In 1991, Voted To Slash Over $3 Billion From Defense, Shift Money To Social Programs. Only 27 Senators joined Kerry in voting for the defense cut. (H.R. 2707, CQ Vote #182: Motion Rejected 28-69: R 3-39; D 25-30, 9/10/91, Kerry Voted Yea)

Yes, that vote happened in the middle of the recession of 1990-1991 where people lost their jobs... till G.H.W. Bush lost his the following year for not understanding that Americans weren't concerned about how well the US was doing abroad, but how unwell they were doing at home.

HR 3807, 11/25/1991: Vote on an amendment authorizing defense funds to assist the Soviet Union with the dismantlement of nuclear weapons. Kerry voted YES.

During the 90s, it was widely known that the Soviet, then Russian military no longer had the resources to dispose of weapons efficiently, and worse - they no longer had the resources to account and keep watch of those weapons. Dispatching defense experts to help the Soviets made perfect sense, and it prevented Soviet weapons from falling into the wrong hands.

I'll comment on more later, must take time out for supper.

Nah, lets take on the world instead... You guys are idiots, you don't think five minutes ahead of yourself.

Ahem there was a coaliton. Kerry's plan smacks of Kowtowing to the French. make sure we suck up to them before we do anything in our national interest.

We are at war thats why its smart to spend on defense. Also Bush spent more money on education then Clinton did. But just pouring more money into education isnt the answer, less and less money is getting to the children were it belongs. This seems to be due to problems at a state level the goverment is spending the money but the states are stopping it in red tape or something. Thats were the real problem lies

Kerry and strong defense, that's a contradiction of terms. Kerry is more concerned about France and Germany than he is about getting a brutal dictator out of power. Kerry's idea of a strong defense is have good shoes on so we can run like the French. It's no wonder that Kerry is the favorite of France.

Defence protects our way of life. Defence provides jobs. Defence research develops such usefull things as the Internet, Lasers etc. Spending money on a strong defence does not mean going to war. And you never can negotiate (unless you want to surrender like the French) from a position of weakness.
