But you don't know that they didn't have to. Maybe they just had to confirm the information the operator was given? I'm not a police officer and I have a hunch that you aren't either, so we really have no idea exactly what information they need for their police reports.

Your analogy is a little off. Say that you just witnessed a car accident, and you call the cops. And then a cop arrives and asks you for an ID. Maybe they need to know who the caller was, maybe they need an eye witness, who knows?

Oh and I was just joking about the nazi thing.
