OhOh.....

Enemy ships beware !

Published: Feb 4, 2012 20:49 Updated: Feb 4, 2012 20:59 -- Arab News.com

TEHRAN: Iran has begun mass production of an anti-ship cruise missile, state television’s website said on Saturday. The Zafar missile, as it is dubbed in the report, “is a short-range, anti-ship cruise missile capable of destroying small- and medium-sized targets with high precision.”

It can be mounted on speed boats and other light vessels, can withstand electronic warfare, and is able to fly in low altitudes to avoid detection, the report said.

Iran has a fleet of speed boats that often challenge US and allied warships in the Gulf. The vessels are usually controlled by the elite Revolutionary Guards and can be equipped with missiles.

The Islamic republic says it has a wide range of missiles. It says some are capable of striking targets inside Israel as well as Middle Eastern military bases of its other main archfoe, the United States.

^^^^(YouTube Caption):

Iran is mass-producing a ballistic missile which can travel at more than three times the speed of sound and hit targets on the high seas, a top commander said on Monday.

Commander Mohammad Ali Jafari, who heads the elite military force, the Revolutionary Guards, said the missile had a range of 300 kilometres (185 miles).

He said the missile was "undetectable and can't be neutralised by enemies," without specifying the name. "It has very high precision in destroying targets," Jafari added.

Are Todays Reports Actually Old Information ??

Here's a question for you, a country like Iran, who is obviously no where near afraid of anybody, who likes to show off their weaponry and military might at every turn, wants to hide the fact that they're building a nuclear weapon?

Does that make any sense?

not so great for anybody stupid enough to defend the red, white and blue.

join the military to defend your nation, not to be part of an imperial invasion force, murdering people 15,000 miles from your home, for corporate, political and elitist reasons.

I think they have either changed the name of the missile or the report has got it wrong, but the video you posted is identical the one they showed in 2011 of the Khalij Fars missile. The specs and the quote by Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari is identical as well, so it is safe to assume they are one and the same...

english.farsnews.com...

That said, I dispute all of Irans claims about the missile. Firstly, they claim it is radar controlled, but I suspect they mean that the target info is acquired by shore radar and then fed to the missile, as it has an inertial guidance system (combined with an electro-optical system for the terminal phase).. Now, the video shows it attacking a stationary barge that they knew the position of, how good is it against a moving target when the guidance is inertial?

I have read reports that the angle of attack of the terminal phase would be around 45deg at maximum range, meaning the optical guidance has to kick at around 12km for the maximum range, which begs the question how good can it be at such a range on a moving target that has left the initial contact area the inertial guidance was set for?

This missile is based on the older Fateh 110 which uses only intertial guidance, but shares a lot of the same specs as it's offspring.

This new missile is not radar guided in the slightest, so that is a major drawback already. Secondly, it can and will be detected by any aggressor air defence destroyers and ones the USN and RN employ are specifically geared up to fighting ballistic missile threats, amongst others.

The Iranians are making a lot of fuss over a missile that is rather primitive in comparison to what the best navies in the world are prepared for. I suspect there is quite a bit of national chest thumping on their part and the actual combat effectiveness of this missile is questionable at best.

Oh good. Iran uses a slightly better version of Somali Pirates in Speed Boats with kalashnikovs.

Actually these missiles are just a ruse, aimed at distracting the U.S from their real weapon: The suicide-divers with bomb belts, able to magnetically attach themselves to the hulls of any ship/submarine and detonate themselves.

With all the paranoid Media hype about the huge threat Iran represents i dont blame them at all for mass producing any defensive weopons they can, they know they are being stitched up by western Media as the devil and they know its all about their resources so they have every right to produce as many weopons as they like

The US is used to being the ones shooting missiles at targets.
Will be strange for them when missiles are fired back.
In Iraq, Afgan, US soldiers deaths came in ones and twos.
Be different if they came in hundreds, I wonder how the Warmongers back home will take that.
