In my opinion It's not breaking up my friend. Maybe it's losing it's glow because like Phage said, it's setting too soon to be visible. I dunno. ~SheopleNation

The guy has no idea what he's talking about.

1) The ecliptic is not the plane of the solar system.

2) Elenin has been viewable from the northern hemisphere since it was discovered. In fact, the telescope that Leonid Elenin used to discover it is in the northern hemisphere (New Mexico).

3) Elenin was never calculated to cross the ecliptic (ascending node) on September 11. Here is a post on another site, from February, with images showing that the ascending node was shown to occur on the 13-14th of September at that time.

American radio astronomers report that did not detect any water coming from any remains of comet Elenin. Amy Lovell observed it for 7 hours on Sept 7 using the Green Bank Telescope (it is not yet in the Arecibo declination window) and did not detect any OH line above the noise level of 2.4 mJy. This puts a limit of a few times 107 molecules/second on the gas production rate, which is about 100 times less than earlier predictions. This data may confirm disintegration proccess in comet’s nucleus which stareted on mid August. The next radio observations may be carry out on October by Arecibo radio observatory, of course if we will see comet Elenin on images from SOHO spacecraft.

If ELENIN is breaking up why is US Congress on vacation 9/25-10/2; UK Parliament 9/25-10/10; UN 9/23-10/10; everyone in power--government, companies, in Denver Colorado holding the Mountain Guardian Terrorist "practice" drill? Why is the President "visiting" Denver at this time as well? Maybe ELENIN isn't breaking up? Heaven forbid the government would ever tell us a lie....

Just as it causes many comets to become unglued.
