Remember Dolly the sheep? One of the scientists behind that experiment has now (this Tuesday), requested permission to engage in cloning of human embryos.

hosted.ap.org
Ian Wilmut, who led the team that created Dolly at Scotland's Roslin Institute in 1996, said he had applied for a license from the government's fertility authority to clone cells from sufferers of motor neuron disease to discover how the debilitating condition develops.

"We owe it to the people who suffer from it and are going to suffer from it in the future to try and develop treatments for them," Wilmut said.

The issue of human cloning is a controversial as well as an important one, considering the coming election, and this recent request will most probably fuel an already heated debate.

the 6th day movie a sci fi flick actually coming to view.... what a joke... cloning should be banned the dangers it brings but its justifiable because it finds "cures".... you cant trust people with this kind of power...

We can call for bans all we want but its going to happen no matter what. Bans by Western and UN countries will only go so far. It may keep the technology back for a number of decades but eventually someon will do it.

I don't want to see it happen either but again, the genie has been let out.

If one country bans, another will do it. Can't stop progress.

...its about time.

Deny Ignorance, and ignoring what "we" can obtain from this research is catastrophic IMO.

As soon as I heard about Dolly, I figured they (someone) had ALREADY cloned a human, (but they always keep the public in the dark). Remember a couple years ago they cloned a donkey and had a contest for 4th graders to name the cloned donkey, (desensitizing our youth, preparing them for future clones)?
Rev. 13 describes what one could consider a clone...

If this was legalised and in the future a third World War broke out, it would have more chance of destroying humanity then World Wars 1 and 2 as both sides could just keep cloning more and more soldiers and if they could genitically enhance these soldiers the result might well be complete anihilation of the Human race.

Cloning has many pros and cons.

Cloning is very beneficial to the military as they can clone literally thousands and thousands of soldiers with improved reflexes and agility.

Cloning can give people with severe medical conditions a candle in the dark, they could clone legs, cells, virtually anything a human have, they can clone.

Cons are identity theft, you could steal a persons hair and then clone his or her then steal their identity.

With the cloning technology they have right now, the test subjects have a short life span, physical defects and diseases.

Cloning can be good if the UN make a international law to restrict the use of cloning to purely beneficial means.
