Felt that this was worth adding:

Putin Will Not Let Russians Be Poisoned for WTO "Spirit"
June 4, 2011 • 4:40PM

Russia had at first blocked vegetable imports from Spain and Germany in response to the deadly E. coli outbreak centered in Hamburg. Then, when the German government reversed its initial finding that organic Spanish cucumbers had caused the infection, Russia blocked vegetable imports from the entire EU.

The EU protested, and Fernando Valenzuela, its representative in Moscow, said that Russia should reverse the ban to comply with the spirit of WTO rules — this even though Russia's application for WTO membership has not yet been accepted.

Prime Minister Putin responded to the accusation that Russia was violating the spirit of the WTO, by saying on state television, "I openly admit I don't know what spirit [the ban] is contradicting. But when people are dying from eating cucumbers, there is something really fishy going on."

"People really are dying because of eating these products, and we cannot let our people get poisoned for the sake of some kind of spirit," he added.

It's really hard to get Putin to drink the KOOLAID (or bean sprouts for that matter)!

Update: E. Coli Not Found in Initial Testing of Sprouts

BERLIN — German agriculture officials said Monday that 23 of 40 produce samples from a suspected sprout farm failed to identify E. coli contamination, a finding that adds to the confusion over the source of an outbreak that has killed at least 22 people and left more than 600 in intensive care.

Lets be honest about Putin: he is as criminal as it gets. He is, in essence, the "Don" of the KGB-Mafia.

Regardless, in this (and several other) instance, he speaks to bluntly and truthfully that you cannot help but admire him more than our own Western leaders.

LOL, our own Western leaders. Barely shadows of a human, all of them.
