This elk has been hanging around the area for a bit now, she was close enough for me to walk to last night. She was only a little skiddish at first. She let me pet her after I put the camera down.

Just thought I'd share with everyone.

Man, this is awesome. I'm not an animal lover but I love animals if that makes sense.
I prefer them in nature and I encounter them instead of keeping pets and what not.
My mother has a cat and that's enough Animal in my house for me.

If you're self aware enough it's almost like you know what animals are thinking.

It was cool, when she was deciding if I was ok I could see the dilemma on her face. She smelled the apple but wasn't sure about me. Took her a minute to decide.

That's like the elk up in Estes Park, CO. Very tame! Excellent video, and thank you for sharing.

I hope you dont live up to your screen name when she's bigger ! (lol)

Nice experience though I bet.

if she returns it might be better to shoo her away and make her more uncomfortable around humans - for her sake.

You really should be more careful around wild animals. Several hundred people get killed by elk a year as well as a few million dollars in property damage.

You're lucky she didn't turn and attack you. Very lucky.

You really should be more careful next time.

Wild animals should be respected.

Where do you live? Like, urban, suburban, rural?

This elk has come up to my grandfather and nudged him on the arm because she wants to be fed. I wouldn't just walk up to something I had no reference for.

It was an adrenaline rush, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't in any danger.

You sound like a scared, fear for your life person.
Did you learn that rhetoric from the television?

Come on! It isn't a bear, lion or dangerous creature.
And I don't think you would approach those animals anyways.
Only mothers are overly protective when their young are around.

Most animals would run immediately upon smelling a human.
Apparently this one is a little more tame than the others.

Nice video, Mr. Headshot.

Thanks man. Elk can be dangerous, it's usually the males though. The female may be a little more pissy next month if she has a calf, because you won't see the calf laying in that tall grass. But, for now, she's fine.

Wow, that's pretty cool.

Just one thing though; If you did touch it, or get that close, make sure to check yourself for ticks. Most of those lil buggers that latch on to Elk & Deer are carriers of Lyme disease and you don't want one latching onto you or any pets you may have.

I have never seen an elk alone, are they often alone like that where you live?

I am always surprised how people love seeing an animal shown affection but she is exactly like a cow and most who say how sweet would chop her head off and eat her as soon as feed her by hand. All the animals are loving creatures and deserve our care and affection imo.
