US actually deporting veterans and people in the military

Because they were illegals... I mean... don't they earn a citizenship when they go into the military? The government is deporting them anyway? They probably think it's cheaper to deport them than to pay them what they are due (veteran benefits)...

The US makes no sense to me sometimes. You're old enough to die for your country but not old enough to drink. Just because you're in the military doesn't mean a damn thing. You're still a second class citizen when you get out.

How did they get into the military in the first place? lol

Doesn't france still have their Foreign Legion? People get an entire new identity after serving in that, it is a great idea, gives people a chance for a new life.

Yes I believe it.

I had a friend at work who came to this country as a baby. He was drafted during Vietnam and told the draft board he was English. The place him in the Army anyway and swore him in as a US citizen.

Twenty years later he wants to go to England to visit and can not get a passport because he is not an American citizen!!!!

Poor guy went round and round and round with the @$$$ in the government. He had the paper showing he was a sworn US citizen but THEY had no record of it so it did not count.

You can join as long as you have permanent resident status. This means that you have a green card and have been here a while. What's more, Executive Order 13269 gives immigrants who join in time of war an expedited path to citizenship.

Serving doesn't automatically grant you citizenship, it does make it easier though.

Yes France still employ the Foreign Legion. They must serve a minimum of 5 years. After that they are given French citizenship and a new identity, should they require one. However, these days, before you can join, you are subjected to an Interpol check.

There is a Legion parachute Regiment stationed in the centre of Toulouse and believe me, I have served 20 years in the British Military and I can say that these guys are hard arsed SOBs.

The way I see it, if you put yourself in harms way for a Nation, that Nation owes you.

But I read a news story saying Obama wasn't deporting the illegals, or is it that he's only deporting the veterans and people in military?

Not that I don't doubt that a veteran really is an American citizen, or at least more so than Obama, let's not forget that at the Arizona illegal checkpoints illegal immigrants actually got jobs there.

In a case by case basis, they would be targeting veterans who have joined the military legally, but committed a crime at some point in their life, either during or after their tour of duty. Just my opinion, but if you committed a crime, even while a legal alien, then that should forfeit your chance to become a citizen, unless exonerated.

I am more and more starting to believe in the author Robert Heinlein (Of Starship Troopers fame) that in order to earn Citizenship and a chance to vote, you must have served in some capacity. And that the Citizenship that you have earned may be taken away for crimes committed.

I know that sounds like I'm a Socialist, though I am not, but we are now seeing what happens when people vote based upon emotion, rather than rationality.

In order to serve in the US military, you have to at least be a lawfully admitted permanent resident (green card holder).

Just like when military members commit crimes and are subjected to the UCMJ, veterans who are not citizens could be subjected to deportation, depending on the conviction.

Whether or not someone served, if you rape a kid, sling dope, knock off a liquor store...noncitizens are looking at criminal law and immigration law to follow.

ALL immigration cases involving vets go up the chain before any action is taken and it's been that way for a long time.
