Maybe they need more funding.

I am a little confused when they claim they can track space junk to 4 inches.....

Why can't they track this school bus sized satellite?

They can pick up space junk with powerful ground based radar when it passes over it. They can use that data to predict where the junk is going. They cannot and do not continuously track it.

0553 GMT (1:53 a.m. EDT)
NASA says it continues to wait for final confirmation of re-entry. "If debris fell on land (and that's still a BIG if), Canada is most likely area," the space agency just said.

Sounds like NASA's confirmation will come in the form of a phone call from a local fire department

As I understand it, yes they can track tiny objects, but not on every orbit.
USSTRATCOM have 20 radar units around the world, but they have to wait for an object to pass over one before they can check its position once more.
If, hypothetically, UARS did not pass over any of those 20 stations on its final orbit, they're just in the dark as everyone else.

The location is credible.
How about the source?

5 minutes before they said that they speculated it had "deorbited"

LOL

"Houston - aye, we got a problem" :-)

Not NASA's finest hour on this one. I think Armstrong's and Cernan's critique may have been strong, but probably close to accurate.

I believe anyone who think NASA is right is ignorant... NASA is funded by our Government, and our Government is nothing but lies....

Don't count on it. NASA isn't infallible and some sites seem to be tracking it still.

no the source is the Independent... The Independent uses NASA as a source and NASA refers to twitter reports as evidence.

The computer simulations may still be running but thats all they are, pre-programmed simulations, they could run for another 50yrs if no-one turns them off!
