US Earmarks $235 Million for Israel's Defense Systems (Pentagon Only Asked for Half That)

More American tax dollars put to good use

WASHINGTON – The Unites States has announced it will allocate $235 million for the development of safeguards against rockets and missiles that could be launched towards Israel by Hezbollah and Iran.

A large part of the funds will go towards the development of the David's Sling system, designed to intercept medium- to long-range rockets and cruise missiles, and the Arrow 2 and 3 systems against long-range ballistic missiles.

This unprecedented sum comes at an unexpected time, while the American government is dealing with large budget cuts, including at the Pentagon.
However, Pentagon officials were the ones who requested that Congress approve a $106 million aid budget for Israel's defense systems against missiles, on top of the Iron Dome budget.

Congress chose to nearly double that amount, approving a budget of $235 million for 2012, amounting to $25 million more than in 2011.

This budget, however, is not considered to be part of the American aid to Israel, but rather, goes towards military cooperation between both countries, with each one allocating a similar amount in developing anti-missile systems.

The US' defense assistance to Israel is estimated at over $3 billion for 10 years, beginning in 2007, two-thirds of which end up in the hands of America's military industries.

If you're American, this news should make you angry, especially considering Israel's recent behavior. They refuse to freeze settlement expansion even though the Palestinians have been diplomatic and peaceful in their approach for peace.

They should be spending that money on domestic programs. This is another example of how the Israeli lobby runs the show in the U.S.

Obama is as obedient as any other president. Americans should stand up against this, or they can just bend over and take it like they're used to doing.

You would think after giving this nation over 100 billion dollars over the years it would be nice if we had gotten something for it. Because all we get now is to help support an illegal Apartheid State. But it's not a surprise when congress does things like this.

I agree, I hope this isn't so far off topic, but a lot of the people who support Israel, are the ones who bash OWS at every chance they get. I know this generalization does not apply to everyone, but it's fairly applicable.

War veterans are starving and not getting the medical attention they deserve, yet you're government is funding the Zionist war machine and allowing them to continue their Apartheid practices.

The Pentagon is forced to spend twice what it asked for....for a nation with domestic arms production and no need for anything but full rate price tags on anything we DO sell them. People have no mystery to follow in looking for where the U.S. Gov and Pentagon in particular, wastes money like it's water down a toilet.

The US gets the test data and drawings of all of the Israelis missile systems.

Israel has no long range testing areas so Israeli weapons testing is done in the US on US weapons testing ranges.
Many tests have been done a NWC China Lake complex.

Over the years the US has got a lot of equipment from Israel.

I have seen the complete SA-2/3 missile radar (low blow radar)system that Israel captured back in the 1970 from Egypt.
This radar system was brought to the NWC China Lake and used to develop jamming of SAM sites and improvements to the US Shrike, ARM and HARM missiles for the war in Vietnam.

A number of innovations are in use by the US Navy that come from Israel and there modifications of F-15s and F16s we sold them.

Even some of the RPGs rockets that the US has given to the afghan army are made in Israel as they are one country that makes better ones then the soviets did.

Even more recently, Israeli companies such as Soltam Systems have been selling arms to the United States.[1] Much of the military equipment undergoes improvements in Israeli workshops. In addition to weapons purchased overseas and indigenous products, Israel also operates and maintains large stockpiles of Soviet equipment captured from Arab armies over the course of the Arab-Israeli Conflict.

We have over the years got enough back in technical and other ways to pay for every things we have given Israel.

I am also sure that there are US radar sites run in Israel for tracking any missiles fired at the US or Europe from Iran as part of the US missile defence system.

Much of what happens between the US and Israel never gets to the media. because of problems that may become news like a couple years ago when the US was buying large amounts of 5.56 ammo and 7.62 ammo from Israel to make up for shortages in the US from the wars in Iraq and afghanistan.
some Arab groups objected to Israeli ammo being used on Arabs by US troops. when the Israeli ammo was being use in the US for training only(at least that is what the US claimed but its not hard to change a head-stamp on a cartridge from a Israeli one to a NATO headstamp as they are being made).

Its always nice to hear that the few hundred dollars worth of taxes that are pulled from my pay EVERY WEEK gets to go everywhere else besides to the American citizen. Bunch of BS.

The .saddest of this is that it will be American and British soldiers who will fight the next war for Israel and will be using their own military equipment as before, Two reasons:

1) Blood of children of Abraham is too precious to risk it on the battlefield (Example: better to send chopper and fire a missile - who cares about collateral damage - they are only Arabs anyway than to send a few snipers and take the target - too risky, Precious children of Abraham may get hurt on the way out), Better use subhumans (us) to fight a war for Israel.

2) Equipment can get damaged. Chinese don't buy damaged equipment.

Most American voters supports Israel...thats why Congress increased aid. And Americans generally are not deceived by pro-Palestinian narrators who claim that Palestinians have been peaceful and diplomatic, when their actions over the years have proven to be the exact opposite. Many of those "settlements" that certain people like to whine about, are actually built on state owned land and land the Jews owned before Jordan cleansed East-Jerusalem and the West Bank of Jews in 48. Everybody whines about ethnic cleansing, and yet when it comes to the true natives of Judea, you all have no problem with ethnically cleansing the "West Bank" of Jews.

The Obama administration has a genuine dislike for Israel, and the US has never sent its soldiers to aid Israel in any war...including the wars where the Arabs invaded Israel like in 48, and 73. Unlike the US sending it's soldiers to die protecting the Saudis and Kuwaitis when Iraq invaded them in 91...Our soldiers are dying for the Gulf Oil states...not for Israel.

American and British soldiers have never died protecting Israel. In the 48 War, the Brits both supplied and led the Arab armies against the IDF under sir General John Bagot Glubb as commander of the Jordanian Legion. Um, the Israelis have sacrificed their soldiers many times, and the stronger army will never sacrifice its soldiers if it doesnt have to. It seems you are disappointed that the Jews has an advantage over their enemies, where they do not have to rely on ground troops, but instead on air strikes. Name one war the US fought for Israel?

I suppose Americans will just have to have bake sales to raise money for Palestinian Defense Systems. Like we did to provide good armor for our own soldiers.
