Those are some nice pics

My favorite was the one that showed Mars, Phobos and it's shadow, and the craters.

All the other ones were nice too though.

Look at this neat round rock sticking out of the surface

Mars I see on the "official" pictures I used to see, it didn't have clouds visible.

Quite daring for NASA standards.

Its likely sandstorms from the polar area sublimation creating the surface havoc. I think more visible in the second picture.

Now wait a minute, I thought NASA doctored Mars to look pinkish butterscotch, so the ESA is in on this too!!??

1. Might I mention that these are lovely pictures.
2. Might I also mention that obviously these are not the direct data from the spacecraft, but clearly cropped, resampled and assembled in such a way as to present the data to the public in a pleasing way.
3. Might I also add that this is somebody's blog, not NASA.

You wouldnt think I'd have to mention those clearly plain facts, but moronic lunatics have accused Emily Lakdawalla of a "NASA photoshop coverup" in the past.

Yes Mars has an atmosphere, it's about 1% of our atmosphere. You have to consider the kind of distance you are viewing, and also consider the bright coma and tails so visible from comets are sparser than the best earth made laboratory vacuums we can create. Its not like you can grow anything there, visible sublimation on our atmospheric void the moon is more visible than that.

Deny Ignorance goes both ways.

NASA, ESA, and the community as a whole has known and spoken about the Martian atmosphere on numerous occasions. Including ground photos of high clouds. Its no secret. No photoshop fakery here.

It is still to thin to survive on however.
