nobody except for YOU mentioned whether or not it would 'kill us'.
and we HAVE had the 'tech' to see it in the past... especially to see it's EFFECTS... in the 1800's there was a blast that knocked out the majority of the telegraph communications system across the US.
is it worthy of a panic every time we discuss it?
no
is it worthy of discussion and ideas on how we might minimize any negative effects which we've seen before?
yes.

arxiv.org...

This is in PDF format and the main site @ www.arxiv.org will take you to a wealth of files on Exoplanetary and Cosmic Astrophysics. Interesting site to say the least. The above link mentions the Carrington Effect. If it could happen in the 1800's, I'm quite sure that it could happen again in our lifetime.

That CME can first be seen from STEREO B at about 07:40 (on the 28th, UTC). There does not seem to have been a flare associated with it but there was a very weak flare at 06:21 from region 1361.
sdowww.lmsal.com...

It is not a halo CME and it appears unlikely that it will affect Earth at all.

There is an existing thread for this kind minor activity.
www.abovetopsecret.com...
If something extraordinary occurs a separate thread might be called for.

There is no such thing as "the Carrington effect".
The Carrington event was an extremely strong geomagnetic storm. Such events are thought to occur on average about every 500 years. A similar event could occur in two weeks, two years, or not for 200 years.
