for every pair like your parents there are thousands who dont.

and thats a problem there are over 40 million people on welfare alone and that is a huge problem

if someone were to cut off that government check most would starve to death.

Most folks on welfare, like unemployment, understand that it is a limited term benefit. Many of the people on food stamps and other welfare situations use them as a lifelong manner of receiving income. And that's wrong. Any government service should have a life limiting regulation... e.g. You can get up to 2 years of food stamps, but to continue beyond that you should have a record of reasonable attempts to better your condition without planning to have 12 kids, and all those food stamps coming in unto the next generation.
