That's the thing, most politicians start out with good intentions and naively think that they can make a difference and change the world... and then they get somewhere and get a taste of power, or start to see that really, they don't have as much sway... or... see that a lot of money can be made by allowing business/corporations to do things they shouldn't.

Who knows, as you say, he may well be the real deal, the best ever politician.... sure seems like it.

Ron Paul, wanted full default!!! You do get what would have happened had we fully defaulted? We would not have just gotten 1 downgrade, like everyone here complained about so much.. We would be Russia in 86!!

Its not all RP ideas, but some of them just moronic... And you who sit here and ignore that some of his ideas moronic just as bad as those who down RP for things he didnt do.

Why is it the duty of the USA to be the World's police? Why the hell is it our job to clean it up in 10 years?

He never suggested letting Iran have a bomb, that's how it's spun. He attacked the need for America to continue policing the world and getting into non-stop illegal wars. Do you forget who actually created the bomb, and used it twice?

"Paul said it is natural for Iran to want a bomb as it is surrounded by countries such as India, Pakistan and Israel which all have one and with China, the United States and Russia all involved in the region. He said the U.S. should not get involved in the country’s internal affairs."

"He also said that during the Cold War we still spoke to the Soviet Union, and we should have dialogue with the mullahs too. “This is likely to lead to a sixth war,” said Paul. “Yes they have some militants in Iran, but they are all around the world. Iran can’t reach America, they don’t even have an air force. Iran can’t even make enough gasoline for itself.”

"He accused the other candidates of warmongering. “They are building this case just like they did in Iraq, with war propaganda. There was no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, I bet you supported that too,” he said, as Santorum nodded, agreeing he had."

“It’s time to quit this” added Paul. “It’s trillions of dollars we are spending.”

Do you understand why he pushed for a Default? You really think raising the debt ceiling saved us? Really?

"The alternative to defaulting now is to keep increasing the
debt ceiling, keep spending like a drunken sailor, and hope that
the default comes after we die. A future default won’t take the
form of a missed payment, but rather will come through
hyperinflation. The already incestuous relationship between the
Federal Reserve and the Treasury will grow even closer as the
Fed begins to purchase debt directly from the Treasury and
monetizes debt on a scale that makes QE2 look like a drop in the
bucket. Imagine the societal breakdown of Weimar Germany, but in
a country five times as large. That is what we face if we do not
come to terms with our debt problem immediately. "
