THEN
You could actually find companies had loyalty to their employees, You rarely saw a homeless person. Union wasnt a bad word. Compassion wasn't viewed as weak. At your job, you didn't get dumped at age 50 for a twenty something. You could get a college education without selling a kidney to get it. People actually had a say in government. Being religious didn't mean you were crazy. If you disagreed with someone, you just said "its a free country" and that was the end of it. There were GOOD jobs in the United States.

NOW

People live in tent cities. You see homeless every day. Unions are practically non existent. All the good jobs are gone, and the ones that are left are filled by foreigners. People live paycheck to paycheck. Companies view workers as expendable. If you disagree with someone, you can get your life threatened. The government is owned by corporations. A college education is indentured servitude. If you lose your job after 50, you will probably never work again.

THANKS RONALD REAGAN!

We can thank the republican party for a lot of this. And some blue dog democrats who are just republicans posing as dems.

Heh. It's all Reagan's fault? Why was Clinton so crappy, that he couldn't fix any of the woes you mentioned. After all, unionism declined on his watch as well.... And exporting jobs overseas was a 1990s phenomenon....

Your instincts are probably right that running against Bush again probably cannot get Pharaoh Obama elected one more time. But running against Reagan is an even worse idea--he's still the most popular president, according to polls. A lot of folks wish they were still living in the America of the 80s. Hot tub time machine and all that.

I actually blame the people who subscribe to the conserv./ repub. left/ right paradigm for the state that this country is in more than anyone else, and you are included. Keep up the squabbles while they pull the rug out. Keep using the scapegoat to direct attention away from yourself and your lame ass boring political opinions. Thx for the read lol.

I never considered Bill Clinton a dem, I voted for Ross Perot. Clinton ran as a dem but his policies were republican. Hillary Clinton WAS a republican and changed parties, at least on paper.

As I said, its a free country. You probably feel that way because you cant remember when there actually WERE two parties. At one time there was.

That's a really insightful take you have on the differences between life under a republican versus life under a democratic government. Here's how I remember it...

THEN, If you voiced your opinion on matters of political concern, you were called "opinionated". NOW, you are called a racist and your friends are encouraged to turn you in to a tip hotline at whitehouse.gov.

THEN, The unions were fronts for mobsters running the rackets, hijacking trucks and swindling money from dues that their members paid. NOW, the unions gang up on and beat voters in the streets if those voters don't agree with the union's political picks.

THEN, The leaders of the unions conspired in secrecy to "take people out". NOW, the leader of the largest union in America - Jimmy Hoffa Jr - announces publicly to wage a war on people because of their political views, and to "take them out".

THEN, America's leaders promoted "Buy American". NOW, America's so-called leaders demand that we Embrace and Tolerate foreign beliefs, customs and ideals.

THEN, America sought to build a great nation on the foundations of capitalism, and it worked. NOW, the democrats and liberals whine because we are too rich a nation in comparison to others, and they seek to tear down capitalism and institute socialism in its place.

THEN, our soldiers swore an oath to defend our Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and they fought gallantly to uphold that oath. NOW, (according to the current democrat in office) our soldiers no longer fight for the defense of the Constitution, or for Freedom, or Liberty, but they instead fight "on his behalf".

Then, we had a president who said, "The idea of a nation is only as real as its borders." Now we have the attorney general suing states who try to enforce congress's laws regarding illegal entry in to the US.
