CIA Influence On Mass Media: How Disinformation Campaigns Work

In these 3 videos, we have former-CIA officers, and journalists explain, how Disinformation Campaigns work, it gives a good insight on how easy it is, to confuse and Influence world situations, via news agencies, feeding them into ticker tapes of western media, that are all trying to be first to get a good story, and that they only have to feed one news agency (IE: Reuters) with a propaganda piece, and most of the other news agencies, will blindly run with it.

Fred Bridgland, former angloa correspondent for Reuters, admits most of the official statements, put out, were completely false, he also says most of the time they could publish any old crap they like, and it would get news paper coverage, and get picked up and published by other news agencies, he also goes on to say, people are very silly if they believe everything they read in the news, and you have to learn how to read the news, to get a hint at whats really going on.

John Stockwell ex CIA -Commander, talks about how they would make up story's for the press, of rapes and torture, and murder of woman for talking out about there rapes, and even put out pictures of dead woman, when none of this was true, and was made up to vilified a certain side.
He also goes on to say, he left the CIA in the end, because of principles, and he was sick of the US supporting brutal dictatorships, forming and training them.

David MacMichael former CIA Analyst says those in foreign policies establishment, believe that in the interest of national policies, it is legitimate to lie to the people, and its not classed as being dishonorable to lie, and are infact expected to be rewarded for lying well.

It also explains, how they create someone to be a boogieman.

Part 3

I've made this thread, for those who are interested, on how the media is Influenced, to suit a agenda.

Good thread
Obviously it's not just the CIA who do this, but also MI5 and other intelligence services. The recent fake dead Bin Laden pic was a good esample of the lazy journalism which goes on daily, picking up stories and running them without any research. It makes you wonder just how many legitimate investigative journalists are left
as most just seem happy to plagiarize from other sources these days.

It's shameful how these intelligence services manipulate the news through MSM. Unfortunately most people take it all as the gospel truth.

You raise a good point, about investigative journalists, most that i know of, seem to be under a hate campaign, like Thierry Meyssan, Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya, James Petras, and many more i could go on to mention.

I think lazy journalism has the internet to blame, and its the reason the media can be manipulated so easy by certain powers, to suit a agenda.

And i agree intelligence agencies like MI5 and DGSE also use media manipulation, but the CIA has it mastered.

I have this nostalgic image of journalists in long macs, trilbys, notepad and pencil in the pocket, running through the rain to get to some clandestine meeting (not sure where I got that image), now I imagine him sat at a desk all day, getting all his juicy details online. Like you said, once it's posted to Reuters who's going to question it

Below is perhaps one of the worst pieces of journalism I've ever seen (sadly mostly people will only read the headline, and take that as the end of 9/11 conspiracies):

uk.news.yahoo.com...

Obviously Yahoo gets a lot of people viewing it's stories each day. This was written by a 21 year old "freelance journalist", who would've been just 11 years old at the time

Great thread! The more awareness that can spread about the CIA's negative influence in western MSM the better, such as Operation Mockingbird. It's these lies that help the west start conflicts with other nations, and continues to this day..cough Libya cough..

Question though, is this thread supposed to be in the Middle East forum?

Thanks op..s&f to bump and bookmark..makes one wonder just who might secretly be behind the march on wall street .notice the guy behind Regan in the 3rd vid ?? A lie will always come out sooner or later ....I think the one to fit the liar would be this Tavistock ...well embedded into cia and other forms of manipulation and able to control the group....peace
"Formed in 1947, the Tavistock Institute is an independent not-for-profit organization which seeks to combine research in the social sciences with professional practice. Problems of institution-building and organizational design and change are being tackled in all sectors - government, industry and commerce, health and welfare, education, etc. - nationally and internationally, and clients range from multinationals to small community groups. A growth area has been the use of a developmental approach to evaluation of new and experimental programs, particularly in health, education and community development. This has also produced new training events alongside the regular program of group relations conferences. The Institute owns and edits the monthly journal Human Relations (published by Plenum Press) which is now in its 48th year, and has recently launched (in conjunction with Sage Publications) a new journal Evaluation.

Well i was in 2 minds to put this thread into the General Conspiracies forum, but at the last min, i put it here, in the Middle East forum, as to be fair, you get a more intelligence debate here, and this forum doesn't get trolled as much.

And my main reason for looking into disinformation campaigns, was dew to the Libya situation, and the blatant lies were all told.

Well as far as the wall street protest, i can't really comment living in London, i should image ,the only manipulation being taken place with the wall street protest, is to put as many idiots on the TV as possible, to down play it as a non event.

In the British media, we hardly see anything of the wall street protests, you have to do your own investigation, for any credible information.

But clearly intelligence agencies and news agencies, have been working in cohorts for a long time.

I think the CIA's had such an influential hand in recent Middle Eastern events it's certainly not out of place in this forum.

Excellent post bud. Even though I haven't seen those vids I have seen plenty on the CIA. Also to note is that tabloid newspapers were started by a big CIA guy

I always wondered about the "corruptibility" of Central News Agencies. To me AP always looked like some kind of candy bowl from which you pick whatever suits you or your culture to present.

It kind of shows when I see news on the net that make it to the newspaper a few days or even a month AFTER having read about it.

So most of the news are simply space fillers, an excuse to not make an in depth inquiry into any given subject of real matters, instead of sensationalism. ( It's nice to anyone with a short span of attention and lack of knowledge on complex matters... )

Also a good thing to note is that we receive our news from two kinds of people, one are journalists, and the others are reporters...

Why Were Government Propaganda Experts Working On News At CNN? 3/27/00

Reports in the Dutch newspaper Trouw (2/21/00, 2/25/00) and France's Intelligence Newsletter (2/17/00) have revealed that several officers from the US Army's 4th Psychological Operations (PSYOPS) Group at Ft. Bragg worked in the news division at CNN's Atlanta headquarters last year, starting in the final days of the Kosovo War.

Army 'psyops' at CNN

(March 03, 2000)

CNN employed active duty U.S. Army psychological operations personnel last year, WorldNetDaily has confirmed through several sources at Fort Bragg and elsewhere.
Maj. Thomas Collins, U.S. Information Service has confirmed that "psyops" (psychological operations) personnel, soldiers and officers, have worked in the CNN headquarters in Atlanta. The lend/lease exercise was part of an Army program called "Training With Industry." According to Collins, the soldiers and officers, "... worked as regular employees of CNN. Conceivably, they would have worked on stories during the Kosovo war. They helped in the production of news." ...

CNN has not thus far commented officially on the allegations. Megan Mahoney, a CNN spokeswoman recently said, "I don't believe that we would employ military personnel; it doesn't seem like something we would normally do." However, now that the U.S. Army Information Service has confirmed the news, Mahoney said she would have to contact CNN's senior officials.

Hmmm

been going on for sometime now.

Thanks Xuenchen, for a great contribution to the thread, that was a good read.

The symbiotic, intimate relationship between CNN and army psyops specialists has raised many eyebrows, with critics saying it raises doubts about CNN's journalistic integrity and independence.

Anderson Cooper was Langley trained in mockingbird. It pisses me off even more when I catch a glimpse of his BS motto "keeping them honest". Think about how fast we are separating from those around us, we become more aware and they become more brainwashed.

S&F OP, thanks for posting these. Once I had a better understanding of how the propaganda machine works, it became much easier to see it as it happens.

It's amazing how clear it all becomes. There's many times where I'm SO ANGRY at the media establishment for the half truths and falsities, that's hard to even talk to people about it.

And,

it's not illegal for the media to "lie".

A Fox station had legal issues with fired employees over "distortions" in a report.

The court case was long and complicated. Millions of dollars involved !

Result:

... FOX asserted that there are no written rules against distorting news in the media. They argued that, under the First Amendment, broadcasters have the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on public airwaves....

The court implied there was no restriction against distorting the truth. Technically, there was no violation of the news distortion because the FCC’s policy of news distortion does not have the weight of the law

Wheeew...... all ties in with "psyops"

What ARE we up against ?

read the article for details.

The Media Can Legally Lie !

I can't help but think how easy it was for the CIA to fabricate the whole Bin Laden story, including his death. Personally, I think they messed up when the Pentagon released the (only) video where "OBL" is confessing to the 911 attacks. The person in the video CLEARLY isn't OBL...though he does look like he could be related. Perhaps he was the "patsy" that they killed...and if the Seals actually did go in and kill "him", they wouldn't necessarily know the difference in the heat of the moment.
