All this has done is provide further proof the system is undemocratic as this should have been a free vote. Heck even the Green Party voted in favour of allowing us, the unwashed a say on the direction our country is heading.

ETA: It should be interesting to see how next years European Elections will pan out

Question is :
Why would there such opposition to a referendum. They are basically saying that the electorate are idiots.

Because they don't want to upset the gravy train?

Politics today seems to be more about lining your pockets than about principle or passion.

I am more interested in the outcome of a referendum on the particular issue, as it would have massive consequences.

As important a subject that EU membership is it has become almost secondary to the other issue at stake.
The three major political parties are intent on ignoring the will of the people and denying them the right to self-determination.
By using a three line whip Cameron has essentially said that MP's have a duty to follow party line rather than personal conviction or the wishes of the constituents that elected them.
The other major parties have done the same.

Do we elect MP's to represent our interests and wishes or to follow party line like sheep and dictate to the electorate.

It's about time the electorate had an increased say in the governance of this country and the current party political system which is undemocratic, unrepresetative and unaccountable abolished.

For Cameron to publicly state that he feels that he knows better than the majority of British people what is best for them shows just how much contempt he actually has for us.

Anyone who voted for the old parties was effectively voting for the removal of "Great" from "Great Britain", along with our independence and our pride. Honestly, did people really think Cameron would give us a vote?

They will give us a vote, but only when they have indoctrinated enough of the population through the educational system and the law to say yes. That way when people vote "Yes" it will only serve to justify the EU Dictatorship.

There's another reason for holding off the votes as well. When Parliment becomes as powerful as your local Parish Council, he can claim the reason he can't fulfil the rest of his "policies" is because he no longer has the power to do so and somehow blind the people by managing to blame it on Labour (equally traitorous).

Basically Cameron has stumbled onto Labours plans and thought "Hmm that's not a bad idea."

It saddens me that such a wilful disregard for the wishes of the British electorate is more or less accepted by even those who see exactly what it is because they believe that as Parliament has said it's so then there's nothing more we can do.

Bollocks.

We can change the system, take power from the political parties and their vested interests and give more power and influence directly to the electorate.

It is up to us to change the status quo.

Unfortunately I think far too many people enjoy talking about change but are in reality scared #less of it actually happening.

Politics in this country is broken. It relies on opposition parties being an oposistion.

What did we see?

A college boys club that puts party politics and personal advancement ahead of the wishes of those that elected them.

Finally why was this nonsense engineered? To deflect our attention from the true issues at hand. The collapse of capitalism and sham democracy.
