The United States does not claim to be a Christian County. A few crazy folks claim that it is because that is what they want it to be, but it is not nor ever has been. There are a lot of Christians here.

Basically the US includes:
* Christians who feel persecuted by their own government;
* Christians who feel persecuted by the society;
* Christians who feel threatened by any non-Christians;
* And lots of non-Christians who feel threatened by any of the above Christians.

No one sees what is-- they just see their politics. In some cases they are right, but in the US all is stereotypes:
"Christians are ignorant";
"homeless are lazy";
"White are this, blacks are that, Hispanics are whatever, and so on.

We have marginalized everyone who is not an "us" with "if you disagree me, it is because you hate!"-- no longer dialogue-- just denouncement of everyone else as evil, based upon primary ideology.

Wow that was very Gestapo-ish.

Showed up with a wagon and arrested 2-3 people within 2minutes and were gone just like that? Didn't really even say much either...

I suppose America is becoming the 4th Reich after all.

If you judge us by this you are deceived. We give more as individuals to charity than any other people. This is political nonsense that is not representative of Americans. Sad you only see the sensationalized dark side that I'm positive exists in England as well.

Glad to hear the UK is coming our way. Now if we can move back to where we were. The problem here is just like there. People so used to government being mom, dad and babysitter they loose sight of where real help comes from. They don't understand those handouts are to make us slaves.

There are some people who will take advantage of the system. In SD County a few good Samaritans have been sued by homeless and the Homeless won.Can't even give out water bottles in case of poisoning. Food contamination, but according to the good Samaritans they did no such thing to poison them. In a country where everyone has a right to complain and sue about everything we wonder why these silly laws are being enforced. We all want the right to help one another but then again we just love to sue sue sue in order to get our way or for financial gain. It is a ridiculous law but so are most laws and these laws are put forward because of peoples greedy whining me me me ways. So in the end we will all end up suffering and it will only get worse because we like to sue and we want it our way..well your way my way are 2 different things so let us battle it out. Never ever learning compromise.

Those cops all look very well fed and fat. While there arguably (after reading all the comments to date) could be reasons the guv'mt is trying to prevent, I liked the comments about restaurants providing service in their establishments for a nominal fee (like 1c), or churches providing the service inside their establishments. Plus people could get together and provide the food at local food banks. It seems a crying shame that folks would be arrested for such acts of charity.

I vote that businesses stop serving those cops and refuse them food at their establishments. It's a good way to tell them they're not welcome. Let them eat only at the fast food joints and retire early due to health reasons... wait - they already do that based on the visuals there!!

3 more activists arrested for breaking the group feeding ordinance in Orlando. This makes 15 total arrests in the past 2 weeks.

Do you really think the homeless sued themselves? Or do you think that this was an operation: problem/reaction/solution, and the homeless went along on the idea of receiving cash.

By the way, concerned people are going to have to challenge these laws each and every day, and never stop.

Orlando,FL not feeding the homeless is down right wrong to the core. Anyone who signed the deal to jail homeless helpers, deserve to be charged with a crime against humanity. Orlando needs serious mental health help.

Your guess is as good as mine.

This is not a new law. This law has been on the books since 07 and it does not restrict feeding the homeless but what it does not want is you to create a soup kitchen on private property. You cannot have more than 25, including service people, or you can be fined/arrested. This is not about feedind the homeless but protesting. Bottom line. Apply for a permit and you can feed them. twice per year. So, if you have 6 people you can do it once a month. if you had 180 people, by law, you could do it everyday. If you apply there is no legal reason for them to decline it and if they did you would then have an argument and a case.

This is the quote from one arrested...

"Free speech two times a year? That's what the ordinance says," said Brock Monroe, 20, just before police handcuffed him. "I believe in liberty, so I will get arrested if I have to."

If you want to help the homeless, do it in a legal fashion and do not just protest.The legal fees you will spend on fines and bail could feed plenty of homeless you idiots. Use you freakin skull. These guys wanted free publicity and that is it. This is not about not feeding the homeless but making sure it is done in a manner where no one will get hurt also. Liability. What if you start to feed them and run out and they get pissed and attack your feeding area. I am sure they would want the cops there then and would not be so contradictory.

This is indeed a sad story.

However, why do YOU have to bring god damn religion into it.

Can people these days not just focus on the problem without bringing in religion.

This is a story about Humanity or the lack of it nowadays - not some made up crap that the weak believe in. This story is about how good people are being trounced by the system even when helping our fellow man - something religion has NEVER done. Unless your a young boy or women then religion has deeply "touched" you!!

People need to look PAST the obvious. Use common sense and logic in your thinking. Analyze it.

Just like with politicians, you have to follow the money and look at the real movers and shakers who are pulling the strings of the political puppets.

The police are just doing as they are told.

Who is telling them to do that? There is a law against it.

Who made the law? Politicians.

Who tells the politicians what to do and how to think? The money handlers.

Why would the money handlers not want homeless people fed by others who wish to help them because of the goodness of their hearts? The money handlers are in the process of trying to radically change this country into a socialist dictatorship, full of people who are dependent on the government for their livelyhood through government jobs, government unemployment benefits, and government social programs for the elderly, the handicapped, and the homeless.

They want as many people hooked on the government crack as they can get.

Once you are hooked, you will do ANYTHING for a fix.

It's all the store owners and the park goers. That have been complaining about the homeless situation in the park. I think it's a great thing they have been doing, Feeding the homeless. Some of the people, complaining about them, May soon someday find themselves in the others position.

I somehow think their complaints will halt. Some people are just plain rude. I was listening to the radio today, Here in the Orlando area. And even the radio host was saying, "They need to leave". As the other host says, "Where do you want them to go'? He says, "I don't know somewhere else, There's got to be other parks".

What goes around comes around. You never know when you may need the same help. Especially in the world today.

I agree. In highschool I worked for a fast food place that allowed us to take the leftover breakfast food (it wasn't old, they just always made an abundance for the morning rush, and by 10 AM lunch was being served, so there was always at least 40 left over sandwiches and egg platters, etc) to the local shelters for abused women and children.

I thought that was normal, but have since found out that most fast food places trash all the left over food. They consider it stealing if you take what they are about to put in the dumpster. It's ridiculous and a terrible waste.

There is a large group of people who have gotten so sick and tired of this police state nonsense that they actually have moved to New Hampshire and banded together as activists... its called the Free State Project, and I do what I can to help them out with various projects. At this point I think the US is essentially a lost cause... hate to think that but I think it may be true. But if one sliver of what America once was can stand out, I hope the best for that to happen.

So, when something like this happens all I can say is... pack your bags on move to New Hampshire because this kind of thing will become par for the course over the next few years.

Humans are NOT animals. It has been proven that success is the luck of the draw, NOT a function of effort (though effort increases chances somewhat). And... So is failure. How non-compassionate can You be?

I have been reading the ATS forums for several years now, but this story and a few others of late prompted me to create an account and actually post.

On the surface this law does seem draconian, but only in the way it is being presented. The law does not prevent you from helping the homeless, and it does not prevent you from feeding them. It is the manner in which these individuals go about doing it. They did it in this manner specifically to get arrested, to create a controversy, so they could then complain about it. There are many way to feed the homeless in Orlando and not get arrested for it. The main idea here is you are not allowed to just go out on public lands and create a homeless shelter on a whim. If you plan to have a large “Soup kitchen” type of setup you need to go about it in the proper manner. However, if you as an individual drive down to the park and see a homeless person and decide to feed him or her, feel free to take them to a restaurant, or even to your home and feed them, clothe them, give them a bed for the night. None of this will in any way be frowned upon. If your charity does not extend to bringing them into your personal space, you may also take them to one of the many legally setup soup kitchens, or homeless shelters in the city.

This story being presented in this light is only an attempt to incite the masses; there is nothing to be gained from fighting this law. If you want to help the homeless then do so, just do so within the bounds of the law. I know that because I have not jumped on the bandwagon of the “Cop Haters” I will be attacked and ridiculed. All my spelling and punctuation errors will be brought to light in an attempt to discredit me by attacking my “education” etc. But all I can say is if you actually go and research this situation you will see that this is being exaggerated specifically to create hype by these individuals for some other motive.
