Now I don't really know if hes a good cop, but it appears that the people in his jurisdiction think he is. A quick google brings up nothing but this report so, with lack of evidence I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

The Sheriff of Turner County is the target of a criminal investigation.

WALB News 10 has learned that Sheriff Roy Wiley is being investigating for possibly removing a large amount of marijuana from his crime evidence room and giving it to a cancer patient.

The GBI confirms the investigation was launched July 8th.

As word of this investigation spreads, Sheriff Wiley, who took office in 2008, is nowhere to be found.

Sheriff Roy Wiley has a lot of friends and supporters in Turner County. "So far he has been a good Sheriff, he has always been good to us," said Rick Mulvey.

"He's a very popular fellow, good guy, good fellow," said John Holland.

"As far as I've been concerned he's been a great sheriff, he's fair and decent to everyone," said Billy Jordan.

If the allegations are true, he will need to face prosecution just like anyone else, but if he is what he seems to be, the people will have a choice in his future. If he does goto trial, perhaps the jury pool can be "tainted" with the concept of Jury Nullification.

when a cop shots an unarmed suspect 47 times in the back because he "mistook" his cell phone for an ar-15, the prosecutors, mayor, city council, chief, cops and judges go on damage control and do everything in their power to acquit they guy.

here you have a case were most likely a few grams of pot was taken to help a guy out who's suffering and battling a vicious disease and he's going to get the book thrown at him.

finally a cop who actually lives by "to serve and protect" and he's being punished for it.

If a person is awake this should say something very loudly about the insane nature of this country concerning the particular ´évidence´ allegedly misappropriated. And the direction of LE in general. Discharging a firearm at one time was almost unheard of and the subject of investigation that was serious enough to really make the officer think about his job future (before Nancy Reaganś escalation of LE interdiction on a plant) since that time there has been steady escalation of military tactics and violent interdiction when dealing with this issue. This is why this sheriff will be tossed under the wheels of justice quickly and with enough coverage in professional journals to send a warning to others who may act like the sheriff and not a shill. The sheriff is the law as the only elected LEO.

What is nice is even if he is convicted, he prob wont get much "punishment" and with the right PR, he can still be re elected and convert a whole county to pushing for the end of the war on drugs. LEAP should get behind him.

Wow, who's does the proofreading for this media source? LOL

What I wonder is, how the heck did anyone even find out that he took the weed in the first place? How would anyone know?

Probably this guy

But the town is now buzzing about a criminal investigation into Wiley's actions. WALB News 10 is told that Sheriff Wiley instructed one of his officers to remove a large amount of marijuana from the criminal evidence room so he could give it to a friend with cancer.

I think juries are the peoples power. No legislation, no judge decree, no executive branch influence can take that power from the people. Juries are the fourth branch of power, the fourth check and balance rarely spoken of by our leaders.

Sheriff has the Constitutional backing to tell the feds to bugger off. If they come try and get him, have them arrested.

As the elected Sherriff of a county, the Sheriff is the highest law enforcement official within a county and has law enforcement powers EXCEEDING that of any other state OR federal official.

Unfortunately very few people understand the power the jury holds over government in a court of law.

Yeah but if they understood it, that means there is no need to fear a police state. Every corrupt police action can be nullified by a jury. If people only understood this we might be in better shape.
