I was hoping to show someone this image after seeing a thread on ATS.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

That is the original post, but I felt that the political rivalry of pro-occupy and anti-occupy was really an off-topic kinda thing, maybe it's not supposed to be in this forum particularly, but I did not to waste effort on burning a flag that is merely a post about flag burning.

Not so much "yay flag burning!" but the flag burning will not be stopped! Who thinks I should march right up to popsmayhem [OP of thread] and show him this image? Who thinks that it will not solve anything?

Anyways, I hope to create more images like this in the future, using ATS boards as a sort of digital canvas, I will let members tell me what they think of this first piece before I continue however.

It wasn't until I fully scrolled to the right that I got it.

Prepare for the naysayers, but it does make a statement.

Thanks, keep an open mind when you look at some of my art. More flamey things? imgur.com...

imho art gets a pass. art is not always pretty, it is provocative, shocking, disgusting even. art exists to reflect the society it comes out of and to wake people up to what is going on in that society.

I like it! It is a burning of a burning!

Love the concept!

Although to me it says, I just burnt those who burnt me.

Instead I warm my hands upon the flames of the flag
To recall the downfall
And the businesses that burned us all
See through the news and the views that twist reality

Enough
I call the bluff
F*** Manifest destiny

Landlords and power whores
On my people they took turns
Dispute the suits I ignite
And then watch 'em burn

Interesting.

So can you explain the symbolism in the fact that the image is reversed?

I could see that perhaps being interpreted in a few different ways, but would prefer to have the artists perspective.

Thanks!

It was how I manipulated the photo, I had a 2D representation of the post, it was flipped around when I changed the view it had from slightly fading towards a horizon; I can make it again, flipped over the right way I was just uninterested in doing like, two seconds of work to make it left-right instead of how the plugin in Paint.NET made it. There was no real thought to it being reversed, but if you want it just adds to the fact I disagree with the statement made about burning flags.

I did consider flipping it upside down, to show a sort of distress when national flags are displayed upside down for the reasons of showing distress, but thought better of it and made my image quickly, rather than take too much time considering the small details like that.

I didn't even put the ball on top of the flag pole, it should speak to how quickly I made this image.

OK.

I just sort of thought it was a bit symbolic of how backwards the thought process of this action is.

Combined with the waviness, makes it
distorted and backwards

(seemed to me it was an intentional statement, if not, I still feel it adds to the piece)

Well done.

Indeed.

Also funny how 20 years later those lyrics are still oh so relevant.

It could be yes...

I think also

Movements come and movements go
Leaders speak, movements cease
When their heads are flown
'Cause all these punks
Got bullets in their heads
Departments of police, the judges, the feds
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
You know they went after King
When he spoke out on Vietnam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

Also related... the media brainwashing of people.

They load the clip in omnicolour
Said they pack the 9, they fire it at prime time
Sleeping gas, every home was like Alcatraz
And mutha fu*kas lost their minds

No escape from the mass mind rape
Play it again jack and then rewind the tape
And then play it again and again and again
Until ya mind is locked in
Believin' all the lies that they're tellin' ya
Buyin' all the products that they're sellin' ya
They say jump and ya say how high
Ya brain-dead
Ya gotta fu*kin' bullet in ya head
