American female defense lawyer covers up in traditional Islamic dress at 9/11 Guantanamo trial 'out of respect' for her client's religious beliefs

Cheryl Bormann, 52, insisted other women in court also dress 'appropriately'

A female defense attorney, who is not Muslim, wore the traditional Islamic hijab to the military court staging the trial of five Guantanamo Bay prisoners accused of the September 11 attacks yesterday.

Cheryl Bormann, 52, who represents Walid bin Attash, said that her client had demanded she wear the clothing and insisted that other women at the hearing also wear 'appropriate' clothes out of respect for his religion

She asked that other women follow her example so that the defendants do not have to avert their eyes 'for fear of committing a sin under their faith'

Lawyers for all defendants complained yesterday that the prisoners were prevented from wearing the civilian clothes of their choice.

Daily Mail

The defence lawyer's request that everyone dresses in a hijab doesn't wash in an American court.

It does however earn browny points with the Saudi-backed Wahhabists she appears keen to please by trying to bring Sharia law into American courts by the backdoor.

She's welcome to suggest anything she's like. It's her perogative if the Court members permit it. Everyone else can suggest she keep her opinions to herself and focus on the "people" she is there to defend. Many in that base are guilty at VERY different levels...and some may have no guilt at all. I believe we got rid of most, if not all the mistakes by now, but who knows??

Point is, she has to nerve to say this to the open court while defending one of the hard core guilty. I'd say it's HER..not the rest of US...who need to recall where they are and what the setting is. It isn't a social gathering and no one's inside an Islamic House of Worship. It's a court room and this is a major trial for her client's life. It's also HER job to CONTROL her client. If she can't handle that, throw her out of this case right now and get someone in who can handle it.

I never want a weak defense attorney who can't handle an extreme Alpha male client to later be the subject of appeal for ineffective counsel. Oh screw that..... She's already shown that may very well be a problem now.

Stupid woman...should have told them to go jump. They are lucky to be in court at all..if we played by Islamic Shariah law then they'd be hung by now without trial..or worse.
Her justifications are crap and this is a well known stragetgy for Sharia incrementalism..if they can get just one to do as they say it empowers them all the more..this 'woman' is betraying women everywhere as far as I am concered...shame on her.

I don't believe I read that...Maybe I shouldn't be so surprised. Are they going to want prayer rooms as well?

It appears that they already have one.

Prayer time: Defendants refused to answer questions and repeatedly held up proceedings

Daily Mail

Is this court in the USA or is it in Saudi Arabia?

Nothing like being culturally sensitive.

Now if the Wahhabis showed a little more sensitivity for our culture rather than it all being one way...

Please stop the propaganda and hate charade.

WTC towers were being brought down by demolitions planted in the building, not the dumb jet fuel that mainstream media spin. Terrorists are just low-paid operatives by CIA, Mossad, etc.

The NWO, TPTB and Zionists think that everyone is a sheeple to believe their dirty evil game.

Women should do what?

Well it's against my religion that women cover up their God-given beauty.
There's a reason we're all born naked.

It's extremely ridiculous that the court allowed these men to pray in the courtroom of a secular country.
Even more ridiculous it's the lawyer, doing something against her beliefs just because her client is such an idiot, he doesn't understand not everyone shares his beliefs.

I have nothing against Islam, but if anyone tries to change the way I live or do stuff, then yes, I'm gonna have a huge huge problem.

"You don't like it? Cover your damn eyes! Allah will understand." Pfft.

Should anyone have a problem with Islam?

According to the Koran and Hadith, Muhammad

Pronounced death for leaving Islam,

• Told followers that Jihad was the second highest thing after believing in Allah,

• Stated he would fight until everyone admitted their was only one god, Allah,

Burnt people for not praying and

Forced non Muslims to be humbled, submit to Islam and pay jizyah tax.

Here it all is in Muslims' own holy books

Muhammad pronounced:-

• Death for leaving Islam Sahih Bukhari Book 1, Vol 24, Verse 24

• Jihad Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, number 25

• Fighting others until they admit their is only one god, Allah Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, number 24

• Burning people for not praying Sahih Bukhari Book 1, Vol 11, Verse 626

• Forcing Non Muslims to submit and pay jizyah tax Koran Book 9 Verse 29

Now if the founder of Islam pronounced all of those things, why are people surprised if Wahhabi Muslims are not peaceful Muslims?

For a second it actually made me very proud that this woman was willing to acquiesce to her clients demands. Kind of a 'We're better then than them!' moment.

Then I remembered that women are equal, and these punks would have them all as servants if they could. I'm such an internet tough guy right now, but I would gladly break the nose of anyone that told one of the women I love to cover up.

The logic that dictates women should cover themselves could be applied to men, forcing them to have their eyeballs plucked out. Is the stance really that men are so weak they cannot help themselves if they see a woman's face? An arm? A leg?

Is the image of a woman somehow repulsive or wrong to a Muslim's God? If so, why did he make or allow women? I just don't get it.

Scary stuff in them books.
But there's scary stuff in the Bible too.

All the more reason for everyone to keep their religion on a personal level.
Religion should be like rights: yours end when mine begin.

It's good to see that there are still people around who are willing to listen to the evidence provided with an open mind and formulate their own unbiased opinion based on ALL the facts.

.....whilst drinking beer and reading The Satanic Verses!

Guess some people just don't get it.....it's one thing respecting another's belief's etc, however, it's another thing altogether imposing them upon everyone else.

I guess that's one of the fundamental differences between the Islamic world and the 'Western' world.

If you'll show me some hate and propaganda, I'll join you in calling for an end to it. I seem to be making a habit of that just recently.

All I see here is well earned outrage. I won't even mention what the trial is about. It's not important. We have an American attorney in an American Court Room on the middle of an American Military base who is defending a man for his life.

Now...In that rather unique position, this American Attorney has the unmitigated gall to 'suggest' that other women, which I assume would include any serving United States Soldiers, should cover themselves for the benefit of the ....accused?

You mean..the man we're going to kill or bury in a cell until nature and old age takes him for whatever he may be on trial for (
)??

Umm.. Yeah... I call that unbelievable moxy and just a level of arrogance I've never really seen before. It would have been worse....a little bit....if the Nazi's had made demands of the members of the court during the Nuremberg trials, but not by much. Not by much at all.

Anyone who knows anything about me knows, I have no love for any wahabi, and the feeling is returned in kind... Eternal enemies are we.

However, I am against torture of any kind, from anyone, against anyone. Regardless, it is inhumane. To me, that torture is still ongoing in Guantanamo, toward an already beaten and defenseless enemy... in every form the American can imagine to inflict it.

Even your enemies deserve better. As has been mentioned, these are the hours before their death.

And yes, if you must know, Islam teaches me this... I just happen to follow it. And I thank God I was given the gift that is Islam, because without it, well... I see in all of you what I would be without it. I find myself thankful I am not so evil as to wish upon my enemy evil in the hours before his death. He will soon enough be before the Seat of Judgement.

You make an interesting point on that and one I've started looking into and learning about. I've gotten far enough in all that to clearly see you're right about the divisions within the Islamic followers and just how severe and serious those divisions actually are. People seem to consider the "Arabs" to be of a single West-Hating mind, when it appears things may be considerably more complex than that.

I wonder, has anyone ever taken a few moments to look at the prisoner list of Gitmo Bay and actually see about putting denomination and sect to each and stand back for what pattern, if any, might be apparent? I know the list of names went into the public domain a few years ago. Even USA Today carried that as I recall. Anyway, that could be a fascinating exercise if the outcome did show a pattern one direction or the other.

You also make a good point about being a at least a bit...gracious? Well, we don't have to gloat at the end, anyway. I'm not sure that's what I see here. I've actually been deliberate here about condeming the Attorney, not the accused.

If I were in Iran, Iraq or Saudi Arabia and on trial...(If I wasn't just beheaded upon capture in Saudi or Iraq, of course) I'd make every request and nutty demand I figured I could get away with. Why not when the people are going to find guilt, no matter what. If they don't? Heck... Listen to Obama and Holder about the trial in NYC when a reporter asked if Acquittal for KLM would be release? No...it sure wouldn't. So why not try and throw wrenches at every turn?

His attorney deserves the verbal abuse though. Part of her job is, literally, to control her Client. A Female defending a male Muslim was patently insane anyway. There must be a real story behind that one...but I guess when you're guilty before the trial ever starts, the lawyer being assigned might as well be a P.C. symbol at the same time. It's not like her skill will ever do more than mitigate how BAD it gets for her client.

I think she's just laying groundwork for her case's future. She'll probably say her client couldn't focus on his defense, or was unduly stressed, or some such rot. She's just getting the hijab concept in the record early, so she can refer back to it later when she calls for a mistrial.
