It's better I missed this one. I don't know what most of those people stand for. I don't even know what Obama stands for!

I would be surprised if anyone steps forward to challenge Obama. I think other possibilities are much more likely.

Though I was raised a liberal and a Democrat, I would be inclined to vote for Paul if I got a chance just for the message it would send.

Dear SO, I would very much like to disable my U2U inbox, or remove it altogether.
I do not have any interest in the slew of pointless data gathering polls of yours and because of these my inbox had been rendered useless. It is currently filled with nothing but your poll and result announcements. If not these then it is advertisements for staff authored threads. I'm tired of it, tired of the pointless opinionated polling and tired of the self promotional back-patting.

In all honesty, I can't say I'm at all liking the direction that ATS is being dragged down these last couple years. I can't help but feel the owners/staff of the site have long since lost site of what once made ATS a great site. It wasn't a lack of polls, softball ”interviews”, and a podcast turned ”radio show” that's now more about the hosts stroking each others egos while calling forum posters uninformed idiots than it is about discussing the topics of the week.

I've been reading these boards since early 2002 and finally joined up in 2009. No other forum had held me this long. I would hate to leave it, but with the massive drop in quality and care in the last couple years with no sign of things changing any time soon, it may be time for me to go elsewhere.

No doubt, as is the way these days, I'm likely just shouting at a wall. For what it's worth, there it is.

BANKING FIASCO

Clinton signed into law many of the "new improved" Banking Laws that lead to the Economic meltdown:

After the Great Depression, several laws were put in place to prevent another depression. The 1933 and 1934 Security and Exchange laws, The McFadden Act of 1927, The Glass-Steagall Act or Banking Act of 1933. Also the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956.

Clinton signed the following laws Negating the above: Riegle-Neal Interstate Banking and Branching Efficiency Act of 1994 and Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 revoked the above laws that were put in place to PREVENT another Great Depression.

Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Improvement Act of 1991: Allowed big banks to gobble up smaller banks more easily.

Housing and Community Development Act of 1992 and RTC Completion Act - Housing and business loans to minorities.

Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 - left CDSs unregulated and set up AIG bailout and Foreclosuregate. CDSs were UNFUNDED "insurance" placed on mortgages so ANYONE could gamble on whether or not a loan would go into foreclosure.With multiple CDSs on a loan the bank wins BIG if a loan is foreclosed AND the tax payer is the one who PAYS! MASS EXODUS OF JOBS:

Clinton was the President who Ratified the North American Free Trade Agreement and the World Trade Organization Treaties (1995) and then got China admitted to the WTO.(2001) This set up the mass exodus of our jobs and a major trade inblance that drained US dollars out of the country.

Gene Sperling (Clinton's head of the National Economic Council) and William Daley (Clinton's Sec of Commerce) worked on China’s entry into the World Trade Organization, an event which caused millions of manufacturing jobs in U.S. to be permanently lost. Currently General Electric CEO Jeffery Immelt has been tapped to lead a newly created Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. I didn't participate in this poll either, but I just laughed at the other vote being so high, and for, you guessed, Dr. Paul. Haha. We should invent a new party, called something like the Lipubrocrats, just for Ron Paul. As far as Clinton for president, I am not sure at this point how I feel. I would need to do some more digging, but I do not discount her at this point either.

Interesting poll to say the least, but I wish we had more of a breakdown as to demographics, etc, on the people who took the poll. That would give us a better idea as to what these results will mean in the actual primaries imo.

It's an interesting poll, however, as it's very unlikely that the DNC will nominate anyone else but the incumbent, it's assured that Obama will get the nod.

Unfortunately for the GOP/TEA Party, no current candidate stands much of a chance against the President.

Ron Paul seems to be a favorite online and in many circles, however with his history of taking money from white supremacist groups like Stormfront, it's unlikely that he would get the nomination from the GOP.

It's likely that Obama will get a second term afterwards he will be replaced by a GOP contender that will undoubtedly further Prescott Bush's plan for a Fascist Coup in America (which incidentally is the TPM party line) and besides Hillary or Kucinich there are no real strong Democratic leaders.

It's sad times for the United States indeed.

First off (not that I support him) I'm surprised that Matt Damon wasn't included in the others section as there was talk of him running.

Secondly I'm not that surprised that most who voted consider intelligence of a candidate as important. This is true of democrat leaning voters, whereas republican voters tend to believe those who are well educated / too intelligent as elitist and don't trust them as much.

I remember some analyst saying that the average American likes to feel that he is at least as intelligent if not more intelligent than his / her own President, whilst in Europe the opposite is true.

I find it interesting that nearly all the candidates voted for in this straw poll were most rated for their apparent intelligence!! Does that mean that one just has to appear clever to become president?

ETA: If this is the mindset of democrat followers then I am seriously worried about the future of America.
