I just saw all this. I went out on back porch with a pair of 7 x 50's to let Cat out and do a little stargazing when I noticed what I would call a "handlebar" contrail. I had no idea this launch was tonight and thought they had already done it or it was to be done from Florida.

It instantly caught my eye as the sky was crystalline.

As I watched it I saw several other trails and could see one was being laid down as I watched.

I had my blackberry and also my blackberry PlayBook handy and was cursing the fact that I couldn't get an image to show on either device despite how bright this spectacle was.

I am an avid skywatcher to put it mildly, and was very aware I was seeing something very unusual.

Location Milford De.

I was looking for navigation lights at the tip of the pulsing contrail and was actually getting a bit alarmed at not seeing them.

Then I remembered the launch and thought that might be it.

Ats did not let me down....too cold out to check while out there.

End result was two "d" shaped rings that gradually faded to nothing.

Top 5 nutty aerial spectacles I,ve ever seen, and reminded me of Hale-bopp at one point.

So wind pattern tests are... successful. And now we know the wind is... still in the atmosphere.
