China military warns of confrontation over seas

China's government doesn't rule by consent of her people. It doesn't rule by even a notable minority. It holds itself in place by force so, anything that appears to overcome its will internationally, threatens it (eventually) from within. This is why, oil aside, Taiwan is important and why absurd claims around the Philippines are holding so much attention in Beijing.

The communist party is slowly being eroded from within... by a billion Chinese people who have discovered just a small margin of liberty. And while our own freedoms are being gradually rolled back here in the west, and our national constitutions decommissioned bit by bit, what we call a burgeoning national security state is still... or would be an incredible measure of freedom to them.

Liberating mainland China may be impossible in this lifetime... but it can be a reminder to the rest of us of just how bad it could... or might someday be for us.

If Texas or any other state of the UNION should wish to succeed, it is there right under the United States Constitution. Foreign governments aside, our federal government should recognize this fact and they probably would if they were not rogue..........

Everyone knows someone who they consider to be a "waste of resources."

Humanity's problem isn't one of worthiness or unworthiness. Of supplies or strain upon them. The problem humanity has is so many people being ignorant to the irrelevance of their genius.

Everyone thinks they know how to solve the problem (or, at least, how not to solve the problem). Some problems can only be solved if the vast majority resolve to a single solution. Since this will simply never happen outside of hive-minds; such problems will never be resolved.

One of those is that of war.

Another is complacency - the tendency to stagnate one's personal growth and development (which, when prevalent through enough individuals, results in a complacent and stagnant society that merely exists).

I imagine at least a few Taiwanese believe that their homeland was stolen by the PRC.

I mean, its a matter of survival. Look around you. The ratio between population and resources is beginning to become unbalanced. Industries continue to produce coal fueled machineries while the reserves are in the jeopardy of reaching its final drop. Farmlands and mountains were converted to subdivisions and leisure parks. Food chains begins to loose its pattern. Nations are willing fight not only for their honor, but for their life-giving resources. Imagine a pack of hungry wolves fighting for the last piece of meat. They will loose cooperation. Thats what will happen in the near future.

This is far from the truth. Proven resources exist to supply the world with coal for the next 100 years, easily, at the current demand - with China's coal demand reaching peak logistical capacity. They will have to switch to nuclear just to yield logistical capacity to other resources.

Demand can be driven down, considerably, by changes in construction (such as subterranean construction that will reduce climate control energy expenses by enormous amounts - easily half of our power consumption could be shaved away the world over).

Natural gas is virtually untapped in many parts of the world; and oil is in about the same shape as coal - proven reserves capable of supplying for nearly a hundred years.

We have plenty of solutions on the table. We need to get out of the alarmist, panic-stricken mode of operation and start making very deliberate, calculated shifts toward more practical and sensible power infrastructure (Hint: Solar is not the silver bullet. Wind is not the silver bullet. Hydro is not the silver bullet. Nuclear is the closest to a silver bullet we have - as they can be, almost literally, built in place of current coal plants and provide more power with less logistical strain and far less pollution).

Crop yields are far in excess of what is necessary to supply the world's food demands. The problem is in the logistical supply of organics to remote locations, as well as getting farmers to break old habits that result in unnecessarily wasted crops.

Hydroponics setups can also be integrated with a number of private and public installations to provide supplemental food sources.

That said - nations will not be fighting over resources out of specific need for them... but because control over them will secure economic power and dominance. China claiming the Spratleys will bolster their economic standing in the world and give them an edge as they begin to tap those resources to fuel their expansion - either directly or via economic proxy.

i really doubt the chinese are stupid enough to do anything about this training exercise. their navy is puny compared to the US. China's just waving their pecker in the air trying to get attention.
