This has all happened before and America experienced Boom periods after it. I don't see this time being any different but time will tell.

I like your upward look. However those good periods in the US were back when big american industry was at home selling to the world and the jobs were here as well. The big boys were eating well and so were we.

But hay they are overseas now with cheep labor. Drive through many american towns and cities even midsized towns that once boasted some sort of industry. What do you find? Old empty plants and factory, rows of empty wearhouses, many empty homes ect. This has been going on slowly, began in the 1970s.

How can a service economy not fall on its face without a production base?

What is your definition of working class?

IMO, working class consists of people who have a job that is sufficient enough to take care of their family without having to rely on government help. Of course, government probably has a different definition.

Are you saying there will no longer be jobs that pay working class wages or something?

Nope, there will still be some just far fewer.

How exactly is the working class going to be wiped out?

I don't think it will be totally wiped out but there will be a big dent. If you don't think high unemployment, foreclosures, bankruptcies, and inability to attain credit isn't hurting the working class, then I don't know what else to say.

So if someone makes 40k a year all of a sudden that job will be gone and they will be poor or rich overnight?

Nope. But I do see severe financial problems. Odds are that this person had a lot of financial obligations when he/she lost that 40,000 dollars a year job.As stated in article, it currently takes the average person at least 40 weeks to find a job and odds are that job will not be paying $40,000.

I don't see the working class going anywhere.

Your probably right. Government will just redefine what makes up the middle class.

Thanks for your post.

How can it be fixed short of Revolution? A good start would be to kick the idea of "Free Trade" to the side and replace it with "Fair Trade".

And this idea might be a good solution among other possible ideas. The problem as I stated is that Congress is very slow at solving problems. They are more concerned about 2012 elections. How does one get Congress to act as a team and pass legislation in the interest of America rather than their party views?

Thanks for your post

Internal demand? Go ask socialist countries to drop the 50% tax rates first so they don't have to depend on exporting to non-socialist countries.

I don't buy the idea that a service economy is sustainable,

I do. And once India get wealthier those IT jobs (which are service jobs) will return, anyway (or not.)

Those laborers are free to return to their rice fields (if they desire to do so.)

As I've said, jobs are created elsewhere from the amount saved avoiding overpriced US shoes (yeah, go buy that and support a handful of employees and lots of robots). The same is true for the car industry. If carmakers don't employ UAW idiots at $55/hour, new cars would be more affordable. Used car prices would drop like a rock making them more affordable to the poor. As additional cars hit the road, more roads would be needed. More carwashes would be built. More mechanics would be hired. But the small minded, non-enterprising, pro-tax, pro-regulation, pro-benefits folks can't see that.

Go to Canada. I can imagine with the population they have, they ought to be looking for workers.
