The 2 man crew ejected but the pictures at the apartment complex look pretty bad.

One of the reasons I love ATS - members post before it even hits the news cycles. I saw this thread before I had an alert from Rueters. Well done!

Edit to add: They are stating that one whole apartment section was leveled.

I probably put it in the wrong forum or something anyways because I got no replies or anything. Meh, at least the news is out.

Ontopic: Crazy to have this happen, hope nobody got hurt and that we get answers in a swift and reasonable manner. So far no news of anyone getting hurt and all family/friends are okay.

Thanks for bringing this to the forum.

I understand the fire is under control. I shudder to think of any people caught in this mess.

Being that today is Good Friday, I'd imagine that there would be at least some people off from work for the day. I hope there was nobody home.

Any sources say why the pilots ejected, or if there were some sort of problems with the jet?

Just read the plane was in flames in the air, and that is why it was in distress.

“There was flames coming off the back … The plane got lower and lower
and just as I turned … it crashed. " usnews.msnbc.msn.com...

Thanks! I'm on a mobile device and have a hard time reading the articles.

I just hope there were no fatalities.

Okay that is odd. An F-18 crashed in Lemoore, CA exactly a year ago, killing 2.
What are the odds???

I thought planes crashing into buildings made them turn into tiny pieces and that the engines disintegrate, thats what happened with flight 93 afterall. If you showed me this picture without a title id probably say " looks like an f18 crashed into an apartment complex". cant say the same about the pentagon pics tho.

also, would the 2nd explosion 2 mins later indicate that there were bombs on the plane? cause it seems to me that the fuel tank would explode on impact, not 2 mins after the crash.

I can't imagine that if they were just on training exercises that they would be carrying a full payload of missiles. The secondary explosion could have been anything from a gas line rupture to someone's propane grill going up.
