Nearly 8 in 10 of the members of the U.S. Congress lack an academic background in economics or business.

According to a study by the Employment Policies Institute (EPI), only 8.4 percent have a degree in economics, while 13.7 percent hold a degree in business or accounting.

The most widely held academic background was government and law (34.8 percent) followed by the humanities (20.9 percent). Science and technology accounted for 11.5 percent).

Unbelievable. Eighty percent of congressmen and congresswomen lack business economics academic backgrounds. That is why their incompetence and treachery are responsible for America's political, social and economic ailments.

Ron Paul is a stellar example of congressman, a canary in a coal mine.

A perfect congressman/woman would have at least have a bachelor's degree in business economics, but since the universities are dominated by professors indoctrinated to indoctrinate their students in globalist ideologies, it's a lose-lose.

Really doesn't matter if you packed the place with MBAs, the reality is and for the most part the partisanship bullcrap of politics makes it so most of them are not allowed to have an independent thought other than what the hell kind of dressing to put on their Congressional Kitchen Taxpayer Paid salad each day.

a politician doesn't need a degree in business to be effective but a grounding in real business so they understand the pain of taxes and what people do really want so they can go and change the system with some knowledge of what is actually wrong

According to the Congressional Research Service 170 members of the House and 60 Senators are lawyers.
-from wiki\

as long as the majority of congress have lawyer as their prior profession, we will not see an end to the stupidity. The main job of a lawyer is to be the best arguer, never back down, and stick to your guns til you win. that works great in a court of law, however in congress it is the death knell of the constitution.

as has been proven by our do nothing congress gridlock, being the best arguer, and never backing down from your position serves only one person, the politician.

lawyers arguing economics is truly a frightening thing. where are all the scientists that should be in congress? I agree with the OP, most of congress are unqualified to be where they are. However we only have ourselves to blame. STOP voting for the dolts!!! use your brains not your emotions when voting America. pretty please.

Having a degree in business or economics does nothing but teach you a lot of theory. It's much better to have actual experience, but your attitude is common today in that most people think having some stupid piece of paper with your name on it means that you know something.

It doesn't, especially when most of these people graduated college 30+ years ago.

The point here is you have people in the govt who know nothing about businesses creating laws that affect the actual business world. Reworded so most of the readers here will understand: It's like having your mom come down to the basement and allocate your WoW skill points for you.

I'm surprised 20% have any economics grounding..

Too many are career politicians that have no idea of life in the real world..

Give me a self employed truck driver any day rather than a career politician..

At least he would know how to balance a budget and what effects a family in the REAL world.

Politicians ddont need ANY degree on anything but acting. They do not set the agenda only play their part in the disinfo play for the peasantry. Remember how fast the bailouts passed and how long and ridiculous the debt ceiling bs negotiations were? Deems and repubs are two sides of the same goddamn coin and nothing will get better until we realize that we've been had!

Simple solution, make all congressional elected reps a minimum wage position, with no benefits, let them maintain jobs in the private sector and work on law making only when absolutely necessary.

That is the way it really should be.

Bullseye!

The politicians are not much more than puppet stage actors whose strings are being pulled in a congressional rigged stage show. I believe Congress is nothing but the globalists' rubber stamp parliament.
