And most people who listen to metal, are ignorant about world issues.
They also have never heard of a haircut and shaving before.

How do you expect, for there to be even any reform, when the worlds populace are ignorant, metal, rock, rap, country, pop listeners, who don't know what a haircut is, and who don't even know what shaving is.

I'm not "ignorant" about metal, metal is ignorant period.

LMAO, hahahahah im sorry but no, we are nothing alike.
That wasn't a scientific study, just a survey.

They found that music listeners had more in common with fans of the same music than with fellow citizens who listened to different styles of music.

Even on the useless SAT's, Classical music listeners, outscore the rest.

Look man, rap, rock, etc, are not music, they were created by TPTB, to dumb down people and turn them into idiots, why do you think society is so moronic?

Moronic, i would call moronic one who slights all others for not holding the views or likes held by the judge.

That logic is flawed.
It's like saying "I would call people with common sense, moronic, because they value education and learning instead of being delinquents "

Me hating something so useless, and ridiculous, something that causes people to de-volve, and go backward, such as metal, rock and rap, makes me moronic?
As you wish then.

Lets stop discussing,"music" and get back on topic.
So knock it of.

Video game "brain damage" claim criticised
Pretty old article, but looks like they've known about this since the start of the 2000's, looks like they've been keeping it hush.
I mean another use mentioned, about how the TV's flicker, is also responsible for decreasing beta brain wave activity, but i can't help but think TPTB, have pushed gaming, have you people seen all the tax cuts the gaming industry gets!

Alright so our brain produces frequency waves in response to our activities, this would vary so the brain waves fit those activites, such as when we play games, and watch tv.

Beta brain waves keep us alert, gives us our ability to concentrate and focus, its our normal state Alpha is for when our brain is resting, we are awake but we are chilling out Gamma waves is associated with intelligence Theta waves are for when we dream And Delta waves are for when we sleep

When u watch TV our brains make alpha waves, this is why we watch tv when we are chilling, we're resting....but see from all these studies....that feeling ends but our brain lacks alertness, concentration and focus, because out beta wave activity goes down, so really, it does "technically" make you dumber, by taking the life out of you, keep you in a zombie like state.

When we play video games, the same thing happens, we have a near 0 decrease in beta brain wave activity, and it stays that way long after we stop playing, this can last weeks.

Gaming and TV will make you dumber, by decreasing your high level of focus and cognitive thinking that could be used on learning.

Okay, this is ridiculous.

1st article - It shows the exact opposite of your assertion. There are cognitive improvements only.

2nd article - It's a study of rare mental disorders, like epilepsy. Video games are used to study the disorder. Utterly irrelevant.

3rd article - It shows a wide range of EEG signatures resulting from extended video game play. Large increase, followed by an equal decrease after game play ended, followed yet by a 2nd increase to levels higher than those in controls. In effect, it shows the opposite of your assertion.

4th article - Absolutely irrelevant. It's about studying ADHD, and the kids are given a specially designed video game hooked up to biofeedback monitors. The video game simply facilitates the BFB treatment.

5th article - Again, it only shows an increase in brain activity. No decrease. Albeit, the increase is in areas associated with addiction, ie. pleasure and reward.

You are an actual student, studying science no less, and this is how you develop your arguments? Anecdotal (read: made up on the spot) 'evidence' combined with scientific articles either irrelevant to your OP, or providing direct evidence that it's actually wrong. Go back to school.

I think you're quite judgmental.

If metal makes kids dumb, then why do so many smart kids listen to it? I'm talking about geniuses, not your average students.

I like doom and symphonic metal and neither have dumbed me down. I'm almost 30 and I honestly feel that listening to punk did more damage due to the political themes.

Please don't make such blanket statements. I like Bach but I prefer the sinister doom metal because it actually helps motivate me to do positive things.

Actually, you are ignorant for judging an entire musical subculture.

Many of my friends who listen to metal are intelligent, creative individuals that would be highly offended by your characterization of them.

I'll follow your example, drink a 50, and watch the game hurr hurr.
Much better than learning, go do what your told.

The reason why it's so hard to find evidence for this, is because all scientific research for this topic, is either scrapped, or ridiculed, the people who are in charge of these studies, could potentially lose their jobs, such as Japanese Akio Mori, a cranial nerve specialist at Nihon University College of Humanities and Sciences in Tokyo.
Who did one of the studies i linked.

Said the 19 year old. Am I mistaken, or were you not just all excited about a new FPS game? I know it wasn't a COD game... you're too smart for those. It couldn't have been a console game... Console games are beneath you... I'm certain that you will be calling anyone who disagrees with you illogical soon. Have fun little guy.

Video games disrupted by beta, gamma and alpha brain wave activity, and when i stopped playing it for a while, about 2 weeks later my activity returned to their normal frequency, and even increased.

Did you measure your brain activity before and after to come to this conclusion?? Or are you merely sucking this out of your thumb?

You claim many things here, with not much to back it up mate.

You appear to be rather judgmental, especially when someone does not agree with your theory. I can easily argue that videogames, music, tv, makes you SMARTER.

They are merely delivery methods, or tools for information...

A slightly off-topic question: Where does electronic music like happy hardcore, trance, house, dubstep and electro fall into this whole scheme of "musical taste = intelligence" exactly, because I listen to a fair amount of music from those categories yet I don't feel like I'm somehow brain dead because of it. I watched half a season worth of a TV series last night because I had to stay awake in order to adjust my sleep schedule, but I don't notice myself being mentally slow or anything like that. Ohhh I almost forgot I fairly regularly play World of Warcraft, Halo Reach, CoD: Black Ops, and a few other games as well, but still somehow can get certs and land a job for a major ISP so where is this missing intelligence supposed to go given my hobbies and taste in music?

Sadly man, the day and age we live in, we need a "herd" mentality, to fit in with a group, you seem like a smart guy, since you believe in reptilians?

If metal makes kids dumb, then why do so many smart kids listen to it? I'm talking about geniuses, not your average students.
No such thing...who are these "smart kids" who listen to it?
They don't exist.

Well see, you say your not dumbed down....but if you go back all those years, and instead of listening to metal, and listened to only classic....where do you think you'd be today?
You'd have a different herd of friends, would you even be on this site?

How can "sinister doom metal" help you do positive things?
Thats like saying, terrorist organizations help the community.

Wait a second here, let me drink in the irony. Okay. You're calling me dumb, for pointing out the horrendous flaws in your logic, as well as the utterly irrelevant nature of the evidence you cite to back it up?

And THEN go on to defend your dishonesty - and let's be clear here, you were straight up lying earlier when you said you actually had evidence - by saying it's all a big conspiracy perpetrated by politicians to bury evidence that video games are harming kids. Okay.

Let me be more clear - STAY in school. You aren't ready for the big leagues by a long shot.

Yes, i did, i used my schools EEG recorder, which if you read what i posted instead of just jumping to conclusions, would realized i've already stated that.
I used the EEG briefly at school, and at home i use OCZ's NIA.

You can easily argue, tvs and video games make you smarter?
Well most people in my class, don't use tv's or video games "as tools for information" when studying.....you know...because that's not kinder how you get smarter :/.

Yep i knew it, you really are out of material. so now your just trying to insult me.

A 2001 study by Ryuta Kawashima at Tohoku University in Japan claimed to have shown that the frontal lobes are not stimulated during computer game playing. But it was widely dismissed by scientists after he claimed the lack of stimulation could potentially stunt brain development and affect people's ability to control their behaviour. The researcher found no direct evidence for lasting damage.

Can you think for once please?
Scientists absolutely need credibility, and if their peers dismiss them, then it's going to be hard to work and do research.
We haven't found lasting damage....because how many sponsored tests are there?
Scientists would need to run this study for at least year, do you really think the government would fund something like that?

You obviously are incapable of critical thinking, and it seems to me that you are just the sort of person who will easily hop on the band wagon. You offer no reasonable arguement. stay in school? look at yourself for an example of stay in school.

Did i also miss the part where you posted these results, some graphs etc, for us to see? I am sorry, but just going on someone's word on here, is not enough...

You need to stop being insulting mate, and arrogant, for it does not come across well.

I was not suggesting that it makes you smarter if you just used it all the time, and did nothing else. Do not place words in my mouth. I am merely saying that tv is a medium for delivering information.

Ever heard of Sesame Street? I think it will be right up your ally, so watch it sometime, and learn something....
