher who performed miracles. He “rode in a triumphal procession on an ass.” He was a sacred king killed and eaten in an eucharistic ritual for fecundity and purification. Dionysus rose from the dead on March 25. He was the God of the Vine, and turned water into wine. He was called “King of Kings” and “God of Gods.” He was considered the “Only Begotten Son,” Savior,” “Redeemer,” “Sin Bearer,” Anointed One,” and the “Alpha and Omega.” He was identified with the Ram or Lamb. His sacrificial title of “Dendrites” or “Young Man of the Tree” intimates he was hung on a tree or crucified.

There are more, but you get the point...

Let’s say that you have an adversary who knows in advance that you will do something that will affect all of mankind and this adversary mimics what you are going to do in advance just to throw people off so that when you do what you have planed everyone would say that has been done before and yours is just a copy when your plan is the true plan. Well that is what the adversary the Devil has done with prior supposed virgin births to try and fool people about the true birth of Christ.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts it is definitely an interesting concept, and one I have thought about before - if one wanted to deceive or delude the whole world, this way of thinking would go along way in presenting "evidence" to back up certain claims which go against the mainstream way of thinking such as prior instances of virgin births etc to dispute doctrine.

IMO, the same can be said for some of the contents of the popular History Channel series "Ancient Aliens" - suggestions/evidence of civilisations existing prior to the 6000years theory abound on this show, and gentlemen such as Klaus Dona and some of his findings go along way in confirming your hypothesis. What better way to present evidence than something carved in a rock or the like - entities with bird heads, flying snakes, people riding dinosaurs, the "grey" looking creatures as well as other "gods" from the stars - all carved in rock apparently tens of thousands of years ago - presented as existing well before the supposed start of civilisation and contradicting mainstream teachings.

If there is indeed a "book of life" written before time as we know it which has all of our names in it, if Jesus spoke to John in Revelations and actually said "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End"- written, supposedly, as instructed by God, then your premise of knowing the whole story before it comes to pass makes me wonder who else may have been privy to this "game plan".

Time travel - Philadelphia experiment / UFO abductee accounts of missing time / astro travel / remote viewing / sharmanism etc as I have read seem to all touch on this subject of prior knowledge of events.

Thanks for your post - I enjoy contemplating these little paradox's.
