Here's the exact quote, taped on a conservative cruise to the Mediterranean in 2009: "Last year, candidate Barack Obama stood on a sidewalk in Toledo, Ohio, and first let it slip to Joe the Plumber that he wanted to quote, 'spread the wealth around.' At that time, I have to admit, that I went on TV on Fox News and publicly engaged in what I guess was some rather mischievous speculation about whether Barack Obama really advocated socialism, a premise that privately I found rather far-fetched."
Did you even read that article? Mischievous speculation is not lying, admittedly its not what you would want in journalism. Even though he found it far fetched he went with it. If I heard someone say they wanted to spread the wealth around, I'd think socialist/communist, so its definitely not lying, spin it is.

Now I'm confuse how is spinning not a lie and how is an uncorrected mistake not a lie. Actually I love this uncorrected mistake thing - through a lie out there - gets called down - oops it was a mistake our bad, doesn't get called and it is pitchforks and torches.

Santorum voted for a large appropriations bill that included an earmark for the project, but there’s no evidence he specifically supported the museum.

Suppose he would do that, why is it a problem, when everybody else does, many of them in goverment provided private jets?

It's like the political commercial I cited earlier, put out by a pac against Santorum, that they are currently playing in SC. In the commercial, they say he voted to support a teapot museum. We all know that Santorum didn't actually champion this teapot museum...it was an earmark in an appropriations bill.www.politifact.com...

The ad is not a lie, because Santorum DID vote on legislation that included this teapot museum. The commercial spins it to sound like he's a teapot whacko, but they are not lying about his vote.
Unfortunately, how many voters don't understand that?
But ALL SIDES do it. Just wait until we have a Republican candidate vs. Barack Obama. Both sides are going to run some UGLY ads. Obama has a billion dollars to spend. It's going to be brutal.
