Uranus isn't visible to the naked eye. But yes, the "star" referred to is Venus. Brightest object in the night sky atm apart from the Moon.

Planets appearing as small discs and with more details depending on the telescope is indeed pleasant but galaxies and nebulae would not appear colorful the way they appear on pictures made from space.
