we did our years of protesting and changing the corrupts ways of leaderships, its yoru turn and it isour time the boomers to give advice and back you. we did our time and we are tired. But im betting let the social security checks stop, let medicare be taken out, the boomers will come out of their caves, cracks, holes and homes in protest. And if it does happen their will be meanign behind a boomer protest and the govenrment will listen. remember we have decades of life experience your generation has yet to recieve.

I agree
I think the real solution is to Nationalize everything. Starting with the Oil Industry,Banking Industry and Education/Medical. This will ensure that you guys are not left out in the cold by the corporatists or forced to work until you die.

Nationalization will save the baby boomer. But are they too stubborn to accept it?

Genuinely sorry to hear that the future is uncertain for you, I mean this. Same here in u.k for our generation. Wife and I are,nt looking forward to old age, but I don,t suppose previous generations have either....

I asked my mother whom is still alive, did she worry like I have to as she was nearing retirement, she quickly responded no, because she knew she prepared and had social security and medicare, she said she would hate to be a boomer because there isnt going to be anything for us and we are basically scrwd.
I am worried we worked so hard for all these years, I owe 8 years on the one and only home we ever bought, and today right know my husband and I are discussing selling it and downsizing even more then our already small home. maybe a travel trailer like home on a acre somewhere in the middle of nowhere. We honestly dont expect to recieve ss in 8 years.

the differnece in baby boomers and the X and Y generation is, we are truely mentally and meteralitsticall ready for most chatastrophic events, we grew up in the post war adn cold war era, we lived daily with drills and preparations . if tshtf, the youngers will be looking to us olders cause we see we know and arent as attached ot gadgets like them.

Try make sure you own your own home, whatever it is, it is still home, before you retire. Nothing else is more important, even if it does mean downsizing......Sorry, all, getting off topic.

ya nationalizing is a good start. but we also need to change the entire governements. they have worked in cahoots long enough to have each others back. especially here in usa. out with them all new all new, maybe even new parties. sorry i was angry really i feel the fool right know. I jsut worry between gov spending and the yonger generation seeing so many boomers needing expecting our due, I understand your stress about us also. But we worked ot help our elders even though is was easier we still had other issues, and worked it out. we need to unite not divide. peace

I think you are right.

I dont think many can comprehend this. They refuse to believe it. The way the world is going is bs. The mega-rich have seen their standard of living skyrocket to unbelievable levels while the rest of us mill around waiting for Austerity. Old people should be able to retire at a reasonable age. The State should ensure that they are cared for. The corporatist runs the State though. So the old will not be cared for unless we change things.

Age my friend. I'm one of the last of the BB's and I'll be 50 in a couple of weeks. The energy is not there any more. There are still things one can do though. I don't remember the last foreign car I owned for example.

you are not a BB you are a Gen X!- 1959-1970

Baby Boomers generation was born between 1946 and 1965.

No,I would be pissed off if I was you too. I have seen guys from Greece on tv saying that they worked for a company for 45 years and were given notice and a few weeks pay. Its sickening. Austerity on the poor is not the solution to the worlds problems. If the rich politicians and bankers will not find better solutions than harsh Austerity then I think Nationalization has to be the way to go.

And yes,the traditional parties are corrupt. The money in politics has to go.

But yeah,we have to try harder to find solutions for everyone, including those that find themselves in need as they age.

Well instead of censor circumvention and swearing come up with links to prove your point. As I did previously- Baby Boomers 1946-1964. Btw, that's 18 years, not 40.

I just think that baby boomers are dumber in general. I also think that they are dumber as far as politics go.

So, you are unable to make the jump from being critical of specific racist groups, and being critical of a group with a certain sexual orientation, to being critical of a certain age group, because there is many of them, due to a war?

You can see what you doing? Yeah. Grow up and stop being such a bigoted ageist.

I'm not here to blame any generation for all the problems of the world, but you are right about this. Baby boomers are the largest percentage of our population. Add to that advances in medicine, and a spiraling economy, it has kept these people at work longer.

Im going ot the bank tomorrow, I bought the home as a liveable fixerupper, when i bought it we was working been layed 18 months ago. been going through our 401k, had to or we would loose our home, our ages and experince levels make it real hard to get a job. the youngers work for pennys on our dollars, we would even take a downpay but the experince is to much they think we would not be happy in a lower paying job so we get over looked. anyhow we have 300% equity we were not mans fools when the refies went around and the high priced homes were flying off the charts. we stayed put in the same old place slowly fixing it up to have a great amount of equity. refinance the total value of the home into a shorter termed smaller payment, maybe have to rent it out for 6 or 7 years then we own it and can hopefully figure out a way to pay utilities and buy food, i have taken up gardening and have a successful garden this year, we live on outskirts of town in the desert near a lake great hunting so we feel food wont be our biggest issue, health care will be our issue, then again mexico is right down the road we could start using their doctors, resourceful measures when times are tight

Might I respectfully suggest that your comments might come across a teensy bit aggressive,
and not do anything to further the baby boomer cause ?

Youa re right I apologize for my anger. I jsut keep reading on twitter, here and other forums the generation X and Y really becomming angry we boomers expect our given what we earned labored and saved for. It is like they are being programmed to destroy hate us and believe we are taking from that which we never earned. It is actually a little alarming on how many more forums and threads its showing up
My husband and I should be retiring in 8 years, but with the young people haten on us and the gov stealing and rapping us my husband and I are very worried about our near future adn we should nto be worried.

Wouldn't worry about it
Anything that is enacted will not effect our obligations as a country...ultimately anyone 50 and older doesn't need to even consider the impact of todays discourse towards seniors...
however, those whom are 40 something and hearing the new talk about in effect stopping the whole system as it is may want to consider joining in the conversation considering they spent 20+ years paying into a system that is being bankrupted by other agencies (aka war).

We can be a prosperous nation, or a military strength..it seems to be one or the other in todays day and age...I prefer the prosperity over having the biggest arsenal personally. The politicians however appear to favor the military might being our claim to fame for civilization.

I wouldn't say they are dumber but they are less educated or wrongly educated and that goes for all previous generations because they learned what was back then thought to be the truth. We constantly discover new things, we constantly learn more about the world we live in and we constantly change history books, biology and everything else. It's the same as people in the dark ages and beyond believing the earth was flat, then it was discovered it wasn't, then humans learned more about the planet.

And of course older generations just stop learning at some point, thinking, what they learned so far is enough and they usually can't get a grasp on new technology, new ways of thinking. I mean how many 50-60 year old people are out there who know more about computers than who to put it on, maybe go online (and i guess how to download porn
) while today even 12 year old kids know how to assemble a computer and can even program.

Sad thing is though that the older generations usually also think they are the best. "When we grew up everything was a paradise, everything was great, everything was awesome, you kids of today live in a #hole, you have nothing, you suck" or seeing as more tough (the old "when i was your age i walked 90 miles to school every days, without shoes in 30 feet high snow") and the constant mention of 'growing up in the 50's and 60' was awesome' because they really do believe that back then things like violence, murder and rape weren't existant. You can constantly see this here on ATS when those old people brag about them growing up and how awesome it is.

As Facebook and other things are mentioned: It's also normal. Previous generation think everything new that becomes popular is crap. I bet those baby boomers heard the same from their parents when they went like stupid Lemmings after Elvis Presley because the media hyped him as the big ultimate superstar (despite having even less talent than Lady Gaga
) and the hype for fads like Hula Hoop or Skateboards that became big at that time.

I can,t understand how America can afford it,s vast military. Surely the money would be better spent on social care, and healthcare ?
