So today, I talked to a few friends and the topic of Osama bin Laden came up.

Basically, one of them didn't know that Osama bin Laden is "dead."

And you know what else he said? "Wow, I haven't seen anything change."

Now if you think about it, he is right.

Nothing changed.

We're not richer. We're not freer. Nothing changed.

Actually, for a time, everything changed. A lot of Americans had felt better in general thinking that this villain died. And the news stations were focused on him alone rather than things that actually mattered. But now nothing has changed except for people thinking about how bada$$ America is

Of course not, it was never meant to. It was one big Hollywood propaganda show like Bush's Mission Accomplished banner or Obama's Nobel Peace Prize. It was meant to make people feel good, make them feel like we haven't been at war for nearly the last 10 years for no reason, give people a big dose of "America F**k yeah!", and then go back to business as usual.

Didn't expect it to. Osama was a nut and there many more nuts to take his place.

Terrorism will never end. People will always fight for what they believe.

This thread changed nothing.

But, what did you expect? If anything his death has made like-minded individuals even more resolute.

Terrorism Wont End Because the 'Ruling Elite' wont allow it,

What Defines Terrorist Actions?

Would Bombing Civilians be considered 'Terrorist Actions'?

Except dumb people's perception that he did something....

We are literally one of the dumbest nations on the planet.......anybody with common sense can see that...

but we have let our egos get out of control....just realize you aren't that smart...none of us.

Because Osama the man died some time ago on the eleventh of September 2001. That's when the man Osama became the idea Osama. And you can't kill ideas.

So of course nothing changed, the idea that there is an evil man waiting to fly a plane into the closest skyscraper near you because he hates your freedom has been let loose upon the people. Good luck reversing it.

Should be and all people who do this should be held responsible.

What Defines Terrorist Actions?

Unfortunately, there is no one definition. The definition of terrorist actions is constantly changing and it wouldn't surprise me if one day I am considered the terrorist.

Incorrect.
Everytime one Terrorist dies he is turned in to a Martyr and 10 other terrorist are made.
So, NO, the world is not a little safer

The only thing the reported death of Osama changed was now they didn't have to continue putting out b.s. cassette tape recordings of a man said to be Osama.

No body? It didn't happen.

Addition by subtraction?

Doesn't make sense. But if it did, it would throw the idea that muslims are peaceful people out the window.

...osama'll be back (just like those cheesy actors on daytime soap operas) and he'll be easy enough to spot, albeit clean-shaven, wearing a suit and looking rather like michael chertoff...

Anytime the figure head of an organization is executed by an adversary, that organization becomes unstable. A power vacuum is created. Occasionally, there is not a successor with enough experience and credit to take over. Command and control methods must be reconstructed, as well as security measures. Al Qaeda probably lost some morale in this matter.

While the execution of OBL seems futile to many, it was also an excellent demonstration of American capability. Other extremists will recieve the message, and hopefully become tiresome in the face of U.S. perseverence.

But recent drawdown decisions by the U.S. government could counterbalance Al Qaeda's morale. Many extremists will believe that all the work they have done is having an effect, just like OBL's death boosted U.S. morale among troops.

If they have the political will to destroy extremist groups, the U.S. can do it.

They did it to the Japanese Empire. They did it to the Nazis.

I wrote a little thread on the topic of Osama towards the end of all his media attention where I detailed the real issue surrounding Osama's death.

I'm going to have to agree here, I havent noticed a change at all. Like a previous OP said, one bad guy out, always will be another to take his place. Its the way it is. Getting rid of one guy isnt going to make a huge impact in my opinion.
