Ayn Rand Was Right - Wealthy on Strike Against Obama

** That's the title of the article ...not mine.

Ayn Rand was right - wealthy are on strike against Obama

Everything happening today under Obama resembles the storyline of Ayn Rand’s famous book, Atlas Shrugged, one of the most popular books of all time, selling over 7 million copies. Now, under President Obama, Atlas Shrugged has come to life. Rand prophesized a country dominated by socialists, Marxists and statists, where looters, free loaders and poverty promoters live off the productive class. To rationalize the fleecing of innovative business owners and job creators, the looter class demonized the wealthy, just as Obama and his socialist cabal are doing in real life today. ... (snip)

The Census proves that Obama’s tax and spend philosophy is a dismal failure, an economic disaster killing jobs. It is no coincidence that 1.9 million FEWER Americans are working than before Obama’s stimulus. It is no coincidence that jobs are not returning to the private sector. It is no coincidence that tax revenues have dropped dramatically and cannot support Obama’s bloated Big Brother government. The innovators, risk-takers, and wealthy he demonized and punished are on strike.

The high tech revolution has killed the progressive-liberal tax-and-spend dream. Because of the Internet, email, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Satellite TV, I-phones, I-pads, and cell phones, business owners are no longer prisoners of Big Brother. Take a look at states where the latest Census shows Americans moved during the past decade: Nevada, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alaska, Virginia — all low- or no-tax red states, states that lead the USA in economic freedom

Well .. is he right? He's obviously exaggerating the word 'strike'. But the basic idea about excaping high taxes is sound - that corporations and the wealthy are moving and much of it has to do with high taxes. Look at what happened to Boeing recently. They wanted to move for the good of the company, where unions and taxes wouldn't strangle them and so they could stay in business - making a profit like business is supposed to - but the unions went crazy and threatened court action if they moved.

People may be moving to lower tax states when they are elderly to save money, or it could be the weather. It could be a number of things. But I know that as we here are planning our retirement, the tax rates have a significant impact on our decision making.

I don't think the wealthy are on strike ... yet .... but it WILL happen if we continue ont his road.
And we all know how Atlas Shurgged ended. It could easily happen.

When I heard the Boeing story it seemed like something taken straight from the pages of Atlas Shrugged. I don't think the producers and thinkers have gone on mass strike YET (as you said), we still have food on the shelves, new cars being made, doctors providing health care, CEO's still in place (except the ones ousted by the Obama admin a few years back)....but the time is nearing when everyone will want to flee America. If Ayn Rand was correct, idiotic laws will be made trying limiting corporations movement out of the country.

I wish she were still around today to offer her opinion on current events, it would be interesting.

I am not "wealthy" by any means. However, I am following John Gault's lead. Due to the TSA and owebowmao's tax and spend policies I am leaving a high paying/high responsibility/high stress job for my own little business. I will employ only myself and possibly a couple 1099 independent contractors if things grow. I will use every possible method to reduce my taxable income. I will produce just enough to care for my kids and I. I will not support this moochers paradise the socialists are building.

Who Is John Gault??

I am damn it....

But seriously.. Ayn Rand was right on the money. Look around the stonewalling of new tech that could be civilization saving. The bullsh*t political maneuvering, bah!!!! no one listens to us little people. we're not important, we're just little people.

Big fan, FlyersFan, so don't take this the wrong way.
While I agree that businesses are performing a subtle protest, won't this play into the political games? Won't this provide the current administration with MORE ammunition to enact more laws that would impose government onto businesses even further?

Just humbly curious.

I like Atlas Shrugged too. Couldn't stand Fountain Head. But Atlas Shrugged was fantastic.

That's what happened in Atlas Shrugged. I can see it happening in real life too. It certainly could.
That's probably what it'll come down to, don't you think? The looters will dig in deeper because
their free ride is about to leave the station without them. In Atlas Shrugged everything fell apart.
I have no doubt that could easily happen in real life. But the 'threat' of that is no reason to
give in to looters, is it? Gotta' fix the problem ... sometimes that's drastic surgery.

No THAT is talk I like to hear!
starstarstarstarstarstar

People not afraid of what the government "might" do. We've already seen what they will do, and it's just a matter of time before they do more, regardless of what we or business does.

Thank you.

not only are a lot of folks quietly going 'John Gault' but the current administration is working on ways to stop it. Sate Dept has a new form for passports coming out that is next to impossible, there are taxes on taking money out of the country, you have to pay a fee to renounce your citizenship, the US gov thinks you should pay taxes for another 10 years even after you renounce. (and all that was off the top of my head)
Of course the big problem here is that much of the world is looking the same way - where ya gonna run to?

Can't run. It's gotta' get bad enough that everyone wants to fix it. It's gotta' get so bad that the looters have nothing left to loot and they finally 'get it' (or die off from starvation). This is a world wide attack by looters on freedom and on the right to keep what you earn. It hasn't gotten to the breaking point ... yet. It hasn't got to the point where the producers are striking .. yet. But it's coming. It has to. The system can't be sustained the way it is.

High Taxes you say? Taxes are the lowest they've been in years! How can you claim high taxes? Bush lowered taxes when he had a huge surplus left from the Clinton years. And now here we are in debt and no one wants to return the taxes to a reasonable level. They would rather target programs they don't agree with and push party line social issues.

Reagan raised taxes. HW Bush raised taxes. Business seemed to be doing just fine in the Clinton years when taxes were higher than they are now AND the presidency before him and before that guy.

It would seem that you've found some propaganda trying to support big business and social agendas.

Apparently you don't know anything about North Carolina. I just moved from there a couple months ago. Corruption is rampant in government, taxes are outrageous. You get taxed on EVERYTHING! This is not a state you move to for lower taxes. This is a state you move FROM for lower taxes!

The business community seems to have an oddly bifurcated take on him. They sure as heck don't want taxes and regulations increased, but they sure as heck organize and pay for some really high-dollar fundraising dinners for him.
If he isn't there already, his motorcade will be busy inflicting traffic misery on NYC all day today as he hops around the city collecting millions from the wealthy... I doubt he's even casting a glance at the Bronx, Harlem, etc...

The " looting class" nice name to give to about 95% of the population. I do feel sorry for the wealthy though and support their rights to strike . When the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer, it must be worrying times to be a wealthy individual. Didnt the biggest capitalist institutions get bailed out by the "looting class"? I guess it's a question of who's looting who.

There is nothing finer on a nice summer morning than listening to the party of "we are a Christian nation" extol the virtues of being a godless selfish prick. I keep waiting for the irony to kick in but come on guys, this is getting crazy.

Is it really selfish to want to keep what you earn? Or it is selfish to expect others to give you what THEY earn even though you haven't earned it yourself? Is it really selfish to want to make money to support a family? Or is it selfish to expect others to pay for the upkeep on the children you breed? Is it really selfish for a small business owner to be able to work hard and get ahead? Or is it selfish for people to sit back and suck off the taxpayer for their whole life?

'Selfish' ... isn't that you pushing your morals onto others?
Something the left does towards prolifers ...
The left claims prolifers are pushing their morals onto others.
By calling those tired of being looted ... 'selfish' ... then you are pushing your moral judgements on others.
I certainly hope you aren't 'pro choice' ... otherwise that would make you a hypocrite.

Whoever believes Obama is a leftist, let alone a ‘socialist’ or ‘marxist,’ (1) doesn’t have a clue about the meaning of those words and (2) has bought the fabricated narrative of a group of interests that would profit even more if the president was from the other major party.

Obama as president is a centrist, like every other president before him in recent memory, and they are all members of the biggest political party in the United States: the war party.

Presidents will on minor, and some outright inconsequential, issues swing more to the left or to the right, but on the big issues, on the core issues, on the things that make America what it is today, they are all for the same things.

Look at what happened to Boeing recently. They wanted to move for the good of the company, where unions and taxes wouldn't strangle them and so they could stay in business - making a profit like business is supposed to - but the unions went crazy and threatened court action if they moved.
According to Boeing’s Annual Report, the company had $3.3 billion in profit in 2010, up from $1.3 billion in 2009 and $2.6 billion in 2008. It’s incredible how Boeing has been able to survive under Obama’s socialist and marxist reign...

I don’t have a problem with corporations making huge profits. What I have a problem with is corporations having huge profits, putting forward these BS arguments that they can barely operate, and shipping US jobs overseas to third world countries.

For US corporations to want to this now, during this time of crisis, especially for a company like Boeing, that owes most of what it is today to the American tax-payers, for buying their war planes and other military systems for decades, is not to act very patriotically.

Corporations are obviously free to move wherever they want, but they have to deal with people’s reactions and pressure for those decisions and policies. That’s what it means to live in a free society.

Some, however, think a free society means corporations get to do whatever they want in the name of profit, people have to shut up and take it, and the invisible hand of capitalism will fix everything.

For a society to function efficiently there needs to be balance between corporate and public interest. Considering in the United States CEO salaries have increased exponentially while workers have seen minimal raises if any at all, more and more jobs are shipped overseas, and the gap between the rich and poor is growing, it’s ludicrous to suggest it’s the public interest and not corporate that is tipping that balance.

Problem is that every company that downsizes, consolidates or offshores jobs is doing what they can either to survive *or* massively increase their profits.
When a large number of companies do this, regardless of their reasoning, it really hurts our economy.
They are only screwing themselves in the end... all of this re-engineering for increased profitability at the expense of the American workers is lowering aggregate demand for a lot of the products they sell.
Henry Ford did the opposite - increasing his workers' wages, thereby helping to create a class of consumers.

A great example of how empowering the middle and lower classes to buy the things they want feeds the economy the "food" it requires to stay alive. Sadly, almost EVERYONE of that time labeled Henry Ford as a crazy socialist. That is until Ford started reporting record breaking profits. Because not only did he pay his employees more, he offered them great deals on Ford vehicles. Therefore, they all bought his cars with their extra cash. Brilliant, not to mention a Win for business AND a Win for the middle class consumer. You don't see to much of that anymore in todays cut-throat business.

Philippines. You won't be forced to get ObamaCare (new 2014 tax) because there won't be an available plan to enroll in. There are lots of retired military there who the US wants to keep giving free money to because it helps buy friends over there. You could live like a KING over there....in villages with fellow Americans.

There's a REASON so many retired military go over there....they can survive on their tiny military retirement check.

The United States has Compacts with some countries, their people can freely travel to the US...and we can freely travel there....without denouncing your citizenship. You can stay there and won't have to file US Income Tax or denounce your citizenship.

Remember Wesley Snipes not paying his Income Tax? He should have bought a house on Guam. Nobody's ever been audited for their taxes there. He could have put his money in a foreign bank and lived off of dividends/interest....Any foreign income is not taxable on that island either. If you do your research you can find your safe haven out of Tyranny. The rich use the Cayman Islands to hide their money.
