Are these guys more than just a mainstream band? One day I was cruising with my car to the work and this song came wrom the radio. It instantly affected me with its lyrics.

Check the video and lyrics and decide:

Music Video
(is there anyway I can embed it so people can watch it right in this post?)

One more depending on a prayer
And we all look away
People pretending everywhere
It's just another day
There's bullets flying through the air
And they still carry on
We watch it happen over there
And then just turn it off

(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
We must stand together
(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
There's no getting even
(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Hand in hand forever
(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
That's when we all win
(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
That's, that's, that's when we all win
That's, that's, that's when we all win

They tell us everything's allright
And we just go along
How can we fall asleep at night?
When something's clearly wrong
When we could feed a starving world
With what we throw away
But all we serve are empty words
That always taste the same

(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
We must stand together
(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
There's no getting even
(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Hand in hand forever
(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
That's when we all win
(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
That's, that's, that's when we all win
That's, that's, that's when we all win

The right thing to guide us
Is right here, inside us
No one can divide us
When the light is nearly gone
But just like a heartbeat
The drumbeat carries on

And the drumbeat carries on
(Just like a heartbeat)

(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
We must stand together
(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
There's no getting even
(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Hand in hand forever
(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
That's when we all win
(Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
That's, that's, that's when we all win
That's, that's, that's when we all win

My honest opinion? Cashing in.
Soulless, talentless bunch of corporate puppets. I wouldn't be surprised if they saw a few Occupy movements and thought "How can we market to them?".

The lyrics do have a nice ring to them. Though in saying that, christian fundamentalists could as easily use that song in their "Anti gay" views as the lyrics are vague.

"The right thing to guide us
Is right here, inside us
No one can divide us
When the light is leading on
But just like a heartbeat
The drumbeat carries on".

The song is too vague, and I really do believe it's just another sell out "the kids will like it!" type of bland rubbish.
IMO.

The lyrics I posted first were wrong, it should be:

"When the light is nearly gone"

But yeah I undestand and see your point. I myself see this song as a very inspiring one.

There are many bands with conspirological lyrics.

The only thing I see wrong with the song is all the "yeah yeah yeahs"

It would sound much cooler with

"oh oh ohs"

It's just more audio garbage from a band that has no right to be where it is today.

Nickelback is proof that you just need to be in the right place, at the right time and with the right hooks to become famous.

hard to see you having a point with the OP,could you clear that up?
while you are at it and bashing bands where there is personal choice to listen or not, what has your annual gross $$$ been over the last 12 years.

Clear what up?

And who cares about how much money they've made? It's very easy to rise to the top when your only contenders are has-beens and also-rans.

canadian songwriters are alot different than self-centered immoral american songwriters.

nickleback has ALWAYS written music about the current events....actually thats what music was originally about (60's music) until the powers that be came in with their nefarious agenda.

Aren't most bands that get signed a product of being in the right place, at the right time, with the right hooks?

It's a possibility.

If true, this is one fight I want TPTB to win.

Haha. So you found some S**d music. You are just scratching the surface. You might wanna start reading the texts to the music you listen to. You might be supprised by the message.

Here is some artist that you might wanna take an extra look at:
system of a down
linking park
robbie williams
red hot chili peppers
takida
counting crows
creed
sia
eminem
30 Seconds To Mars

Scratch everyone off that list except Em.

And maybe the Chili Peppers.

As far as talent and substance.

Well, I must point out that millions of folks, including me, happen to like Nickelback (and they are from my neck of the woods), so they must be doing something right.

No one can like everything...but I did feel obliged to put in my 25 cents.

Or is it a buck now?

I want my nickel back.

Namaste.

As far as mainstream goes, they are IMO the most talented band out there, excellent song writer(s) and are very tight live. Are they fighting TPTB? Absolutely not! Nobody who is rich is, because nobody who is rich needs to! I wish people would understand this, nobody and I mean nobody, who has millions in the bank cares about any of us lonely working class folk.

I try not to rule anyone out, but I know for a FACT Chad Kroger has a thing for trying to fight non cons. He was called out on the radio in MD by one (after talking smack about him). Drove down to the radio station when they were in town on the tour, made a bunch of noise, the non con dj said lets go, Kroger backed down.

I guess im saying if they are seeking genuine redemption, thats great. If they are just trying to make more worthless paper, well then you know how I feel about that heh.
