Let's be honest, we all know the politicians are bought out, and for the most part we're ok with that because there is a belief that they can be funded by the corporations and do our will also....

... hold on.... do you realize the cognitive dissonance in that?

Yet that's what many believe.

The cognitive dissonance has finally been seen for what it is... LIES!

What's going on now that's so different???

SCALE.

Their greed knows no bounds and has gotten out of hand. We are being pumped and dumped like they have done over and over to 3rd world countries. Their arrogance is getting the better of them and they have awakened the sleeping masses.

I'm working on a video on this interviewing people at my local occupy. Here is the trailer:

Great video. Ya, I learned a long time ago you can tell what they're gonna do if you just follow the money. I knew Bush was corrupt with his ties to Wall Street, Halliburton, oil companies, etc. I knew Obama was going to follow his lead (plus more) because he had Wall Street plus big union backing. And I discovered earlier this week the big Wall Street money was switching to the Romney camp, so we know what we can expect from him if he gets the win. Getting the money out of politics is the only way we'll ever get real results from our representatives. It's a rigged system.

Hear hear! I too am quite aware of the politician's money grabbing tactics, and am also aware that once one becomes a politician, they become rich, and that is why they deem to stay in office. I fully support this movement, and contrary to what some are saying, these are not "hippies," and "druggies," these are Americans who are damned tired of the banking cartel running the government from behind closed doors, and taking from the working class so much they can no longer support their families. More power to them!

Damn right they are pissed!
They didn't get what they paid for!

They bought those politicians with cash.. and they expect to get their money's worth.
I love it. It shows even Banks can't trust politicians!~!

I hate to be the overthinker / paranoid one here but:

What if governments are purely pretending to support the movement and bankers are purely pretending to be angry to fool us into thinking they're moral people?

I have the niggling suspicion that politicians don't have balls like that.
Opinions?

"Big union backing" - oh. Simply terrifying.

Well, hearten up; the unions are with OWS. From my own all the way to those right-wing nuts in the Teamsters. Obama can keep the bankers, or he can keep the unions. he's not going to be able to hold both very well.

He's going to keep the bankers because - your panic notwithstanding - there's no such thing as "big unions" anymore. Thanks, fellow voter!

People hate Unions because they're a Democratizing force and give voice and power to the normal citizen. The people that Unions benefit and are for have been trained to see them as evil though, quite clever on behalf of big government and industry to do that.

People hate unions because unions destroy companies. Unions began as a noble concept with good intentions but, like our government, they have become corrupt. The only people who think they're good are the members who benefit. Meanwhile customers get screwed with higher prices and a crappy product because union entitlements drive up costs and decrease quality and productivity.

That would not surprise me at all. Government officials pretend to support the OWS, cursing them under their breath while telling the bankers not to fear.

This is EXACTLY why the people should not back down, and should keep up the OWS movement indefinitely. It is the ONLY way that the people can do anything. Voting differently, writing congressmen, etc. isn't going to get ANYTHING done.

I say keep it up and keep them afraid. I just posted in another thread how the crap is rolling downhill, from the bankers to the politicians. That is how we know we are getting to them, and may even have them worried. Good job America, and the world.

I LOVE the declaration! I had not seen it yet, thanks for posting. I agree, they will probably have to lose some that not everyone will agree with, but boy they said it all and said it right! I was literally yelling "Yes! Yes! This is awesome!" out loud while I was reading it. Oh yeah, and a couple fist-pumps to go with my yelps. And I especially like the last bit:

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that IF the PETITION OF GRIEVANCES approved by the 870 Delegates of the NATIONAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY in consultation with the PEOPLE, is not acted upon within a reasonable time and to the satisfaction of the Delegates of the NATIONAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY, said Delegates shall organize a new NON-PARTISAN INDEPENDENT POLITICAL PARTY to run candidates for every available Congressional seat in the mid-term election of 2014 and again in 2016 until all vestiges of the existing corrupt corporatocracy have been removed by the power of the ballot box.

To anybody who is about to post a knee-jerk reply in the negative - I highly suggest you read it, it's well worth the few minutes it will take. Here's the link again, so you don't have to go back to the OP to find it: 99% Declaration

I haven't heard too many arguments against the actual messages and complaints coming from the protesters. The primary one is "they should be protesting DC and the lawmakers, not wall street", but that's not really a valid complaint IMO.

There are two main elements to this issue: the big bankers/corporations that spend millions to corrupt our politics, and the politicians who accept this money and are corrupted. So in reality those people share the belief that there is an issue with our government, but they just disagree on the solution.

Then there are the people who don't address the core things that the protesters are against, but instead put an offensive label on them. Calling them anything from Obama supporters, communists, socialists, Marxists, anarchists, to nazis. So by calling attention to the opinion shared by a small minority of the protesters, they seem to conclude that there is no credibility to the protests and the people are all wacky and different.

I can see where some of them are coming from though; they're so used to the status quo that anything which goes against it is unnatural to them. Highlighting a tiny percentage of the protesters that aren't your ideal American citizen makes them feel more secure about their lingering fears that this country is in a state of corruption and oppression. Or maybe they are aware of that, but they just really don't care.

I also have a hard time understanding how people can oppose the protests, the're just looking out for the large majority of Americans whose standard of living is declining while the wealthy elite get richer and richer. Numbers don't lie. So even if you are disappointed at the lack of the protesters rallying around one key issue, having leadership, or aligning perfectly with your political affiliation, try to understand that we're trying to fix some of the most severe problems that this country has ever faced.

Yeah, I know unions are now behind OWS. That's another reason I won't support it. OWS will fail soon anyway.

Unions began as a noble concept with good intentions but, like our government, they have become corrupt. Workers unions bankrupt the organizations they work for (look at the UAW). The only people who think they're good are the members who benefit. Meanwhile customers get screwed with higher prices and a crappy product because union entitlements drive up costs and decrease quality and productivity. If unions disappear, and I hope they do, it will be because they were unsustainable to begin with. They collapse under their own weight.

Excuse me, every member of my family except myself have been employed in the Auto Industry. (I was the liberal arts nerd) and it is not the unions that were behind the demise of that once-world-leading segment. Sure they had a role, but there was a greater factor. It was (drumroll, please) planned obsolescence and poor quality in the face of people intelligent enough to know it was intentionally created to bilk them of their hard-earned dollars. My father was an engineer for Ford, later for GM, later for Peterbilt, and later for Saturn, etc. He won many engineering excellence awards from the SAE. He told me once, that the saddest day of his life was when he saw with his own eyes the memo from head office to the effect of:

To the Engine Development Division: the 351 Cleveland is a good engine, but thorough tests have shown it to be too durable. After 100,000 miles of test driving the bearings and cylinder walls hardly showed any wear. You are to loosen tolerances in wear-critical areas, to enable our parts department to keep sales up.

Since then, he had a hard time keeping a positive attitude about the industry he had chosen as his career, which lasted another 30 years.

Here's another one for you: my mother bought a brand-new Dodge Monaco SE in 1978. Driving home after her first day at work with the new car, the front brakes stopped working completely. She was outraged, and rightly so. The car they gave her as a "trade-up" to keep her as a customer, a Chrysler LeBaron coupe, rusted out in less than 2 years. Once, my father returned to work at the assembly plant where they built Mavericks after a weekend. One of the cars has already a rust bubble on the door under the lock cylinder. He put a key right through it. The freakin car hadn't even been fully built yet! There has never been an excuse for profiteering through shoddy workmanship, and I'll stand behind my statement that it was arrogance and greed that caused the downfall of the american auto industry.

Going to church does not make you a good person and in fact there are many greedy men who go to church.
With all due respect I am put off reading the rest of the reply because I don't support emoticon abuse
