BREAKING: Atlanta Mayor to revoke executive order allowing Occupy Atlanta to stay in Woodruff Park

www.ajc.com

A mayor who said he's been more than reasonable and protesters who say they're undeterred by a heightened police presence faced off at City Hall today. About an hour later, police started facing off with "Occupy Atlanta" in Woodruff Park.
At a tense press conference that started at about 4:45, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said some people associated with Occupy Atlanta are on "a clear path to escalation" after an unauthorized hip-hop concert over the weekend and an incident in which a member of his

The story the mayor is telling is only 75% percent true! There is clear propaganda being slung here and now, we are sitting here being boxed in the park by metal fencing. I repeat, they are fencing us IN the park.

quick version: the mayors office put the hip-hop festival in a tail chasing situation the night before it was to kick off. the chief of security was required to be an APD officer, and the APD officer in charge, was barred from doing security. the form of payment for the permit for the show was paid for in the form of a check and the payment was accepted, then 2 days later, the city said that the payment form was invalid.

One last time, at this moment, we are being boxed in the park, and police presence is growing by the minute...

why the hell are they treating us like murderers or wild animals???

Stay strong and remain peaceful.

They are looking for an excuse to get violent on people, do not give it to them.

It's happening all over, the authorities are now beginning to feel threatened and their way of life is being challenged.

They are fencing off the area to raise concern and to raise emotions. Good luck.

obviously you didn't read the story, or my version. the concert wasn't a PART OF OCCUPY ATLANTA. but for SOME REASON they chose WOODRUFF PARK, one of the SMALLEST PARKS IN ATLANTA....

It's a damn setup. what don't you get about that?

The article said that they had police recruits setup barricades/fencing, etc. It seems to me that once they attempt to clear the park, they will funnel everyone to one or two exits and arrest all who come through.

This does not look good.

Aside from making themselves feel good, what have the occupy crowds accomplished besides costing the tax payers money that is desperately needed for the community? If you want the system to change, then vote for people who will change it. Start at the local level and work your way up. Replace EVERY elected official. If your movement is so strong it will be easy.

You may say you speak for the 99% but you don't. So go home and stop wasting the tax payers dollars. You are hurting the very people you talk about helping. Do you really think sleeping in a park and being an inconvenience to the local people is gonna work. In reality you are protesting against the very people who wrote the book on protesting. After they grew up they got rich and powerful. History will repeat itself, no matter how peaceful your intentions the protests will turn violent. It's inevitable.

Pack your stuff up and go home, get organized, and do it properly. If your movement is as popular as you think it is, it will be very easy to replace every elected official. But there is a big difference between hundreds of protestors and the hundreds of millions you claim to represent.

Me?
These Occupy 'movements', in each and every general locale, need to be aware of and conscioulsy conduct themselves in accordance with those laws and/or ordinances applicable.

NOT just those folks coordinating these events ... BUT ... AND ... more importantly, Those In Attendance!

The 6 Ps comes to mind.

Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

The only way a 'peaceful demonstration or protest' can remain so, WithOut police intervention/interaction is To Know The Law(s) ... and Adhere To The Same, ThroughOut ... peaceably.

I found this intersting article. Link

Occupy Atlanta, in support of Hip-Hop Day’s community and awareness focus, will remove all tents from Woodruff park to allow festivities; which include music, food and dynamic speakers, to take place uninhibited.

The Occupy movement had nothing to do with this Hip-Hop event. In fact, they moved out of the way for this event. It seems as though there is more to this story than what the mayor, Occupy or the media is saying.

technically, aren't they just occupying a park. would the mayor rather have them all move to the streets of downtown atlanta and hold up traffic.

go to a park that happens to have a few people walking their dogs legal. going to a park that happens to have hundreds of people holding signs, illegal.

it doesn't even make sense what's legal and illegal in america anymore.

it looks like the mayor would rather have prostitutes, johns, junkies, drug dealers and muggers occupy woodruff park instead of honest americans looking to change the system.

and voting for change acomplishes what?
when both sides of the isle rob you blind for the banks benifit,
then voting does not matter.

wake up and smell the corruption,
the illusion of democracy for all failing,
because democracy now only applies to the rich and the banks

voting is an illusion

Respectfully, my friend, here is the Law the People in Atlanta need to Know:

Paragraph IX. Right to assemble and petition. The people have the right to assemble peaceably for their common good and to apply by petition or remonstrance to those vested with the powers of government for redress of grievances.

~Georgia State Constitution Bill of Rights~

Any act of legislation, or any ordinance contrary to this Law is unlawful, unconstitutional and any attempts to enforce such legislation, or ordinance would be criminal.

A badge and a gun is not law, and if that badge and gun is being used to contravene laws, it is nothing short of thuggery. This thuggery has escalated the way it has because too many people advocate bogus acts of legislation that are unlawful and erroneously refer to them as "Law".

Legislation is not Law, at best, it is merely evidence of Law. At worst, it is criminal.

Obviously you do not understand that political elections are bought and paid for by corporations who basically choose (bribe would be a better word) the candidates.

You can't work within a system that is so corrupt! You need to start an entirely new system, and that is one of the key objectives of the Occupy movement!

try occupying a job.

these children need to pack up their iphones and go home. they are accomplishing nothing but pissing people off and scaring away normal people who might support something not ran by socialist extremist that are simply out to destroy capitalism with no plan on what to do next.

bunch of idiots.

Thank you for that clarification, Jean Paul ...

However,
My concern and noted desire was for all 'Occupy _______' movements to better acquaint themselves with local laws, regulations, guidelines and/or ordinances - prior to protesting

The vast majority of the YouTube 'We Got Shut Down / Police Brutality videos and outcries are and have been more due to individual ignorance of the above, imo

Peaceably Protest.
Stay On The Sidewalk
Don't Block Nor Hinder Traffic - Pedestrian Or Otherwise

Numbers speak Volumes ... much as a picture says a thousand words

And just who do you think you are ? Are you claiming to represent the majority ? Your opinion is just that, one opinion. It might seem to you that you're perfectly right in your perception of what's going on, but guess what...it's just your opinion and I find it distasteful that you are trying to make it appear that you represent anyone other than yourself. Who elected you spokesperson ? I certainly didn't. Who gave you the right to tell someone else what to do ? I certainly didn't.

Get your head out of your .....agenda....and realize that the world does not revolve around your opinion.
